Axios: Adviser says it's finally dawned on Trump: "People really fucking hate me."

Wouldn't be surprised if this is true and Trump tries to operate as Reagan for a few months, until he sees his approval numbers still stuck. Democratic voters will still hate him and most independents will still think he's nuts, all while losing some favor with his own party. But the media will fawn over this fabled pivot for a while, and that's what he likes.

Honestly, it's like dealing with a fucking toddler.

Also I think people are underestimating if Turmp and Dems pass something really popular, Trumps gonna see the approval jump slight (maybe 3-5%) and hes gonna go through the roof.

Those would be the centrist/mods that voted trump but got turned off from the shittyboy policy

He is what he is and if praise is what he wants then I don't think...nay I know he doesn't have it in him to turn it around and continuously do the ish it takes to make things better and not worse. Dude just pardoned a damn criminal.

Another pivot? Another he became president?

Trump is trash, he will go down in history as the worst president as even known in my timeline and history will not be kind to him or his family for decades to come.

he never was a dyed in the wool republican. i want to send him packing asap but i could see him turning heel... democrat policies are popular, they're just "sold" horribly

I don't believe Trump has the parts in his brain to realize that. At most he's noticed the difference in coverage between when he works with Dems and when he potentially ruins the lives of almost a million people.

I find most of these Axios inside baseball articles a bit suspect...
Yup. Don't they get invited to special events for the white house a lot too?

I don't think he's going to change. He'll go back to his mean and racist tendencies at some point.

That said, I'll take what I can get. If he does some good or alters his ways ... great. But I still don't approve and I still think Mueller is going to get him.

Trump is a being ruled by ego, not any moral conviction, so he can be pulled this way or that, but ultimately the sheer force of his ego will see him continue to be a force for evil.

I actually think he can be manipulated into something good if the cards are played correctly. If he's really reveling in this positive coverage from striking a deal with "Chuck and Nancy," then there's a clear incentive for him to continue doing such things as it appeals to his ego. Shit, you could probably make the case to him that, instead of reversing everything Obama did, he should do it "better" and show him how it was really done.

But he'll probably fuck everything up anyway.

I don't think it's an accident that Politico actually started putting out decent content around the time Axios got created.

Ha. That's a bit harsh (on Politico), but Mike Allen is definitely trash and purveyor of the worst kind of journalism.

Oh c'mon man. Doesn't this face scream bleeding heart liberal to you?

He can please the kids and New Yorkers. With the banishment of Bannon and his allies, Trump is left with a largely moderate to Democratic staff.

Stephen Miller is still on his staff, no?

The only thing I'm taking from this is that now it's the Democrats turn to manipulate the man-child. Trump will always be the human equivalent to the Golgotha shit monster but we might be able to use him for our own purposes. Of course, I thought this was possible before and he tried to pass horrible legislation.

Just because he's lashing out at his allies, doesn't mean he's changed his views suddenly. Trump gives a fuck about no one but his own ass.

If the Dems can use his stupidity and temper-tantrums to get some substantial legislating done, that says more about the Dems than it does him.

Everyone who has ever read a post from me in regards to Trump knows how I feel about him but the term "low energy" never ceases to make me chuckle.

More of the same bullshit. There will never be a pivot. He is who we think he is.

Trump is constantly pivoting though, seemingly based on who he talked to last and because the most important thing to Trump isn't policy, but how popular he thinks he is.

Don't think this will stick though, stuff like the the Russian investigation and the media still criticising him, will end up making him so mad he has zero friends left when all is said and done.

He'll do anything to save the rich money and he doesn't give a shit about protecting those that aren't rich. Sounds pretty republican to me.

I hate him beyond anything. If he got rid of Miller and somehow magically passed single payer, I'd still hate him with a passion.

I will laugh milk out of my nose if he tries to switch sides and remains a lame duck and just before he’s about to finally get the tiniest piece of positive legislation done mueller sends him to jail.

Trump is a horrifying and disgusting individual, but if he can be manipulated we may as well manipulate him to at least accomplish something good. It will elicit no praise from me for Trump, but for whoever pulls his strings.

I started off as a PolySci major in '02. Politico was navel-gazing dogcrap then and has been for eons.

Pretty sure Trump will choose whatever benefits Trump. Any politician dumb enough to fall for his predictable routine frankly deserves being swindled.

Yep. He himself will never deserve praise. This isn't about coming around on Trump, it's about taking advantage of him

This friggin' Axios article trying to cast Cohn, Kushner, and Miller as "moderate to Democratic."

Have to watch for these stealth Kushner puff pieces.

I'm not sure Trump is self-aware enough to invoke this deliberately. The stupider explanation, that he's doing this just to spite GOP leadership, seems like the more likely one. He's mad that they haven't done a damn thing in the last 7+ months and wants them to know it.

He makes on deal over the debt ceiling, something which he hates himself since he's not a small gov conservative, and suddenly he's mr. pivot?

My father had narcissistic personality disorder, and he disappointed us every time he swore he had turned over a new leaf. Trump will be no different.

I will always hate Trump but a crazy left wing pivot would be amazing to see.

I don't think it will happen.

Let's see Trump do some liberal stuff via executive orders before we get excited. And even if you buy that Trump were to become a liberal ally, McConnell and Ryan still aren't going to let anything remotely near liberal legislation make it to a vote.

BREAKING: Advisers confirm president is a complete moron, easily duped by other people. More at 11.

How people can read this and feel better is beyond me.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
I think it's plainly obvious that the only thing Dumbass Don has ever cared about is the approval of others. If that means we can manipulate him into pushing progressive policies then sure lets go for it. But it's dangerous to think he's 'on our side' he's only ever been and will continue to be only in it for himself and his need of approval no matter where it comes from.
