New previews of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

I really would love for them to expand this concept for the sequel into Mario + Rabbids + Legend of Zelda.

But probably at that point it should probably be Mario + Rabbids: Multiverse

It's a Tuesday release and also a Bank Holiday this coming Monday over here in the UK. Online retailers shipped them early to make sure they arrived on time.

It wasn't just this, Yakuza and Everybody's Golf also got shipped early by many retailers.

It’s annoying seeing amazon shipping early to some but not others. Are you early amazon people prime members? I wonder if they’re shipping earlier to non-prime to try and get them there for release day and stupidly that ends up screwing prime customers (mine yet to dispatch)

I ordered mine from Shopto and Simply Games ( doubled up in hopes of getting one early ) and both arrived on Saturday. I'm not sure about those with Amazon orders.

Just defeated the second boss. Man, that was a tough fight. It took me many retries but I finally scraped through. Phew!

Finished the first world. I'm not much of a TRPG fan, and less so Rabbids, but there's enough depth and character here to keep me enjoying it and wanting more. The boss fight was really great too, hopefully going forward there are more creative battles like this. That easy mode option before battles is a real help at times too.

Sounds like the game is actually challenging! That's great because my worry was it being faceroll easy.

I wouldn't say it was overly challenging, people expecting this to be similar to Xcom in terms of difficulty need to lower their expectations, but I am only on world 2 of 4, I'm not expecting worlds 3 and 4 to be a walk in the park.

That doesn't say much though because X-COM is masochistically hard

Jesus I can't believe I've been playing this for what, 7 hours, and it's only just clicked that I can swap out a nearly dead team member, to somebody who has full health before the second fight in a chapter.

*slaps forehead*

I just spent ages starting a fight with Luigi only on 10 health, when I could have swapped him out for Rabbid Luigi instead.

Preorder locked and loaded. Release day delivery.

Half as hard as XCOM is probably still too hard.

I want a challenge but I don't mind at all if this is significantly easier. It wouldn't really be accessible otherwise.

we are around 27 hours until review. Is it wiser to just wait for reviews at this point before pre-ordering? (That will result in a 2-3 days of shipment delay for me)

If you think the reviews will arrive before they charge you, then pre-order if you'd like. Otherwise just wait if you're that worried.

Just can't get behind buying physical copies for something portable like the switch. I hate it.

Im just curious if anyone knows how complicated the game gets? A little worried it's made for 3+ genre and is just incredibly easy until the last mission or so which requires some sort of thought process or kill X before Y for this reason etc.

I wouldn't say it was incredibly easy whatsoever, you definitely need to put some thought into your positioning and tactics etc

However, there is an easy mode that can easily be switched on before you start every fight if you're worried about it being too complicated for younger folk.

It ramps up the difficulty slowly but it's certainly not a breeze by any means. I actually suspect that by the end of world 1 it'll be a little too difficult for young kids and they'll be resorting to the easy mode quite a bit.

It certainly has that classic XCom/Valkyria Chronicles thing where you get complacent, don't pay proper attention and then get hit three times in a row by different enemies. It's definitely way more forgiving than XCom but it was never going to be as hard as that game, that's one of the most unforgiving games I've ever played.

As an aside I don't know how people finished World 1 in two hours. I reckon it must have taken me at least double that.

Sounds reasonable. Im glad that it seems to have a good chunk of play time to beat the game. I get that it was never going to be on the same level as x-com, and as someone who didn't particularly enjoy X-com because of its unforgivingness, i think this will be more up my street.

For those who have played it how difficult do you think this will be for younger kids. I play games alot with my girlfriend's brother and the youngest loves Mario and Rabbids. He's pretty good with platformers but hasn't really dipped his toe into rpgs other than watching others play the Mario rpgs.

So how difficult do you think the game would be for a five year old?

Honestly? I think it will be very difficult for a five year old. I haven't activated easy mode in the game but the standard settings will probably be far too much for a young kid to handle. Despite its colourful looks, the game requires a lot of strategy at times.

I'm a Yakuza fanboy and because this came first by an hour, I've not even booted Kiwami yet. This is goddamn addictive.

This game is dangerously addictive. I just found the secret area in world 1, but now I have to go out for the rest of the day 😭😭

In my honest opinion a five year old would struggle with this, and probably just the genre in general. Success or failure depends on the positioning of your characters relative to both each other (healing, team jumps, boosting each other's power), relative to your enemies (Do you have a clear shot? Are you in cover?) and relative to your environment (being above enemies boosts your attack power. Could you use those warp pipes to your advantage? Could your enemies use those warp pipes to THEIR advantage?)

There's just a lot going on and that's without getting into power cooldowns and skill trees and movement grids. I'd be interested to hear how much easier easy mode makes the game but I suspect that, at its core, there's just too many levels of mechanics for a kid at that age to deal with regardless of how many HP the enemy knock off on easy mode.

Easy mode restores your characters health and gives them 50% more health too. I've definitely died while using it, but it feels, up to the end of world 1 anyway, that it would take a lot to get your entire party wiped out or whatever.

The best looking Mario game?

I also think a 5 year old would struggle with some of the traversal puzzles, especially in world 2 with all the block sliding you have to do.

I think Splatoon would be a even better fit. Not only in terms of gameplay, but the quirkness of the inklings and the sillines of the rabbids could mesh really well.

Sorry but no.

Inklings need to have a crossover with 90s Nickelodeon and/or Cartoon Network before Rabbids ever get a chance.
