No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again revealed (Switch, UE4)

I think it would be too late to add a Shovel Knight world at this stage, seeing as how they came up with a pretty specific number of levels already, and I'd imagine they already settled on what they would be.

It may be more feasible to see Shovel Knight as a cameo or bonus boss, maybe with a nudge and a wink to how he already has an Amiibo and Travis doesn't, which infuriates the latter.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
The games never really used too many inputs. If the wiimote had a stick you probably could've played the games with 1 wiimote (they'd have to change the finishers that require 2 controllers though)

Hopefully we get a demo by sometime next year showing us how it incorporates both the traditional NMH gameplay and indie collaborations. It'd be really cool if it had NMH gameplay featuring themes of the indie games and then maybe a small part actually developed by them.

In the stream Suda was asking for more indie developers to get involved, I doubt they've settled on much yet.

This went from a nothing week for which I had NO expectations to THE week where No More Heroes 3 was announced, and it keeps getting better. Amazing.

I wonder how the regular NMH gameplay will factor into this. It sounds like it's going to be different if Suda wants the game to be played with one Joycon.

He was just joking so he could say Travis in Smash Bros lol

They game might not come out til Fall next year thats over a year away

Do you know how easy it is to create a world in Unreal engine 4, we have people making full Zelda worlds in it and they are prob just one person, this is a full dev team, the core gameplay and story is most likely already set, they are now just gonna build all the Indie game worlds to finish and finish things up.

Reposting in this thread but the version of the trailer that's on the game's website has much better audio mixing and also has different (more vulgar) dialogue from Travis. You can clearly hear it isn't Robin Atkin Downes voicing him anymore.

http://tsanmh.com/

PAX Trailer:
"Now you're screwed, old man."
"Now you're just gonna confuse people, they need to know about the most hardcore assassin in video games!"
"Nice work, big man(?)"

Website Trailer:
"You really fucked up now, old man."
"Quit making this shit confusing. The players need to know about the most bad ass assassin in video games!"
"Son of a bitch! Nice work, dickhead."

Eh? I thought the one from the official website was Robin Atkin Downes? The "You've really fucked up now, old man" line gives it away.

The audio is still mixed rather too-infavor-of-the-music.

So if Shovel Knight is confirmed for No More Heroes

Is it possible for the Nintendo system versions of Shovel Knight to get a crossover fight like the equivalents of Kratos and Battletoads with Travis Touchdown? Gain a unique armor set allowing you to use a beam shovel with some NMH moves and the slot machine dark side mode.

I dunno if it is Robin Atkin Downes, but if it ain't, the replacement they got is *spot on* inflection wise, he talks just like you expect Travis to talk.

Yeah I didn't even consider it being a new voice actor until people on here started saying it was...

He's either incredible or Downes, but I'm not sure. He sounds a little off, and he still sounded kind of like Travis in Metal Gear Solid V. (Downes voiced Kaz Miller.)

GameXplain just did a video interview with Suda 51 about Travis Strikes Again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrCyhB0WB-A

A few interesting tidbits:
- Suda 51 confirms classic 3D beam katana gameplay for the game...
- ...but he says it's not a sequel per se, more of a new adventure, hence the title
- the indie collaborations might not necessarily involve entire levels themed after specific games. He's a bit vague about it, but Travis will be wearing shirts themed after each game. My immediate speculation is gameplay twists/powers derived from the mechanics of those games, but who knows.

Most interestingly, the very end of the interview gives us this: GameXplain asks Suda if we can expect some kind of co-op gameplay since both Travis and Badman are sucked into the DeathDrive and you have two Joy-Cons. His reaction to the question basically confirms it. He says 「おっ、すごい。ちょっと、まだナイショなんですけど、まあ、Secret……バレてる感じはするけど、まだSecret。」 , which translates to "Woah, incredible! It's still a secret... I have a feeling the cat's out of the bag already though."

From his cool character-focused introduction, to going toe-to-toe with Travis, it was definitely suggestive of this new guy being a main - likely playable - character. Co-op is definitely some icing on this cake!

I just assumed he was like the guy in the teaser for the first game. A throw away character that was only in the intro...
Interesting.

I'm still holding out hope that co-op is actually with Shinobu, but yeah. It definitely sounds like it's happening based on Suda's reaction, & with Bad Man due to him actually being in the Death Drive.

Here is about the clearest explanation on how NMH Switch works as far as Travis going in the video game worlds

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/20...ting_indies_and_collecting_zeldas_korok_seeds

"NL: Will gameplay reflect the indie games that appear in Travis Strikes Again, or will gameplay be in the style of early No More Heroes titles?

