Packers look pretty much the same as last year, only a year older and slower. That organization is wasting Aaron Rodgers talent. They don't have any playmakers on offense, and that is a travesty. I can't remember the last time they could get to 20 points before the half. That should be a given regardless of the team they're facing with Aaron behind center.

Has there been a more overrated WR than Dez in recent memory. They talk about him like he's a game changer but hasn't been in a long time. Drops passes or is invisible far more than other so called elite WR and it's not like he's s great route runner that constantly gets open.

I agree with Sheil Kapadia on the state of the Eagles run game. Pederson is right to focus on the passing game, because that is where all the Eagles' offensive talent is.

Would a little bit more balance be nice? Sure. But I didn't watch that game and think the Eagles would have won had they run the ball more.

The offense put up 17 points in the second half — three scores on six possessions (not counting the Hail Mary). After Sproles' first two carries of the game, Eagles running backs totaled 34 yards on their next 11 attempts (3.09 yards per carry). At some point, coaches just have to decide what gives the team the best chance to win the game. Pederson decided that was a pass-heavy attack, and given the Eagles' personnel, I don't disagree with him.

The Eagles had 27 first downs, compared to 16 for the Chiefs. They totaled 406 yards, compared to 344. The offense was far from perfect, but it was moving the ball.

What cost them the game were the key mistakes described above — not a lack of commitment to the run game.

And the lack of talent in the running game is on the front office, not Pederson.

I think the front office has to shoulder the blame for the state of the run game. It's true that the current regime was not responsible for trading LeSean McCoy. That's a perfectly valid point. And it's also true that the Eagles had a lot of holes to fill in the post-Chip Kelly era. But this is more about process than results. The Eagles traded up to pick Donnel Pumphrey in the fourth round of this year's draft. He measured in at 5-foot-8, 176 pounds at the combine. In the last 10 years, the most yards by a running back that size in an entire season was 120 (Garrett Wolfe). If the Eagles really thought he could help them in the run game, they were making a ridiculous and irresponsible gamble.

And the same can be said (to a lesser degree) about the LeGarrette Blount signing. He is 30 years old and coming off of a career-high in carries.

Running back is a position where teams should be able to find adequate players without investing a lot of resources. Given the holes that the Eagles have had to address over the last two years, their margin for error is small. They invested in the passing game this offseason and tried to get by with a lesser investment at running back. That part is fine. But their process in selecting the specific running backs was flawed, and we are seeing the results.

The Eagles have to make acquiring a talented RB a high-priority in the next offseason. Until then though, they are going to be throwing the ball a ton.

Romo made him a better receiver than he was. He doesn't have a QB to elevate his game anymore.

He's a great WR though. Better than anything on the birds.

Eagles game thoughts:

- I was fine with the loss going in, but being tied with 6 mins remaining and then giving up 14 quick points stings a bit. Yeah, the Eagles almost had a miraculous comeback even then, but they were very much in the game up until those last 6 mins and could have pulled off the upset.

- Wentz looked like Wentz. Which means a lot of great plays, but some pretty bad ones as well. I find the Wentz hate perplexing. If you listened to the haters, you would think Wentz was one of the bottom 5 QBs in the league. The reality is he is near the middle (#13 in ANY/A, #14 in Rating, #15 in QBR), but for a second-year QB who has all the tools and will continue to develop, that is pretty good.

- The defense played great up until those last 6 mins. Considering they were dealing with a depleted secondary, and having to defend some short fields, I can't fault them too much. Rookie CB Rasul Douglas looked great and I'm thinking he might end up starting sooner than later. The front seven continues to dominate. Eli is in for a world of hurt next week.

Overall, this loss isn't the end of the world. They went on the road, against a tough AFC West opponent, and were in it until the end. That's better than what the Cowboys managed. If they can beat the Giants next week, they will be in good shape in the division.
Generally lines up with my thoughts, so I'll just quote you and add on.

- Losing that game at the end sucked since they had the chance, but I also had this marked as a loss. Our defense was doing everything they could, but they were gassed and injured at the end of the game. Luckily it sounds like McLeod's injury isn't too serious.

- I'm happy with Wentz' development so far. He's pretty much exactly where I expected him to be. He's nowhere near a finished product and has to seriously work on his deep ball accuracy, as well as the flat/screen passing. Also he holds onto the ball too long still and makes questionable decisions sometimes. He still has a lot of work to do and he's not ready to carry the team, so hopefully Doug doesn't continue to make that necessary. But Wentz' escapability and scrambling ability is insane, and he's good at the intermediate routes that are good enough to move the chains. The receiver chemistry with Smith and Jeffery is getting better too. I'm encouraged by his development

- A lot has been made about the run game, but I'm not sure what Doug can really do. These RBs aren't good, and establishing the run isn't really a thing when you're getting 2 ypc. The OL is doing pretty poorly opening holes also. Seumalo, after showing promise last year in multiple spots, has been horrible so far. Hopefully he can improve because it's bizarre he's regressed so much. But regardless, the run isn't working, so trying to force it won't help. I want a better pass/run ratio than 81:19, but expecting this to be a 55:45 team is probably unrealistic. If the Eagles can get to a 60:40 split I'd be happy, but this is a passing team.

- The defense was outstanding, this front 7 is legit. They were right with this Chiefs team until the very end, and when your offense can't move the ball that'll happen. The secondary also did better than expected with Watkins and McLeod getting injured. Luckily, the next 5 or 6 opponents the Eagles play have had anemic opponents so hopefully they can hang in there until Darby, McLeod, and others heal up.

