For those that still haven't tried it, this good model (that some other games like Killer Instinct followed) exists since the PS3 version, and is also now on PC, X1, and PS4.
You get 4 characters included, most of the single-player, all of the multiplayer, and other characters are put on free rotation every two weeks. You can also buy each character for 4€ or so, and they often put a pack with all the characters on sale, so it's nice if you already know which character you want and don't care about the rest (get the full version otherwise).

Marie Rose Opoona costume coming next month (will need PS+/XBLG to get it, free to get/own otherwise):

This costume also was a preorder bonus for Warriors All-Stars.

I’m never gonna get DOA6 am I? :(
If by the end of the year you haven't had any DoA6 news, throw in the towel.

The DoA5 Battle Royale finals held in mid-December at NEC seem like the best candidate for a new game reveal. That or PSX maybe.

If you see nothing at either of those events though.....

You ain't gonna get it til the cows come home.. apparently.
I was hoping for today's stage event, to give us a surprise announcement of DOA6, but alas... The way things panned out today, no DOA6 in the horizon whatsoever...

this game is heavily underrated, it is one of the best fighting games i have ever played

the gameplay is so damn good, it does not require high skills to do combos and enjoy like MK and Tekken, it's noob-friendly and that is what i want from a fighting game

i really hope they release DoA6 as soon as possible, already bored from Tekken 7

So...DoA6 is never happening, is it. :(

Could they at least update the fucking PC version so I can play online.

I hate this company sometimes.

It is, but to be fair TN isnt helping, although I guess the fanbase spoke when they wanted less fanservice in 5 and everyone complained...

Space Channel 5 x Oopona

I would actually like a SC5 outfit... but please not for Marie!

WELL,

apparently at TGS Hayashi announced that DLC would end in 2017 as the team looks to the future. HOPE AIN'T DEAD YET!

I'd link, but isn't Dualshockers a banned site here?

Not anymore, feel free to link.
Great news if true, we had some hints (not many packs but for all characters, release schedule...) that it'd be the last season pass, nice to see it confirmed.

What does this number tell us though? How many people are actually playing it and have been playing it consistently?

http://steamcharts.com/app/311730

for 10 million downloads I wouldn't say the numbers are very impressive at all

The vast majority of players are on console? I'm not sure what you expected otherwise.

fair enough, but the same can be said of Tekken 7 and SFV, so I'm looking at it in comparison to those on PC which surely have way less downloads but have much better numbers. Was just curious as to how many people are actually playing the game and there doesn't seem to be any other metric aside from steamcharts. Do they ever release numbers that would give some idea as to how many people are playing?

I don't think that a DOA6 is necessary. This is the strongest roster the series has, and the best gameplay to match. Plus, Koei Tecmo seems content on banking off of keeping this game fresh with DLC. Furthermore, there's no way DOA6 is gonna have all the guest characters they tossed in over the years (Virtua Fighter characters, Naotora, Mai Shiranui), and that is a DOA game that just won't be as fun.

Isn't the pc version bad? like is only the ps360 version instead of the PS4/XBO one?

Yup.
The PC version is using the arcade version of the engine (a bit better than the PS3 one), has no online lobbies, ranked is filled with cheaters, no stages were added, and you can't buy costumes one by one. I think most people play it pirated and modded really.
It's still a nice version to play solo and 1v1, but there's no real reason in getting it over the console ones.

Hopefully they'll do a better job next time...

Ah well, here's the story. Hearsay, granted, but nevertheless, encouraging.

Awesome!

Lol downloaded in a few mins, then uninstalled immediately after reading your post. Forgot that there was a reason why I didn't bother installing it in the first place when it was released.

Team Ninja (not Koei Tecmo) just hired a community manager. This person is basically the most well-known competitive DOA player and has been for a good decade or more. Hiring him basically confirms a new DOA will be announced in the near future, otherwise he either has very little to do, or won't be working on a game he knows best.

I expect an announcement as early as PSX and as late as E3.

If by the end of the year you haven't had any DoA6 news, throw in the towel.

