Apple Watch Series 1&2 |OT| Better, Wetter

so hyped. i really hope this has a removable sim though (id buy a second as a 'backup phone lol) but if my carrier supports it day one i'm in. heck i'd switch carriers for this if i have to.

I told myself I was going to stop posting so much in Apple threads so I guess this will be my last one for a while:

I’ve been saying for a year now how if they come out with a black ceramic Edition with cellular I’d pay whatever it took. Gray is close enough, I guess I’m doing this thing.

I honestly still don’t understand how carriers can justify an additional charge. Same phone number, assume pulling from the same data allowance? Just let us use them for free. Not like they’re going to use much data anyway - some messaging and notifications, and maybe an occasional call is all th ebattery is likely to handle. We aren’t going to be streaming Spotify directly to our beats through it all day.

Still happy enough with my series 0 as long as it’s just for notifications and I don’t try and use apps. SS too beautiful and expensive to replace - especially in the UK where prices didn’t drop because of the exchange rate.

Careers will charge anything and everything they think they can get away with.

While I was in the US, I thought it was ridiculous to charge users to receive calls or texts. And to charge for tethered data.

In NZ, 20c sms text messages is crazy, and 20c to check your voice mail, despite having free minutes is weird.

Lol, nobody seems to care enough of Series 3 to make a thread.

I'm pretty pissed since I really wanted a cellular Apple Watch.

But having it available only on EE, an hour of talk time, four hours of LTE time, and an extra monthly charge is a bit too rich even for me.

It really doesn't achieve the 'leave your phone home for a big night out" use case I want one for

This has always been the catch-all thread for Apple Watch. I have Series 0, probably going to upgrade to the Series 3 (non-LTE because peasant country, but I don't mind since I don't need it and definitely don't need that ugly red button). It's actually cheaper now by 70 Euro, going at 399 instead of 469 for the Series 2, so good going Apple.

They all look and act the same, so it's fine, should just have a mod make this the Apple Watch |OT| We bigger than Rolex now, son.

Yeah I don’t think there needs to be a dedicated series 3 thread since the series 1 is still for sale, and these things aren’t quite as big as iPhones yet.

I agree with the title change and making this multi-generational, like the Mac thread

EE getting greedy with those watch plans.

If you want that cellular connectivity, you'll have to fork over an extra £70 and pick up an eSIM plan through EE, which we've heard will cost around £25 per month with unlimited data.

https://www.engadget.com/2017/09/12/apple-watch-series-3-cellular-pricing-uk/

It's the opposite here. Bell is charging only $5 per month (and the first 3 months free!) but their monthly plans are horridly expensive
Jesse: Yeah, it's not just the $5/month for the Apple Watch plan.... it's more like an extra $40/month to switch to an equivalent Bell plan plus the $5/month for the Apple Watch plan

Shaf: I'm getting 10GB of data + phone service for under $80 with another carrier. Can't find anything comparative through Bell

Yeah, just the Bell price for my calling minutes/features―without any data― is what I'm paying now per month. If I add the equivalent Bell data plan I'd be paying an extra $100 per month. Fuck eSims :(. A basic Bell plan to test it out myself is $75 (2GB+300mins and iPhone visual voicemail) FML. I'm waiting for reviews.

Non-cellular S3 is a winner, will definitely pick one up.
£70 + additional monthly fee (which I can’t even pay yet not being on EE) is too much for the assurance that I could call somebody if I ever had an accident on a run.
When I really think about it, that’s the only time I’d need cellular ability on the Watch.
Music streaming is unnecessary with watchOS4 auto-syncing too so I’m in for the lesser model this time around.

Still waiting on always on display. My series 0 was already too slow to use apps meaningfully so I should be ok with it for notifications

Price drop is welcome but I think I'd want the SS (picked up a discounted SS S0) which is still £600

Is the speed increase of the series 2 noticeable if you don't use it heavily for apps (just occasionally reading and replying to messages etc)? 1.7x faster for the S3 sounds decent too - probably 5x the series 0 by now :)

I thought I'd miss always-on coming from Android Wear, but yeah, not missing that at all, the wrist raise never fails me and is such an easy movement.

I hadn't even thought about that for a year until you just brought it up, heh.

