lttp on this but I listened to that brockhampton album and get to a line about one of them sucking somebody's dick 💀💀

ballsy to drop that line without fear of consequences to their popularity.

It's a pretty good album. You can hear a lot of pharell influence in the production which is dope but one of the member's delivery has gotta skew a bit further away from this Tyler the creator style of flow he has going on right now. Looking forward to that next album

Finally got into Low end theory. Some might say Digable planets are harder to get into but that's how I ended up breaking into this type of hip hop.

Also lttp: Met Gala is ridiculous.

Hot takes:

Amine's Good For You

I have no idea why anyone compared this to Chance, sounds nothing like Chance. It's a funky, poppy project front to back though and I like it off the strength of that alone. There's so many vocal effects (AYE!) on here that I wouldn't have known Nelly was on Yellow just by listen to it. Feel like this is one of those albums you can throw on shuffle and it'll be great for background music, the production is stellar and has got that bounce all over. There's not really much in it for me to latch onto lyrically or even in the sense of that one *really* dope song that I feel every great project needs, and I think it's a wee bit front-loaded, but Veggies, Yellow, and Heebiejeebies are probably my standouts.

Gucci Mane's Droptopwop

No way around it, this is one of the most solid projects all year, y'all weren't lying. It's actually a really good blueprint for how trap rappers should approach their albums. Only 10 tracks, sticking to a few producers and just cranking out their best. Although I don't know if every artist can do that, but Metro laced this and Gucci didn't miss a beat. 5 Million, Tho, Helpless, Met Gala, Finesse The Plug Interlude, Dance with the Devil, Bucket List. I damn near named the entire album as my standouts, the only song I'm iffy on is probably Loss 4 Wrdz with Ross, but everything else is solid. The Helpless to Dance with the Devil stretch is crazy, and Helpless is probably my favourite song overall.

Meek Mill's Wins and Losses

I think I'm coming to the realization that I can't take a full album of Meek's delivery/voice. Maybe it's just how loud he is or how loud he's mixed, but hearing him talk about a variety of different topics in the same intonation kind of makes them all sterile. And even though I praised Dreams & Nightmares, this project is ultimately a lot like it, and in retrospect not really that great overall despite having heat and dope songs sprinkled throughout. He delivers with the Intro, but there's also We Ball with Thug, These Scars with Future/Guordan Banks, Glow Up, and Young Black America. There's something really lazy about the samples on this project. It doesn't appear to be credited that way, but it REALLY sounds like a Kavinsky sample, Whatever You Need isn't really an interesting interpolation, and Young Black America is a near straight rip (despite being dope). Even Connect The Dots sounds like a beat I can't put my finger on ATM. Issue's autotune is really off-putting, feel like he should've gotten Ty Dolla $ign for that. It's an overall okay-to-ehh project with some heat on there, but I don't think much of that will stand the test of time. And that kind of makes it bad to me. Listen to the Intro and you're basically good.

Tee Grizzley's My Moment

IMO nothing on this project (or other loosies I've listened to..) match the veracity and sheer bars of First Day Out or No Effort, but this was a decent mixtape and dude is spitting on a number of these songs. It's a bit formulaic when it comes to a lot of the songs, and the topics are pretty much the same robbery story told in 4 different songs, but some of the downtempo songs are okay (some more cringy than others), and there are enough tough verses and hard or moving beats sprinkled throughout. Standouts are First Day Out, No Effort, Country, How Many, Secrets, and 10K.

Ugly God's The Booty Tape

Whoever (Des?) said this was like a Lil B project in 2017 with trappier production was on the money. It's so stupid and silly, but it's either so out there or not out there enough that it doesn't have the same charm as a Lil B project would. It's just a short, fun listen. The project is hilarious to just think about in it's entirety, and most of the songs have me rolling with how ridiculous they are, Stop Smoking Black & Milds especially. I don't think I'll be listening to this much, but it was memorable and stands out and that counts for a lot. I guess I'm Tryna Fuck and L.D.C. are my standouts. Thanks, Ugly God.