There isn't enough media presence to announce DOA6 at the Battle Royal finals. I would be surprised to see it happen there, especially considering how close the finals are to PSX. Would be a misstep to announce at the finals instead of PSX. Plus, Team Ninja seems pretty close to Sony these days. I could easily see DOA6 being PS4 exclusive.

Wait for the last doa tounrey of the year for a hint of DOA6. It was obvious we'd not get DOA6 at TGS.

DOA5 was announced at TGS. It wouldn't have been out of the question to see DOA6 announced at TGS as well.

Agreed. It's incredibly easy to get into. The full roster is packed with fast and fun characters, lots of extra guest characters, and a ton of unlockable outfits. The tag mode is a super fun addition too that I wish more fighters would implement. DoA5 has left me with high hopes/expectations for DoA6.

The reason about the NEC talk for those wondering: https://youtu.be/B4iun48juSA?t=1420
On top of that, nice timing to let pros try directly an early build, like it was the case for DOA5, as well as finishing the whole Battle Royale again.

I really don't see DOA becoming exclusive again when 5 was done to go out from that. Spinoffs are another issue, but KT still prefer most of their games to be multiplat.

Its a fun button mashing fighting game. Bought the 40 dollar version with all the characters and a couple costumes.

Yes. I remember them warning people not to mod the females into completely nude situations... but I mean what did they really expect? I think that’s why they adandoned the PC version. It’s baffling that to own all content for the game it’s well over one thousand dollars, and it’s just costumes like you said. We don’t get the additional stages.

I hope they can continue the deal with the Virtua Fighter characters in the next Dead or Alive honestly, Sega isn’t doing anything with them. They were an awesome addition do the game.

The commentators wouldn't know anything. Tom saying something big is coming is significant, but I also wouldn't expect him to know the marketing schedule a full year in advance. At best I'd say DOA6 is announced at PSX (Dec 9) with a limited playable build at NEC a week later.

Again, there's basically no media presence at NEC, especially compared to the media presence at PSX. It just wouldn't make sense to announce DOA6 at NEC when it's a week after PSX.

As for the game being PS4 exclusive, didn't TN have huge issues making DOA5 run properly on Xbox One? Then you have Dissidia, Nioh and DOAX being PS4 exclusive. There are some other factors that made those first two exclusive, but still. I won't complain at all if DOA6 hits Xbox as well, it just wouldn't surprise me at all to see it PS4-exclusive.

I can agree with the bolded. But it could still work otherwise since DOA doesn't have the star power it once had, yet still has regular appearances in tournaments, and is still respected there. PSX is also a different audience from TGS or E3.

About the exclusive talk, the X1 version was patched if I remember well, and had just the usual issues compared to other PS4 multiplats (lower resolution and some bugs).
Dissidia has always been a playstation exclusive, and is coming after more than a year of arcade exclusivity, Nioh was a special deal similar to Ninja Gaiden back on Xbox, and there was no audience for DOAX (and other japanese niche games) on X1, and didn't leave asia on top of that.
DOA is a classic fighting game, it's really different. There's a market for that on every platform, just like DOA Dimensions was on 3DS and DOA5+ was on Vita. I'd be extremely surprised if it was an exclusive when it's not targeting a really specific audience.

I'm getting excited just by talking about DoA6 and if they announce it at PSX, can't wait for the announcement!

And yeah, announcement at PSX then playable at NEC is a really good idea if they do that.

Why is the Ultimate Content set so expensive? I've been waiting for it to go on 50% sale for months, it's the only thing holding me back getting back into DOA5LR because I want all those unlockables and videos. But I ain't shelling out £68. :(

My favorite fighting game, well deserved.

They need to announce DOA6 though. I've bought every version of the game including hundreds of dollars worth of outfits for my waifus but I can't say DOA5 isn't starting to outstay its welcome. We've been due for a new DOA game for a few years now.

Wait a sec, the Xbox One seriously had problems running DOA5LR, a just sightly enhanced version of last generation's DOA5?
I also wasn't aware that the Xbox One version runs in a lower resolution than on PS4. I thought both are 1080p.