If I had £1 for every time I raised my wrist on the tube and it didn't come on - and then I just put my arm down and live with not knowing the time because I don't want to keep waving my arms around..

Reeeeeallllly sucks that apple removed the SS version without LTE. Such a dilemma about what I want but will probably end up getting the SS with cellular. Apple won this round. Just know I'll regret the Sport's lack of sapphire.

That's weird, I have a Series 0 and it's working splendidly, both turning on and off.

I'd ask you if you configured it correctly as far as wrist- and button-positioning go, but I doubt you wouldn't have. I have no idea why your experience is so different to mine, huh, weird.

First day with the Siri watch face...

This morning I was shown 'cards' for my two morning appointments, the days weather and sunset, a breathe reminder, a general reminder, alarms I had set and the days News headlines. It's midday now and I've since had a Now Playing card popping in whenever I've had music on, I have a timer card right now showing remaining time left and another weather card just popped in alerting me that it will begin raining in two hours.

Super cool so far, way better than standard complications or switching between multiple faces at different times of the day. With a little more customisation and tweaking and access for third party apps this will be really good.

They've removed Maps as a data source which is unfortunate.
There are currently toggles for cards from:
Alarms, Breathe, Calendar, News, Now Playing, Photos, Reminders, Stopwatch, Timer, Wallet, Weather and Workout.

Yeah I've been using the Siri face exclusively since I started running the beta.

As you saind, imo the best thing it does is show you a card with the time it's going to rain or get really windy. Very convenient since I walk a lot.

Siri watch face looks very promising indeed. Can't wait for the stable release next week. I do have to wonder though - will it require my iPhone to be on iOS 11?

can I even buy the SS + LTE if I don't have an operator that supports it? I'm on vodafone and LTE is only on EE. So would I just have a £70 paperweight inside my phone until vodafone support it? that would be annoying

maybe I'll keep an eye out for a series 2 SS on clearance as Apple have discontinued it. Thats how I got my cheap S0 SS

yeah you should 100% still be able to buy it. I'm buying it and don't even plan on using the LTE. My carrier doesn't support it yet either.

There are refurb SS series 2 watches on the apple store website but you'd be missing out on a few things that if you're fine without you should get. I think namely the 70% better performance, the more efficient wireless chip which probably helps battery, and wireless charging, oh and the new sensor.

But if your carrier doesn't support LTE now they might in the future so you never know.

Glad I read this thread - continued lack of Spotify support will continue to prevent me from buying a watch. It's very apparent Apple is just trying to push their lesser music service.

What? How is it apple's fault that spotify doesn't have an app?

Completely Spotify’s fault. They shut down an amazing Spotify app by a fan that was about to be released in February. Haven’t heard a single word since.

You can still stream from the phone and control from your watch with the now playing screen. If having a dedicated app on your watch streaming Spotify to BT headphones is disappointing, it wouldn’t be nearly as disappointing as your battery dying after a couple of hours

Is this actually the case? Seems strange when I can listen to Spotify on many other devices, and their phone app is pretty good imo. Don't they have an android watch app?

That’s the fan app they “acquired” aka shut down. Offline mode with playlist syncingdirectly on the Watch, full access to your Spotify library, complications... it’s clear they don’t want to have an app on the watch at this point.

I'm familiar with that app, which is strange. Why would they not want to support the watch though? Are they really just slow or not interested in the device?

After digging up the reddit account of the developer, it seems they (Spotify iOS lead team or whoever is responsible for getting this out) are just slow as molasses. Apparently they still work on the watch app.

Thinking about getting a series 3 and a sport loop. But the sport loop is 50$ and the gps version only has the sport band.

I can get one that comes with the sport loop for 70$ more since it's only offered with the LTE version 🤔

Tricky bastards

Edit: will these be on display at Apple stores starting tomorrow or starting on ship day?

I ordered a Black Sport Loop yesterday via the Apple Store app, and it arrives tomorrow according to the tracking. Not sure if those bands will be in-store yet - when I ordered it said that in-store pickup wouldn't be available until Monday.

The black is what I have my eye on. I love how it actually has a bunch of colors mixed in to create a heather black instead of solid black.

Ship day, 22nd
Thanks.
