Reggie: Don't pay more than $80 for SNES Classic, supply won't be an issue.

No he isnt. He claims they've SUPPLIED enough units for everyone and tries to wash his hands of the SUPPLY issues because SOME, not all, retailers had TECHNICAL issues. You're falling for his bullshit.

This whole situation wouldn't exist if they actually made enough for everyone. Scalpers alone can't buy up 10M+ units. And most retailers wouldn't shut down preorders for weeks/months if they knew for sure they would be getting more units in the future.

That happens with many limited supply items, they preorder what they expect and then open it back up when they get revised/actual numbers.

Reread it. Where did he say that? I'm not falling for any bullshit, but he's not lying when he's saying that there are issues with retailers that is beyond their control. Wal-Mart listing early and then cancelling? That's on Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart cancelling multiple orders? That's on Wal-Mart. Amazon cancelling multiple orders? That's on Amazon. Best Buy cancelling any orders over 3 units, that's on Best Buy. Nintendo has no control over those issues.

What? Preorders close all the time for launch items and don't open up until more supply. You act like this never happens? Look at every single video game console launch to ever happen. You think retailers aren't getting more hardware for every console that has existed either? Why can't I preorder an Xbox One X?

I buy it.

Nintendo's producing countless millions of these, but in classic Nintendo incompetent fashion, they haven't bothered to tell any retailers anything.

Nintendo logic: "who needs pre-orders? There's going to be plenty of these."

Woof, now here's how you *very* angrily announce a boycott, with a death wish as the cherry on top.

If being 'Nintendo free' is helping you out then I wish you luck on your stance, despite the fact it looks like you'll be missing out on a lot starting on Wednesday.

You do you champ!

Aww. I am flattered. You charmer you! I bet the pastel color arrangements in your dwelling are ever so bright and cheerful! Hug a dolphin and pick some dandelions for me when you do~!

But seriously, FUCK NINTENDO AND THEIR INABILITY TO MANAGE SUPPLY CHAINS. Clearing out the Nintendo library was one of the best things I have done this year. Should have done it YEARS AGO. And Reggie deserves the spite; you cannot come out and just state something like that when Nintendo has yet to back up that kind of claim ONCE.

If this is true, they should have said it from the beginning. It would have surely helped scare off scalpers and made preorders easier to obtain for actual customers.

Well, I do believe that they're producing more units than the NES, but I don't believe it'll be enough.

How about giving us another run at the NES as a show of good faith?

Size of demand for the NES currently might not be large enough to make economical sense to negotiate a new production contract and all the logistics, administrative and marketing resources that go with it. I mean the scalpers probably covered a lot of the left over demand by now.

Not once? They've backed it up for just about every console they've ever released. NES classic was the exception, not the rule.

"Don't pay more than $80," he says while Finnish retailers are selling the thing for $180. "Supply won't be an issue," he says while Finnish retailers are saying that they've already sold all the stock they're going to get this year.

Yes, I know Reggie has nothing to do with Nintendo of Europe, but still.

LOL WUT? Not even. That's just wrong. Since the Wii, its has been "GOOD LUCK! (YOU'RE GONNA NEED IT!)" getting most things Nintendo hardware shortly after release date. And by that, I mean as an average person who walks into a store wanting an item. You can lurk SD, CAG, Brickseek, etc and stay on top of it I guess, but most people do not do that and just want to find items at their own leisure. That is whom I am relating to.

I can think of several examples from game systems to certain Amibo that are valid given my original statement. They should have a "Nintendo Seal of Shortage" like they do with "Nintendo Seal of Quality".

I sincerely cannot trust Nintendo to deliver on anything like this now unless they want to deliver on it from the start. And remember, this is hardware - software means nothing in this discussion and is a different beast altogether.

Ok was he actually quoted as saying supply is not a problem? Cause the quote from that article says nothing of the sort. Just says to not pay scalper prices

I'm just hoping that create a cart for the Switch to have all the games at around that price. I would definitely jump on it. I don't particularly care to have something else connected to my tv.

We don't know for sure. The GameSpot article says: "He added that for the SNES Classic, supply is not the issue."

From the original Financial Times article:

FT said:
It goes on sale for $80 on September 29 but customers have complained about that pre-ordering systems at some retailers have been overwhelmed. Many customers believed that was due to limited stock but Mr Fils-Aimé blamed problems ”outside our control" at retailers. ”In this case, it's not" a supply issue, he said. ”I would strongly urge you not to over-bid on an SNES Classic on any of the auction sites . . . You shouldn't [have to] pay more than $79.99."

Explaining last year's shortages, Mr Fils-Aimé denied that Nintendo was trying to stimulate excitement around the NES Classic by purposefully creating scarcity.

He said that initial NES Classic production volumes had been based on the historically low sales of other retro-gaming devices from other manufacturers, while the $80 price was set so as to not exceed Nintendo's current offerings, such as the 3DS handheld.

It's hard to parse since they don't provide the full quote. But in both cases that quote is referring to the pre-orders.

Supply issues cause scalping. Demand for an item hard to find due to lack of supply causes insane price markups for when you can find them using other channels than retail. This is not because they can't get the boat full of them out of the dock in China. It leads into what he says. He says availability won't be a problem (meaning the supply chain will pick up any slack ASAP), and not to pay scalper prices, but gives no concrete reasons why we should think that is going to be the case. And from Nintendo's past efforts with supplying retail properly (from systems to Amibo), there is no reason to believe him AT ALL.

Size of demand for the NES currently might not be large enough to make economical sense to negotiate a new production contract and all the logistics, administrative and marketing resources that go with it. I mean the scalpers probably covered a lot of the left over demand by now.

If you want a Chinese clone knock off (includes 620 games!), sure. Otherwise, still up to $300 on Ebay.

There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on, shame on you. Fool me, you can’t get fooled again.

All they had to do was to not make the SNES Classic limited in the first place. By coming out and stating that it would be limited on top of not having preorders available for two months makes it a ripe target for scalping and retailer markups while driving customers to grab one as soon as they can to avoid these.

Reggie will be fine as always.

Wow the anger is palpable, I have no reason to believe this isn't genuine either. All I can do really is feel sorry for you, it's not healthy to be *this* wound up about video games. I think it's obvious that sarcasm and such is unnecessary at this point, you really are just better off staying far away at this point, and to be 100% honest I think Nintendo threads would be better off without this unabated anger, underlined, bolded and capitalised cursing and death wishes.

I guess have a nice life Nintendo-less, I won't be seeing more of you in these threads then after today?

See you in the Super Mario Odyssey OT I kid, I kid.

Seriously the only way they won't have a supply issue with these is if they make like 10 million of them. I don't see that happening.

How does Nintendo have control over that? Doesn't that fall into a retail issue that is beyond their control like Reggie says?

True, but he says don't pay more than $80 for it, but then they're totally okay with retailers bundling shit.

I mean, it's like you could at least try to discourage them pushing shit because limited supply means people will buy $200 worth of stuff to get the $80 prize inside.

bull fucking shit
the fact that there a tons of people who still want an NES Classic that can't find one for less $150... Nintendo makes as many as they want to make. not as many as they can to satisfy demand.
