Slight spoilers ahead, though nothing that isn't pretty common knowledge by now.

TLDR: You only have to beat Ultron Sigma to unlock a color in arcade. After that you can quit to the main menu without fighting Ultron Omega. Also, you will unlock all stages by the time you get to Ultron Omega in story, but you do not have to actually beat him to get them.

Slightly longer: Ultron Omega is kind of annoying to fight... not hard once you figure out what the deal is, but time consuming and not a ton of fun, especially if you have to do it over and over again to unlock colors. The good news is that you don't have to beat him to unlock colors in arcade, just get to him and quit out. Once you're back to the main menu, you'll get the message that you unlocked the next two colors for the characters you used.

A couple of little tidbits to add:
-You unlock three and then four in order regardless of the character combination. For instance, I unlocked Nova 3 and Frank 3, then played through again with Nova and Thanos. I got Nova 4 and Thanos 3.
-You unlock colors for every costume at the same time. I played with Carol in her normal costume and also got Color 3 for the "Major Danvers" alt (aka Wave 2). Yes, there are alternate colors for alternate outfits!
-It's POSSIBLE that you have to beat arcade all the way through at least once for this to happen but I don't think so. I discovered this after having beaten Ultron Omega once so I can't confirm that it works without doing it unless I delete my save, which I'm not gonna bother to do.
-There may be gallery collectables or titles that you don't get if you don't beat Ulton Omega. I haven't really been paying much attention to that so I have no idea how it works.
-Other than the stages, there doesn't appear to be any significant reward for beating story. The rumors of unlocking Ultron Sigma aren't true, at least based on what I've done so far (and others have said they've beaten story twice and still not gotten him). There is a post-credits scene though so stay tuned for that.

Alternate costumes also have four colors each:

Do we know anything about the PC version? Still trying to decide between PC and PS4 and that gmg is making me lean towards PC.

I could buy it right now.

But they lost me so hard with the demo, the graphics, the roster, the gameplay changes, that I have no interest in supporting it. :/

The demo was a horrible example of the gameplay (not your fault, just saying), the graphics have largely improved, and the gameplay itself is arguably better than MvC3.

I can't blame you on that roster thing, though.

Your loss. Really. The gameplay is more crazier than UMVC3. The story demo is trash since it actually causes the damages to Infinite branding.

Day 1 patch with the official release on the 19th enables unlocks, maybe costumes and the Ultron sigma unlock if it's true.

Good to hear that it's actually good cause something in me still really really wants it.

But I don't know if it's worth it for me.
How is the content? Much to do and to unlock like in Injustice 2? Or Barebones with only lame different colors and massive microtransactions like in SF5?

NOTE TO ALL WHO PRE-ORDERED THROUGH CD-KEYS.COM

The cd-key appears to be Euro region only, they've updated their site to show as such. https://www.cdkeys.com/pc/games/marvel-vs-capcom-infinite-pc-steam-cd-key

You should contact them for a refund if you can't use it, they seem to be quite willing to offer a refund. https://www.reddit.com/r/mvci/comments/70fyox/anyone_else_get_refund_from_cdkeyscom/

Just drop them an email.

You CAN NOT redeem the key if you're not in the allowed region, Steam has now also banned the use of VPNs for that shit so you're outta luck. Go get a refund.

I don't know much about IJ2 but I have heard so much about how grindy it was. You unlock colors by playing arcade mode or online matches.

It have a story mode, arcade modes (without unique endings like MVC2), mission modes w characters missions and better tutorial missions and gallery mode where you earn a lot of stuffs from beating the modes to unlock contents (trophies like Smash in a sense).

Also they have beginners lounge for new players who want to try online without worrying about getting matched up against good players. Yes, there are ranked, lobby and casual.

It had always said that. As long as the region isn't specifically Germany or Eastern Europe, European and US steam keys are always cross-compatible.

Thank you for your concern, though. If i end up having an issue with this, you can always tell me "I told you so".

Unless Steam has changed something recently, you should be able to use that key regardless. You'll just have to go through some VPN fuckery when you first activate it.

EDIT: Oh didn't know about that cross-compatibility. Good for you guys then. And I would never say "I told you so" for matters that involve real money or loss, I only do that for fighting game characters being shit/too good.

EDIT2: Ahh see Helacious' post, there does seem to be some fuckery involved. You should e-mail them just in case and find out.

That MikeZ tweet was so obvious, it's almost teetering on self parody.

Finds an infinite that might actually not be in the day 1 version of the game, then posts crap like "going back to Marvel 2" as if Marvel 2 isn't one of the most broken and poorly designed fighting games made. I bet if some of those old games came out today he would be spouting the same crap.

If he was just critical about modern games then it would be fine but then he purposely glosses over the flaws of the older games and just props up the good points about them. Makes it feel less like objective criticism and more like jaded old gamer talking smack about anything that is new.

No it was global before. Now it shows Europe. Also I got this email today

Hi there,

We regret to inform you that there has been a mix up with the region information on Marvel vs Capcom Infinite Edition and our codes will not work in your country.

We are unable to obtain a localized version so we have had to refund your payment.

We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused and would like to provide you with a $6 discount voucher - XXXXXXXXXXXX.

Kind Regards,

If your steam region is not Europe you won't be able to redeem the cdkeys code. VPN to circumvent it is bannable on steam.

I didn't take it seriously, but finding an infinite before day 1 is rather funny.

Hey man those some fightin' words. MvC2 is broken in such a good way it's practically art.
