I dunno, won't having no interest in putting ads in a huge part of YT videos make advertisers not be interested in Youtube period?

This could end up hurting YT's bottom line which is the only way they'll get off their asses. Whether thats a good thing or not is up for debate considering how YT handles things but at this point I don't think gaming channels have anything to lose.

Youtube has plenty of inventory to run all the ads they need to run. While gaming might be a pretty big slice for them, stuff like beauty, viral videos, comedy, regular vlogging, etc, etc is also gigantic.

Plus, advertisers can still put in the target audience. So you aim at male 18-25, you just promote your new shooter before a viral video instead of a gaming video. Doesn't really make that much of a difference for them, but they won't risk being linked to material like this.