S: One thing that a lot of people seem to misunderstand is that there are definitely games inside this game, but they're not actually the indie games that I'm collaborating with. They're actually completely original games that exist in the world of No More Heroes, but they're not existing games in the real world. In Travis Strikes Again, there is a game console called the Death Drive MK-II that uses these objects that we are calling Tiger Balls as games rather than cartridges or discs. There are six of these games that exist in the world.
For more backstory, the Death Drive MK-II was originally created by a character named Dr. Juvenile who works for a company called Hazure. She created this console and these games, and the console was announced but never actually put on sale because it turned out to be super-dangerous. The reason is because people who played this console ended up getting sucked into the world of the game they were playing and dying. There are six of these games that exist, and there is an urban legend – that Travis is trying to find out whether or not is true – that if you collect and clear all six of the games that exist, a tiger god will come down and grant you one wish. Travis is trying to work out whether or not that's true, so he has to collect all of the games and beat them all to see if this console and the god that is attached to it will actually come down and grant his wish.
As for the games that you play, the fundamental gameplay for each game is pretty much the same. The genre of each game is different, but the fundamental gameplay is the same. The games that Travis plays in the game actually have nothing to do with the indie games themselves. The indie game collaboration is basically what we're referring to as the ”t-shirt collaboration." The indie games that I've been going around and collecting to collaborate with, they're going to be featured on Travis's t-shirts. At this point there are 15 games, and Travis will have as many t-shirts that you can switch back and forth for however many games I'm able to collect before the game goes on sale.

NL: In previous No More Heroes games, each boss fight felt unique based on the various assassins that you came in contact with. Can we expect something similar with the bosses in Travis Strikes Again? If so, how might those play?

S: There are six different games that are going to appear in this game, so at the very least there will be six very different, really unique boss fights. The art and general aesthetic of the game is going to be really awesome, so I want everyone to look forward to that."

It was Baker from Nintendo in that Indie Direct that confused everybody, he prob thought you went in the Indie games that Suda is colabing with and said thats what the game is about.

Looks like Suda has 15 Indies on board for shirts in the game but will get as many as he can get.

Travis is always the "loser" in these kind of games. I can totally see Badman getting the wish and
bringing back his daughter
. Which would be awesome.

Also, Suda's description of Badman from Destructoid's interview is fucking great

"Ah, yes. Beer." Suda commented. "[Badman] was originally a Major League Baseball player. He played for the Astros. Why the Astros? I don't know, he just played for the Astros. He was a really heavy drinker and he used to get shitfaced during the games. That happened like a few dozen times too often. He'd get really drunk during the games and he ended up getting cut from the team. So yeah, he carries beer with him."

That... makes a lot of sense. Why tease Bad Gorl if they don't plan on bringing her back? She's no Speed Buster, but I'm fine with them going full comic book to revive old antagonists, & Bad Girl worked as a "this is the route the protagonist is going down... if they also dressed like a child" style villain.

Maybe the t-shirts could change Travis' weapon. Default white shirt is his normal laser sword, SK shirt is a shovel (or a laser shovel if you want to go that route), HM shirt is a baseball bat/axe/Tony's claws, etc.

Yeah, this sounds way better than how it was presented before. Hopefully they actually pull off the multiple genre thing this time since they totally botched thier previous attempt on NMH2. If they can do that and get Downes back this could be amazing.

Suda hints at co-op and Badman being playable again

“As far as what’s going to happen with the other Joy-Con, at this point technically it’s still a secret. [We’re] going to be releasing information at some point in the future, [but] as you can see, there are ... two main characters, so draw your own conclusions, if you want.”

I think Badman is going to be Travis partner is the game instead of a villain

Haha, I love how Badman changed careers from baseball player to assassin. If he really is a second playable character, as is sounding more and more the case, I look forward to playing as him!

Looks amazing but you would think there would/will be a PS4 Port given the Sales numbers of the Past Titles

What?

The first game on Wii was his best selling game at the time, prob still one of his top best selling games.

The 2nd one sold solid too for a niche game

Its always been an exclusive to Nintendo series, the ports of 2 Suda had nothing to do with them.

Plus Nintendo put him up on stage at the Switch reveal and then puts him in their Nintendo Direct, its not going to Playstation 4.

Didnt it always sold better on the wii and also the ps3 port was pure garbage and not sanctioned by Suda himself?

Seems Suda wants to keep NMH a nintendo game so Travis gets a bigger chance for the next smash (he said that he wanted travis is smash if possible).

It had a post-game mode where you fought them in a generic arena. It really sucked.

That entire port was poor. I bought it at launch and couldn't even finish it. Maybe if I had a MOVE it would have been better but with a standard controller it was just boring to play.
