Max had a similar gaff and didn't recognize the mistake until much later. Though to his credit he really went out of his way to apologize and even gave a donation to a charity I believe. Wonder how peddle replies to this if at all.

Max's situation really was not like this, which is why PDP's response won't be like Max's either.

They'll fence sit, middleground or ignore until it goes away. This is basically hardwired into them now when YT shit his the fan.

Well, advertisers are already dropping out of YouTube or paying less for ads. This will hit YT stars pocket books. In this case, more YT personalities are likely stop fencesitting especially the ones who were hurt by PDP antics already.

"I'm proud to announce a donation....

...to the Ku Klux Klan organization! Woo hoo. Go me!"

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. How is saying "fucking n****r" not racist because it was said in a gaming context. I am incapabake of understanding this argument.

"So yeah I stabbed my roommate but it's not murder because I did it in a gaming context"

Who cares

Meh, Hulk Hogan said it and it didn't bother most of GAF.

There's a defense force for everything lmao

Some idiot says something stupid online.

Outrage ensues.

Rinse and repeat.

Boring.

I'm seeing this type of post a lot is this the new stealth defense now🤔

why are people so scared and offended by a simple word ?

A simple word to you because you don't what feels like to be black fuck off

Max's gaffe seems way different, Max didn't use it as an insult, it just came out in a word jumble. And his apology was genuine. Whereas Felix used it directly as an insult.

If you don't think he's a bad person or a racist then it makes little sense to bring him up in a thread about a bad person being racist. Not much more to say really.

because (white) game streamers using these words "in a fit of anger" is still problematic regardless of the context they used them in, and it should not be a trend regardless

He said it because someone shot at him, apparently it was not a joke. I'm not sure he can get his way out of this, but I have a feeling a Youtuber with a huge fanbase can find a way.
Which makes it worse. If it were a joke, there could be some very weak rationalizing for it being dark humor, or whatever. But when it's blurted out in frustration, you know we're getting a glimpse at the real person.

Because when you can't see the person and they aren't in the same room it's acceptable I guess?

Pop culture. Sure. Kids grow up listening to American rap without understanding shit, they only really interiorize that you need to drop "nigger" and "fuck" every two words to be cool. They believe it's just slang. If they saw a black American they'd try to approach him using "nigger" thinking they're just being friendly. People use "nigger" trying to immitate what they listen to in music and watch on TV.

We don't study American history at school more than we do Chinese or Russian. Heck, most people struggle trying to remember anything at all about our own. And no swear word will ever have the same impact when it doesn't belong to your own language. More than that, most people will struggle to understand just how loaded just one word can be.

To put it another way, your average European racist isn't as knowledgeable as to go straight to "nigger" when trying to think of a racist slur in English.

These are just the facts, and I know they may be shocking, but don't shoot the messenger. It's just how it is. Not defending anything.

"Not defending anything"

You're literally making up excuses for people that didn't ask you to. I've never come across someone accidentally saying it or assuming I'm a rapper so it's cool to say it to me.

That's happened zero times.

Massive difference between someone reciting song lyrics and what you're claiming.

I hope so. It's just kind of bullshit if their wallets being hit is the reason they call out PewDiePie and not his numerous behaviours that make him a Shithead or the racism.

Yeah, Max as a streamer pretty much just reads whatever is in front of him. He knew immediately he fucked up, and made efforts to apologize and atone for it very quickly.

Because the people defending him are actually defending their right to use it without being judged a racist. All of them are most definitely racists.

Max also hadn't had a history of problematic behavior up to and including dressing as an actual fucking nazi, either.

Based on what I already knew about PewDiePie, can't say I was surprised when I read the thread title. Not even a little bit.
Yeah... the fuck happened? Why are people on the internet that like games so angry?
I would say it's the result of those people being entirely too invested in games, with not much of anything else going on in their lives.

People do realize that not everyone who watches gaming streams on the internet is white, right?

PDP is a piece of shit, has always been a piece of shit. This is just confirmation. The dude is a racist piece of shit.

I don't know why anyone expected anything else from someone who rose to stardom on YouTube screaming "I just raped you" at people while playing video games. The guy needs to be done. He shouldn't be allowed to recover from this.

People are upset at Daniel whatshisface for talking about the money aspec, but it does really frustrate me that great channels run by awesome, progressive people that I adore are the guys hit hardest by PDP's stupid, racist, sexist toxicity.

This was no gaffe. It was not a slip up. It was not unintentional except for the fact that he had an audience.

Yeah, initially I was giving Pewdiepie the benefit of the doubt, but that time has passed. A lot of prominent youtubers behave like petulant children from a racist family and it is beyond sad that one of it's main figures keeps acting like such a shithead without taking any responsibility, harming the platform and many of it's creators as a whole. Dissapointed that the shitstorm earlier this year didn't teach him anything and frankly he deserves all the flak he gets.

As a side note. To the person who said we wanna destroy Pew for every mistake he makes. Yes at this point I do. Cause he's garbage and he's influencing a audience of kids who will normalize this stuff. Dude can go to fucking hell.

I'm not talking about watching game streams, i'm talking about the game streamers themselves being held to account.

Max and Pewdiepie are not the same, but they should both not be saying words like that and should take care to avoid saying them. Even if Pewds himself is a racist who will say whatever he wants anyway.

This guy is almost 30 and you want to tell us that he basically didn't know better despite having grown up on the internet and having an international audience for years now

Keep your deep analysis 😂

You're either ignorant or a fucking liar.

I'm not sure why he said "average racist" but average European person definitely doesn't understand how loaded that word is, especially if you're from poorer backgrounds and English isn't your native language. My mom says n-word when referring to black people and it's not intended as malicious.

Click on thread thinking "Yep, guy continues to be a racist shit, pretty indefensible", and yet here we are with people defending an obviously racist shit.

Pewds is done.

The sad part is that he's probably not. In this thread alone you have many people defending him. This number will be much higher amongst his YouTube fanbase. He'll issue some weak-ass apology, be in the shitter with people who mostly don't watch his videos anyway, and will hang out until the next YouTuber does/says something stupid.

But weird parts of gamer GAF thought hey a gamer guy succeeded let's defend him even though his ideas were always idiotic, his actions always puerile and misconceived.

There was a time here in Sweden (where he's from) where there was a pretty big push from mainstream media to make him come to talk shows and make interviews; to get in on the hype for him among young people, make him a household name and embrace internet/gaming culture. He even had a spot on Swedish radio's perhaps most prestigeous show, Sommarpratarna (basically 90 minutes every day of summer where whoever's got the spot that day talks freely about their lives or whatever they want to share, and selects music to be played). I remember people in the gaming sphere here thought it a bit weird and perhaps even uncomfortable, but overall it was cherished and I think I was one of those people who kind of put aside my general distaste for his content and personality because I thought it was a good thing that mainstream media put the spotlight on an internet personality.

Now he'll never be invited to mainstream media shows, and it'll be a long time before something like that happens again. I'm so sick of scum like JonTron and Pewdiepie, and their poor influence on people (in particular kids) and the community as a whole.

By gaffe I mean a slip up which this will be given he will give news outlets more ammo AND this further taints his already suspect appeal with people. It's a mistake not so much that he meant it or not but more so that he will suffer the consequences because of such.
