I don't know why there is such a knee jerk reaction towards someone being called out as a racist when they do racist things, but pewdiepie is a grown man and a multi-millionaire. He doesn't need or deserve internet white knighting. When you make millions off of being a public persona, you should be held to higher standards than a 13 year old with his first XBL subscription.

That is a very legitimate issue for those whose job is being a content creator. I think we all know what Jim's stance is on matters like racism and sexism, he has plenty of content that adresses those issues. I don't see any problem with him creating a video addressing legitimate profession concerns when a fellow content creator serves as the face of your industry and routinely fucks up and thereby threatens the livelyhood of thousands of people.

It's possible, in fact, more likely than not, they can't successfully win out in a DMCA challenge of the video. And by they I mean the firewatch guys. Basically a contract was formed between the two parties, assuming PDP saw and actually relied on the statement saying it was okay to make the video on the website.

Because while normally contracts require an exchange of consideration to constitute a contract, there is the doctrine of promissory estoppel which can replace that requirement. This would likely fill any licensing/permission requirement imposed by the copyright laws.

I only watched the half with PDP and yes, that's what I got from the video. He explicitly denounced the remark as well as racism, but I still found it light on social commentary. A large part of the PDP section was about how Felix' action affect Youtubers and the platform in general which I don't care about and which in my opinion is irrelevant.

I think it's clear where Jim stands on the matter. I think it does help the overall conversation to bring up how these actions affect YouTubers at large. It gives people one less reason to go to bat for the offenders as well.

Not sure why you're parading around this "full context" flag when I followed his stream from the break from another topic. He had stopped talking, discussed something else and come back to push out more points.

Not sure either why I should have to dig around his feed for the 60+ tweets and replies he gave on the topic. If he wanted coherence he should have tweeted a link to a platform that allows it over devolving into a pathetic tirade because people expect him to actually take a definitive stance.

I think a huge part of the problem is that the people who use the word regularly have normalized its use in their minds. They figure that everyone must secretly think like them, because nobody wants to believe that they're the problem. So while they understand on a surface level that it's wrong to talk like that, they don't think that it's a huge deal because of their imagined reasoning that everyone else is just putting on a show and cares as little as they do.

Context shows a man more preoccupied with how this will affect his revenue streams than with this exhibition of racism by a public figure.
