As weird as it sounds I think RG is walls/defenders.

Oh that's right I recall seeing a Vent Sentinel and a Wall of Roots. I'd like to see a few more defenders in Green to confirm but by process of elimination and given Vent Sentinel is in the format, you're probably right

Overgrown Battlement would be the clincher

Could also be walls to ramp into X spells. Rosheen Meanderer was spoiled, so was fireball.

It's a defender deck but you can exploit some good top end

I haven't seen Rosheen but I'll take your word for it and it makes sense

Saungine Bond down to Uncommon

Damn, they're printing the shit out of that card just when it was starting to gain some momentum. Probably a good idea before Commander demand puts it out of range for non-pack oriented supplemental product.

Swiftspear down to common?

Also, with Pillar of Flame, we might not be getting Bolt in this set. Got to save something for Magic 25?

Also, I see mothafucking EARTH ELEMENTAL in that pile, hopefully with old art!

That would be really weird. How can you have a set named ICONIC MASTERS and not having freakin' lightning bolt?

Or Llanowar Elves/Swords to Plowshares/Counterspell.

I'm pleased, though, that Iconic Masters was more of a branding/marketing thing than a design/development philosophy.

As someone who actively played competitively during the Mercadian Masques era, the idea of anyone being excited by Rishadan Port is still triggering PTSD flashbacks. Truly one of the worst eras of magic, ever.

Genesis Wave, Rune-scarred Demon...

Didn't even see those!

It also looks like they're not concerned about printing small numbers of keyworded cards (like Ancestral Visions and Flusterstorm.) I remember this being their reasoning for keeping Noble Hierarch out of one of the recent MM sets (not wanting to have a single Exalted creature in a set.)

I thought they excluded Noble Heirach from a Core Set because Exalted was in W/B and not Green in the set? Which of us is remembering this correctly?

So Sanguine Bond and Bladewing the Risen were both downshifted to Uncommon. Are there any other reprints from C17 that were downshifted and printed yet again?

From Sam Stoddard:

One of our rules is that we want to have at least three cards with a mechanic before we put them in a Masters set. Noble Hierarch has exalted, and because we just printed that in Modern Masters 2015, we avoided that mechanic and went with other cards. Some of the reason for it not appearing in this set is that exalted didn't make a lot of sense in the set as a mechanic because it doesn't line up very well with any of the other mechanics in the set. I assume if we end up putting infect in a Masters set, exalted will be a really good mechanic to overlap with it.

It appears that they've changed their tune on this. Unless I'm just not seeing the other Storm and Suspend cards in IM.

More on rules change

I think he was confused by the first question

What happens if you lightning bolt a mutavault while it's a land? If it animates, is it destroyed due to lethal damage?

You won't be able to Bolt a land. "Any target" will mean "creature, player, or planeswalker" under the hood.

Is there a rule to prevent you from targeting your own Planeswalker? These are functionally different cards under the current rules

In the proposed future you will be able to Bolt your own 'Walker. Big rules changes often subtly alter card functionality.

Seems like they are removing the Planeswalker redirect rule

You must have missed this in the flood of IM cards but yes, they said they are getting rid of it but its going to take a lot of errata.

@mtgaaron
Good eye! We are looking at removing the "planeswalker redirection rule" at some point in the near future. Will require a chunk of errata.
