That's pretty big news. Her shows aren't in my TV wheelhouse, but it's no denying the popularity and impact they have. Grey's Anatomy has been on forever and is still producing good numbers for ABC.
Shonda Rhimes Moves to Netflix From ABC With Huge Overall Deal
Whoa. Netflix is getting so aggressive snatching away talent.
ABC will still have Grey's, HTGAWM, and one more season of Scandal, plus the forthcoming For the People and Grey's spinoff, but all future Shondaland shows will be on Netflix for as long as this new deal lasts. This is a pretty big blow to ABC, even if Shonda herself hasn't given them a new hit in ages.
It'll be interesting to see what Shonda will do once unshackled from the confines of broadcast TV - she's always tried to push the envelope and now the sky's the limit.
She could make that parody show that was on Dear White People.
lol really? Never seen it.I don't know how much you know about Scandal, but...it's pretty much already that parody show from Dear White People.
Same with the 60s, like for example with the Andy Griffith Show, they use the season four finale as a backdoor pilot for Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. Jim Neighbors leaves for and is replaced by his cousin on TAGS and is never heard from or about in Mayberry again from what I've seen.lol really? Never seen it.

Wow, spinoffs in the 70s really didn't give a fuck. There was no goodbye on the main show... the character just disappears and appears on her own show and neither mentions the other. It makes me wonder what you would think if you watched the show in syndication and had no idea there was a spinoff. lol
Disney shouldn't have fucked with the movie rights... (yes, I know this is unrelated, but let me have my fictional corporate GoT drama)

also:
ABC in panic mode. Her shows are what's keeping their schedule together, scary to think what will happen when they'll all eventually end.
She has failed to launch new shows for them though since How To Get Away with Murder, and even that one has fairly cratered.
She's the only one who is keeping ABC relevant. lolI dont know who Shonda Rhimes is

I still dont know who Shonda Rhimes is
It's weird because watching MASH, they give goodbyes to several characters (even if they don't technically spinoff into anything). It's weird just seeing a main character completely disappear without being mentioned.Same with the 60s, like for example with the Andy Griffith Show, they use the season four finale as a backdoor pilot for Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. season 4 is the best one.I was told Dexter didnt start getting terrible until season 5... season 3 is fucking abysmal. I feel cheated.
Yes, a DA catches you killing someone and becomes best buddy with you, that mkes sense. Not to mention Dexter, master serial killer, hears a door close next door after a kill, and casually walks out of the kill room in plain sight of whoever was out there.
I feel i'm being Bucked sooner than I expected :/
Not always, Mary Tyler Moore for example did crossovers with both Rhoda and Phyllis and the characters weren't forgotten on the main show either, they both appeared in the series finale. Charlotte Ray showed up in Diff'rent Strokes after she left for Facts of Life, Dallas and Knots Landing crossed over several times etc., it didn't happen as frequently as it does today but that's not a bad thing, the big DC crossovers on the CW are really annoying for example because it makes you feel you can't just watch one show.Wow, spinoffs in the 70s really didn't give a fuck. Didn't I read that Knots Landing did a bunch of storylines about Bobby's death after Dallas killed him off, then got super pissed when they were left holding the bag when Dallas made the whole thing a dream and refused to crossover ever again? Not always, Mary Tyler Moore for example did crossovers with both Rhoda and Phyllis and the characters weren't forgotten on the main show either, they both appeared in the series finale. I'm honestly surprised they're not filming seasons 2 and 3 back to back for this reason.

It feels weird to be in a TV ratings/cancellation thread and not know who Shonda is, but I guess not everyone follows the creatives as much.
But yeah big get for Netflix. Curious to see what happens when she writes for binge-viewing and not weekly OMG moments.
Does she even write anymore? She seems high enough up the ladder (at the top of it) that it's more likely she spins some ideas out to a team of writers and they take it from there and slap her name on it, executive producer style.

But that's the problem, we don't WANT to see the kids aging. They're hitting those awkward years.S1 and S2 (and presumably S3, S4, and however many they end up doing) were set AND shot a year apart (S1 - set in 1983, shot in late 2015-early 2016, aired summer 2016, S2 - set in 1984, shot in late 2016-early 2017, airs fall 2017), so this isn't really a problem. The kids are aging at the same rate as their characters. I would assume that S3 will be set in 1985 and shot late 2017-early 2018, and air fall 2018 or winter 2019.

Shondaland has kinda been the face of the network for the past couple years. I remember seeing those TGIT promos constantly. I think the writing style she's been leaning towards with Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder will play really well with the binge crowd. Lots of twists and turns, very pulpy.
Yes and no
Most of her shows seem super catered to that week long build. People discuss the episode, theories, what's gonna happen next then throw a big ole twist in the middle so that winter break has everyone buzzing
Yes but that was several years into the show, Bobby remained dead on Knots Landing. Gary and Val did appear in the Dallas finale though.Didn't I read that Knots Landing did a bunch of storylines about Bobby's death after Dallas killed him off, then got super pissed when they were left holding the bag when Dallas made the whole thing a dream and refused to crossover ever again?
I'm actually watching Mary Tyler Moore and in season 5, Rhoda is just gone and there's no real in universe explanation or goodbye. Which is weird because in Season 3 they had this episode where it looked like she was going to leave for NYC and I thought THAT was going to be the spinoff backdoor episode. I think Mary showed up on the other shows, but not vice versa? Not always, Mary Tyler Moore for example did crossovers with both Rhoda and Phyllis and the characters weren't forgotten on the main show either, they both appeared in the series finale. Oh. Yeah, there's no goodbye episode but no Rhoda does return to MTM but not often, I think two or three times? Mary appeared more often on Rhoda.I'm actually watching Mary Tyler Moore and in season 5, Rhoda is just gone and there's no real in universe explanation or goodbye. The Office, Two and a Half Men and Scrubs are the most recent sitcoms that had major cast departures I think.I'm trying to think of the last major cast departure from a sitcom I watched and the only one I can come up with is Coach from New Girl, and they eventually gave him a decent goodbye after the second or third time he left the show. But I guess that's the other thing, modern TV doesn't really break up a good cast just for the sake of trying to fill more air time. Even something like NCIS, which has had three (attempted) spinoffs, didn't poach a character from the main show to launch the new show.

Written by Lorre, The Kominsky Method centers on Sandy Kominsky (Douglas), an actor who years ago had a brief fling with success and is now a revered Hollywood acting coach. Arkin plays his long-suffering agent and friend, Norman.
Agreed. S3 sucked major assDexter season 3 is TRASH.
Holy shit.
I actually cant fathom what the mythic later season will be to be quite frank.

I wonder if this will finally have mainstream audiences discussing netflix original shows offline.
I never watched her shows just the failures from people who worked with her
I can't find that Dexter gif where he's tracking the guy and is clearly seen through the window. Only pictures of it. But yeah, it gets better before it gets way worse.
