Ten being the highest-selling grunge album of all time tends to say otherwise, besides it looks like it's gonna be more like ACDC and less like Beatles so it's not a gigantic venture.
The Backstreet Boys first album sold over 28 million copies. Obviously they are an amazing band.

Obviously they are to those 28 million people that bought it. :D

They're garbage and those 28m people who bought it have garbage music taste. Sales don't make a band/pop group good.

That is pretty silly. Pearl Jam was by far the most successful band to come out of the 'grunge' scene in Seattle. From '95 to '05, they were probably one of the most prolific 'rock bands' in the world. Ten has sold 13m, VS 7m, 5m.

I was speaking critically, they were definitely the most accessible band of that scene, but in general I was of course being facetious. They're a fine band.

I don't understand how in 2009 this is somehow considered a relevant or witty rebuttal by anyone.

Hey, at least PJ is an actual real band, unlike the the "artists" Activision has managed to license.

I have a grounded dislike towards GH, but calling Metallica and Aerosmith not real bands is just wrong.

OT:
I knew it would come to this. The general public isn't aware of DLC, and you've got to keep your brand in the market. Even though the DLC-support for Rock Band outclasses that of GH by miles, the general public wil go for disc-based content, even if that means you get a butload of songs you don't like. I just hope the songs on the Beatles- and Pearl Jam-tracks are exportable.

Do you see how a consumer might feel like they're getting milked a bit harder by one than the other? Both in terms of cost and in terms of convenience? Just above me, xbhaskarx summarizes it very concisely; it feels less like milking, or milking feel less frustrating when the "different package" is more pro-consumer.

...look, I'm not saying disc exports aren't a nice thing, but the idea that something isn't "milking" because it offers you a preferable distribution method makes no sense. By definition the (stupid) phrase means attempting to make as much money as possible out of a game/franchise. DLC isn't exempt from that just because it has a high convenience factor. I of all people obviously have no issues with weekly DLC or disc releases (I love both), but both are just methods of milking more money from customers. You can't attack the idea of offering more discs of music (especially considering most people aren't online and so can't even get DLC) and then say it's great that 60 DLC songs cost you $120.

this thread is fucking stupid. You don't have to buy this one. This game is one for the Pearl Jam fans, see the voting. It's pretty damn easy, if you don't like Pearl Jam don't buy it, if you like them enjoy the fuck out of it and that's what I'm gonna do. It's not like they need this game to sell millions to make profit. The game engine is done, they just need to make the charts...

And well, milking... do you guys see bands selling live DVDs as milking? There sure is no need to buy live gigs as you already have the CDs. But some people do, it's the same thing as RB:pearl Jam. It's another way to appreciate the music. And I would welcome such a band edition for every major band.

Strap on your hooker ...
I got Rock Band AC/DC (and a DVD and T-shirt) for $15, whereas the equivalent DLC would have cost $25+. I bought GH Aerosmith for $10, the equivalent DLC for that would have been, Jesus, over $80?

If you like music game content and you can be a little patient, you should fucking love disc-based expansions. DLC rarely gets price drops and any they do will never, ever be as signifigant.

I'm still waiting on Rock Band: Radiohead, but we'll probably be get Rock Band: RHCP, Rock Band: Bush, and Rock Band: Nirvana - Drop D Training before that ever comes out.

Agreed. My local EB was selling brand new, with the code intact, AC/DC Rockbands for $10. I'm so glad I held back on that purchase, and I'm doing the same for GH:Metallica even though that game was made for me.
