Level-5 announces LBX Armored Girls (PC/mobile), drops pretense of dignity

Precure is an example of this.

I bet the stats are flipped for Inazuma Eleven.

What happened to Megaton Musashi? They had a huge presentation about it over a year ago and we've heard nothing since.

That was always going to be a long ways out, they announced it as their next cross-media franchise, the one that's supposed to follow up Snack World which only just came out.

That came out?

It’s been out here in Japan for a few months. The game is pretty mediocre, and they actually make you play Rock Paper Scissors with NPCs for mission rewards, meaning you sometimes lose out on gear for no good reason.

Not sure if the anime or manga started yet because no one really talks about it lol

The anime started long before the games came out. It's also mediocre.

Another virgin franchise is sacrificed to the waifu volcano and thus defiled forever. As they are lowered into the lava by their parent company so they can be let down one last time, the intense heat makes them scream in pain so loud, their clothes are blown off, leaving behind only their undergarments and their shame (a huge part of the procedural).

As it is written, let thy will be done.

I guess mine was too subtle. :(

In a way, the old audience of the series has grown up so maybe they want to recapture then.

It will bomb miserably anyway lol.

Level-5 just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being a shameless creep. If you disgust someone in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Armored Girls for either system, nor will they purchase any of Level-5's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Level-5 has alienated an entire market with this move.

Level-5, publicly apologize and cancel Armored Girls or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Underrated reference.

Why the fuck does this keep happening to children's games

Strange.

I don't get how this works.

Are these characters usually present in the franchise? Is this trying to cash in on older men having crushes on pre-existing characters in a children's anime at the expense of everything else?

Or is this trying to reboot the franchise as a "sexy" game for people who like robots and ridiculous anime nudity? With new characters and all?

I'm guessing they're turning old robots into the girls from the text?

Both are disturbing but the former disturbs me more tbh.

This is actually kind of the truth.

"The kids only want pokemon. I guess we'll change the format to cater to the male otaku crowd, if it has moe boobs they'll most likely buy it"

On that note, the Pokemon SunMoon anime is pandering to older crowds, too.

Suiren/Lana, the blue haired water trainer, is constantly stripping down on-screen to her generic school swimsuit looking thing.

There's an episode where a bunch of characters just jump into the ocean with clothes on(including a female island kahuna), and Suiren/Lana's the only one to strip down and jump in, lingering camera and all.

There's even episodes where the animation for her seems to improve alongside these sequences, again with lingering camera. And yes, she's under-age.

Although, the newest Pokemon show definitely plays up that waifu card, nearly every archetype is represented in some way and has time with Ash.

At least here, these girls(at least Achilles) appear to be old enough where it's not too bad. Fanservice sells, after all. (Fate Grand Order comes to mind too)

And, doesn't Fire Emblem heroes having the same damaged character art mechanic?

I'm pretty sure I have characters from that game that are in similar states of undress, and some look younger than the youngest looking girl shown for this game so far.

Maybe not to that extent, but very damn close. Especially the beach outfit characters. And the paralogue levels for the beach stuff, whew(Such as Adult Tiki).

As far as I know these will be new characters, humanized versions of the robots (or maybe just regular human girls in lots of armor if they're playing it straight). See Kancolle, Kemono Friends, Touken Ranbu, etc. The original games featured like 12 year olds fighting an evil terrorist organization with their actual tiny battle robot toys.

Old series aimed for the attention of kids, this one is aiming at a higher age bracket. I hope.

Are these characters usually present in the franchise?

No, the franchise is about children battling with miniature plastic model robots.

This is what the blond girl's design is based off:

They just taking the armor designs of existing robots and slap them on some generic anime characters.

It's not a reboot either, they're just taking the license and moe-fy the robots to appeal to a set audience who are into the whole female personafied representation of non living characters.

I have only played the first game that was lucky to have been localised, and the trailer for this seems to have absolutely nothing to do with it.

Thanks for clearing that up!

So it's sexualizing the robots. Mixing older nerd interest in kids' robots with the perception that people (game buying otaku) would be happier if everything under the sun were a half-naked, embarrassed moe girl.

Including kids' robots.

I don't want to fuck all my nerdy pastimes tbh.

I am so fucking sick of the generic flat anime style that permeates these games. The faces all look the same, the armor all looks the same, the colors all look the same.

If you're going to go for smut, at least go for a visually interesting or impressive style like Dragon's Crown.

If you don't care, why post?

Seeing people offended over something so benign offended me. There's real issues to worry about, like the three hurricanes, the fact that we're destroying our planet and running out of food and access to clean water, or even the persistent problem of homelessness, and that's just referring to issues on the grand scale and not referring to issues that affect human rights both in the US and abroad.

A game having sexualized women, is imo, not an issue, ever. We are animals, we have sex drives, we have sex appeal, there's no issue here, bar the fact that it's a spin-off of a children's IP, which isn't even really an issue.

I get you. Concern is like quest list in RPG, we can only take one at a time.

Worry about the big things, guys, y'all doing it wrong!

Better stop posting on the internet in general. Who has time to complain about 30 FPS locked games and shitty ports, Puerto Rico has no electricity!

Oh for fuck's sake, there's enough hours in the day to worry about two things at once. That's literally the lamest defense for this ever. Literally a, "won't somebody think of the children" paired with an, "I don't think it's a problem so it's not a problem regardless of what anyone else says" defense.

That's too hard.

Seriously though, imagine if there was a game out there that was both fun to play and had interesting fanservice that isn't, "the boobs move all weird!!!!!"

I'd play that game. Hell I did play that game, it's called Dragon's Crown. It's called all the Vanillaware games.

Whatever.

If this is what gets them the funding to make more stuff like Ni No Kuni then I say bring it on. Suck those otaku dry.

You should alert the mods so they can shut down gaming side.

Ah! The good ol' "don't complain, there are starving children in Africa" argument something I hadn't seen since the worse days of Gamergate.

Vanillaware has such a unique style that oozes out of their artwork.

The art in the OP feels like it could have come from any of a thousand different sources. It's not just fanservice. It's cheap fanservice.

We are animals

We are also consumers with brains capable of critical thought, miraculously able to analyze the media we enjoy and come to conclusions about what they represent as art and as a reflection of society's values. That's why we discuss things. You're allowed to indulge in this bottom of the barrel fetish bait all you want, we don't ultimately control how you spend your money. We're likewise allowed to conclude that it's pandering nonsense designed to sucker people in with salacious imagery.
