Media Create Sales: Week 36, 2017 (Sep 04 - Sep 10)

Stupid move, if you ask me. They should have made a PS4 Slim bundle and release it alongside the game.

Why would a PS4 Slim have been smarter? It's a limited quantity model. Only the big fans will buy it. By making this a PS4 Pro, they have the premium model for the best experience, which is what the biggest fans would want, right?

Is this a Sony Store exclusive?

I'm not certain if it's exclusive.

https://www.jp.playstation.com/blog/detail/5651/20170919-sangokumusou8.html

Machine translation:

At the Sony Store, in commemoration of the launch of the "True Sangoku Musou 8" software for PlayStation® 4, we decided to release the PS4® collaboration model "PlayStation® 4 True / Sanko Musou 8 Edition" in limited quantities It was. We will inform you of sales schedule and release date etc. again.

A desperate way to get attention during a lackluster holiday season.

"Hey, we have this MH-branded PS4!"

That's a more cynical approach to it, but you could also see it as: "Hey, MH's coming out in just a month or so, and you'll be able to play it best on this PS4 Pro!"

After all, Pro adoption rates still aren't amazing anywhere (not that you would expect them to be), and this is even more true in Japan, so the more that are out there, the better.

Can't disagree with you here.
Holiday seems pretty awful for PS4 but Q1 2018 is off to a good start. MHW's early release date should put an end to the stupid speculation about the 1.5M number that was circulating, and there's Hokuto the next month.

This is already almost like tradition for PS4. Weak holiday lineup and then a lot of sw releases in between january and march. Last year was pretty much exception and even that was solely because of FF XV.

Here's perhaps a more natural-sounding take:
At the Sony Store, we have decided to release a limited 'Shin Sangoku Musou 8 Edition' Playstation 4, to commemorate the release of the Playstation 4 game of the same name.
Specific information pertaining to the release schedule will be posted at a later date.

Seeing as it was a 'decision made at/by the Sony Store', one would think it to be exclusive to that service. They go on to talk about taking pre-orders via email today, on the 19th.

January is crazy.

What's Switch's first notable game of 2018? (or game period I guess)

I know Kirby is Spring....
When is Mario + Rabbids?

It's not bundled with the game ? Uhh, what's the point of this then ?

It includes a download code for the game.

Not really. Every bundle works in two ways. The first one is for people that not have the system and want to buy it alongside the game and the second is the one you said (for fans).

First Party? None are known yet, but of the announced titles, it could be Kirby.

Otherwise, the only announced Switch games right now in January are Rabbids and Lost Spheare.

Three games for December, one PSVR-only game for November. click

Is that true? I just went to look at the release schedule and it seems like there's a few more than that.
November is:
.Hack//G.U. Last Recode
Call of Duty: WWII
Sonic Forces
Occulctic;Nine
Need for Speed Payback
Star Wars Battlefront II
Hatsune Miku Project DIVA Future Tone DX
Nobunaga's Ambition: Taishi
The Surge
Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time

Then December:
Yakuza Kiwami 2
Agents of Mayhem
Kamen Rider: Climax Fighters
Okami HD (Zekkei)
LA Noire Remaster
Dead Rising 4: Special Edition
Earth Defence Force 5
Digimon Story: Hacker's Memory

Nothing that's going to set the charts on fire of course (a lot of western-oriented games on the list), but there are several retail releases, and maybe Yakuza will do okay? Don't really have a good handle on how something like .Hack//G.U. would do nowadays either.
As folks have already pointed out, January's pretty strong with Dissidia and Monster Hunter. Ni no Kuni isn't the spruce goose it is in the west, but is still something.

I mean, it's a very pretty box.

I can't believe they're releasing a special edition console without the game.

Has that ever happened before?

I think there was a 3DS MH bundle with the same thing. And a PS4 DQ Heroes bundle had this too.
I don't know what you're referring to but gaming wise, i remember some Special Edition 3DS with download codes for the games. So it's not the first time.
Yeah but two months before the actual game is released?

RE Star Wars - in 1977 they didn't have enough action figures ready for Christmas, so they sold empty boxes with a voucher to get a figure later when they had manufactured them. Aka to have the ability to sell the item as a Christmas present, despite not having the actual point of the thing yet.

Haha, what? First time i am hearing this and it's hilarious.

Anyway, definitely not the same situation here.

sure, several times.

majora's mask 3ds special edition in the US, for example – https://venturebeat.com/2015/01/14/...launch-day-bundle-with-zelda-majoras-mask-3d/
No, not what I meant.

A special edition console for a game released two months before the game is even out.

Kind of seems like it is?

"Sooooo we don't have anything to sell your for Christmas/Holidays... but how about you buy this to prepare you to play MHW in two months?"

Heck I would buy ask for it for Christmas if I were a huge MH fan lol.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Barring anything in the next few days, I would say PS4's November/December lineup is pretty weak while the January/February lineup is very good.

Sure, I was just asking if it has ever happened before.

It's essentially a sneaky way of getting some MH boost a quarter early.
They mentioned it earlier, but the DQ Heroes special edition metal slime PS4 was the same way.

It launched Dec. 11, 2014 and included a dl voucher for the game which released Feb. 26, 2015. Although I think you could play the game a week earlier than the launch date or something like that with that dl code.

So we know the details for MH World launch- updated guesses at FW/LTD?

I'll take a guess at 750K FW/1.25M LTD.

why won't they launch MHW in December?I mean it will give the ps4 a big holiday and give other January titles room to breath as well,

I think it will sell the same as MH Tri

Ah there you go, pretty much identical situation.
Sneaky either way lol.

I'll go with 800k FW/1,3M LTD for MHW. I feel it'll do better than Tri because the PS4 userbase is likely more receptive to that kind of game.

Seems low

1.3M FW
1.9M LTD
Seems high.

Lol I honestly have no idea. DQ beat most expectations, but that' a traditional console franchise. On the other hand, despite the non-handheld handicap, this is the first generation leap MH has ever seen. It's been in PS2+ tech level for a decade, and it now looks like a massive budget modern game, the leap is huge.

And maybe Capmcom will announce MHP5 January 15 to appease angry investors after a failed quarter lol.

I think 750k FW/1.2M LTD based on just my personal thoughts on the game and my limited knowledge of the Japanese market. I don't think it will outperform DQXI PS4 personally, so these numbers seem reasonable in my eyes.
