If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
GTA Online is integral to GTAV they won't bring it to Switch if they can't make money from the Online Mode at the same time.

Switch has a patch size limitation in place as witnessed by NBA Playgrounds.

I feel like if it's a game that Nintendo really wants, they will do what's needed to get it on their platform. I remember an interview with the Rocket League Dev on IGN where Psyonix was still in discussions about brining it to Switch and they asked Nintendo about cross-network play, Nintendo said, “whatever you need”.

Whether GTAV is one of those games that Nintendo really want on their platform, who knows? If it is though, I'm sure the patch size limitation won't be an issue.

I was going to say something like this. Why would they NOT bring GTA V Online if they're releasing GTA V? Doesn't make sense. If people are worried about space, just get an SD card.

Nintendo will do what they have to do in order to get GTA and any other huge 3rd party game on their system. Which is why we have the situation with NBA 2k18. I still think there was something funky going on with NBA Playgrounds and we didn't/don't know the whole story. From my dealings with Nintendo, they seem pretty intent on working with folks...if the request is within' reason.

It's GTAV like you said. Nintendo wants that game on their system. They're not going to put restrictions on them I would think.

And I'm sure thats something that could be relaxed easily enough for bigger publishers

Again, I don't think the argument as that these games won't or can't come, it's just that porting them requires a good deal of work and communication (such as getting permission for certain exemptions like patch sizes) that's outside of the realm of normal/single player ports.

Oh I agree and like I said I could believe it if we found out that the online was the reason GTAV wouldn't come. Just pointing out if the issue is something like file size, or something that should be somewhat easily resolved, I'm sure Nintendo would be willing to work with them to get the game on their platform. Unfortunately, we don't know if file size is the only hang up, if they have the resources to put into supporting another version, etc...

I guess that this "limitation" wouldn't be a thing for the likes of GTA 5 Online or Overwatch, games Nintendo probably would allow very much to get them, like they allowed crossplay for Rocketleague or regular patches for NBA and Rocketleague. I don't think it's the same rules for everyone.

Did you not read the very same game got an exception to allow it to be past the limitation? It's not a hard limit, but a soft one. Exceptions have been and will be given out to those that need them, as witnessed by NBA Playgrounds.

Ding ding! GTAV prints money, Nintendo wants that cut. Also, I think I remember reading Aonuma has played it, though he stopped since it was "too violent" for his tastes, but that could be because of its realistic violence, unlike something similar to Doom where it's demons. That doesn't mean they don't want it on their system. I'm sure Nintendo higher ups that have played it can understand that the world simply loves that game.

And such an exception could be given to GTA Online. I'm saying that such a thing could be an obstacle that needs to be addressed for GTA Online to come to Switch. Not that there is no way to work around it or means to get permission to avoid it. It would be a discussion between the two companies. If Take-Two and Rockstar wanted to bring GTA5 and GTA Online to Switch, then I'm sure Nintendo would have that discussion.

I think the restriction days are over. NBA2K18 has a day one 17GB patch and DQX a day one 26GB patch.

I am sure that the limitations was more about unfinished online than any hardware limitation or such.

Next year when Nintendo is supposed to launch the "proper" online experience/whatever, I am sure that they've done things to ease situations like bigger patches and stuff.

Isn't Dena (or whatever it was) specialized in these things? Or is it strictly mobile side?

All these worries about online should be put on hold until they launch the paid online. Then we'll see if they've made any progress.

Wasn't the story also that these restrictions existed due to some early firmware things that needed ironing out before it could allow for whatever-sized game updates?

As expected. If LA Noire was less than 1080p then fuck the porters.

...that's not how this works.

With regards to analogue triggers, is it possible that Nintendo could release some new Joy Cons that have them? Or are we set for good now.

I think I'll get LA Noire, never played it first time round.

Nintendo has allowed patching since the Wii U days and devs even praised how easy it was to do back then. I own a dozen Switch games that have gotten patches. Are people honestly still living in this world where Nintendo doesn't have the infrastructure to handle frequent patches? Cause that world passed you by years ago.

The NBA Playgrounds issue was related to the patch size being larger than the base game and effectively replacing the game in its entirety. Not the craziest of rules and they've already appeared to have dropped it given Minecraft will have the Better Together update, and Doom and NBA2K have the multiplayer patches.

Patch size limits are a non issue. Doom has a day one 9gb patch. Nba 2k has a huge one.

It's not a big deal. They probably only restrict indie devs so they don't get out of hand. AAA publishers aren't going to even be questioned.

GTA V runs on a ps3 .... it will run easily on a switch

Note that I'm in no way doubting the Switch here, and GTA V can definitely happen, and would/should definitely run better on there than on PS3 or 360. No question.

But somehow your message reminds me of the Switch port of Dragon Quest Heroes I and II: that somehow runs fairly poorly even though it's based on the downgraded PS3 versions of those. Just saying that when a publisher wants to rush things, you'll get shit performance regardless. Not saying Rockstar would do that though.

If take 2 wanted to release a dqh1&2 level port it'd already be out

Even a port of GTAV that looks like the 360/PS3 versions of the game on Switch would do gangbusters. Portable GTAV isn't just an easy sell, it's also a system seller.

Rockstar doesn't have a track record of rushing anything, that's for sure.

I don't know why people still use DQH 1 and 2 as an example of the Switch not being good for porting to. It's a good example of a rushed port but the switch is clearly more capable

Doom's is not a day one patch right? It's DLC

It would likely also have a more solid framerate plus the first person mode of the next-gen versions (I remember hearing that it just needed the extra RAM, and Switch has plenty of that).