- Final thought is a shout out to the rookies. After some people made a big deal last week about the Eagles not utilizing their rookies, Barnett, Hollins, and Douglas all stepped up. Barnett didn't get any stats, but he was disruptive in the run and pass and opened up some plays for Kendricks (who's actually looking good now). Mack Hollins looked good in minimal time and he should make a good WR4 this season. I have high hopes he'll eventually earn a starting job. And Douglas really impressed me. I knew he had talent but he was so raw coming out of college, and the Eagles lined him up against Tyreek Hill a few times. Luckily, he was able to contain Hill and had some really great tackling. In the future, having Douglas on one side playing zone against WR2 and Jones/Darby on the other playing man could make for a great secondary.

Overall, losing to a good Chiefs team in Arrowhead isn't the worst. That was a winnable game, but the Eagles looked like they belonged and competed hard. That's as close to a 'quality loss' you'll get, and I feel pretty good about the team going forward. I still have qualms about Doug's playcalling and the lack of run game, but I'm overall happy

The thing is. He has to make a play. The only way we score is if he makes a play. Luckily he's good as fuck and he can make plays, but he's getting exposed to a lot of hits and is throwing much more than he should be. Hard to blame him for holding onto the ball when everyone knows you can't rely on the run game.

You and BG are gonna have to possibly fight to death for Saquan Barkley

hope you win so we can take Derwin and us to try and trade back up for Chubb

I'd love Barkley but he's probably going to be a top 5 pick. But there are a bunch of talented RBs that can be had in rounds 2-3, who would all be immediate upgrades over what they currently have on the roster.

Getting only Pumphrey out of last year's loaded RB class was such a disaster. It's basically set the team's development back a whole year.

I agree with you. Wentz isn't ready to be that type of player yet where he can make those plays. He isn't good enough to carry the offense by himself but he's being forced to. That said, on some of those plays I'd rather see him be more careful. Until he develops more, I'd rather he just go through his reads and if nothing's open, just throw the ball away. Don't always try to make magic happen. If that means the drive stalls, it stalls. If the Eagles lose, that's fine. This year is about Wentz' development, not a playoff run. Giving up on plays will improve his decision making so he'll learn that it's ok to give up on a play, and hopefully in the future he'll learn to differentiate between the truly busted play, or a busted play where he can do his improvisation.

Unless the Eagles season goes terribly they won't be able to get Barkley. Now Guice or Chubb, there's a possibility

It was really bad but I dunno about disaster. Basically all of the RBs that have produced so far were before the Eagles picked Pumphrey. Everyone after him hasn't done anything yet. So to get one of these RBs, you'd have to give up Barnett, Jones, or Douglas, or trade up and give up assets that got Hollins or Qualls. I dunno if I'd give up any one of those 3 for a RB, and Hollins and Qualls can become good contributors

If the Colts lose to the Browns next week, I get the feeling Andrew Luck will "regress" and be out for the season. And then we'll see just how many games the Colts can lose (all of them).

Which will make me sad as a season ticket holder, but I'll understand and look forward to 2018. Refreshed Andrew Luck, hopefully a bounty of draft picks, and a new head coach.

We mentioned on our podcast that the Houston Texans have been fielding phone calls checking on Duane Brown and his status. One of those teams trying to pry Brown away has been the Seattle Seahawks. They might eventually find a common ground, but the Texans want Brown to play for in Houston.

They know their offensive line is not well-equipped, even more so with Brown out the picture. The Texans hold all the cards regarding his future in the NFL and this will continue to drag on as the season continues.

Brown met with media prior to the season and made it clear that he wanted to play this year.

“Not going to get into that too much but I”m definitely playing football this year.”

Remember, Brown said he wanted to play football this season. He just never said it was in Houston.

First round pick and he is yours Seahawks GAF

Lucky for us.. we can let you in on the deal of one top 5 draft pick straight from the Texans (hopefully.. Sorry Texans-GAF except Line).

I'm not buying this BS about the run game not working so they had to do pass pass pass. This is just Reid all over again down to the excuses. If the passing game isn't working do Reid or Pederson ever go away from it?

There is no reason Wentz should be throwing 45 times against the Chiefs. Fact is that the more you run, the better balance you have, it protects a young QB, helps the OLINE actually push back, and just like KC had you only need one big break for a big run.

The Eagles had no consistency. Sproles gets 1 carry then they would go pass pass pass even after getting a 1st down. Then Smallwood gets a carry. 1 carry total for Blount. A 3 headed monster only works if you actually run the ball.

This is a good OLINE but it can't pass protest the whole game. You have to stick with the run game. It was a 1 possession or tied game most of the game and they abandoned the run before the half was over.

Savage, who was largely undone by a bevy of drops and woeful pass protection in Week 1, lost his job just 31 offensive plays into the season after being announced as the starter weeks ago and getting most of the first-team reps in the offseason. When the Texans moved up to select Deshaun Watson in the first round, there was always the possibility he would play sooner rather than later, but the extremely short sample size has created an awkward situation.
At least four teams have had some level of interest in Savage dating back to last season, and Texans coach Bill O'Brien had long been a champion of the 2014 fourth-round pick. Veteran players came out strongly -- publicly and privately, sources said -- in favor of Savage this summer, and despite a history of pulling starters early, the manner in which Savage was benched last Sunday was shocking.
In the past, teams like the 49ers, Vikings (after losing Teddy Bridgewater to a career-threatening knee injury in training camp last summer) and Jets have mulled Savage's availability, and all came away convinced the Texans valued Savage highly and were not interested in trading him
, and that it would take significant value in return to pry him away, as he was considered a potential starting quarterback in Houston.

Yes! I get a new team next year or even this year. Hoping its the Niners so me and FMT can be bros!
