What technical advancements would you like to see in gaming?

Aside from 1080p 60fps, what technical advancements would you like to see standardized across the board?

Personally, I would like to see loading screens to go away. I would like for every company to pull a Jak and Daxter on every game to keep loading behind the scenes and away from the core experience. It's 2017 and we're still waiting absurdly long times (super short in comparison to what they used to be, but still lengthy) for games to load. Developers should find a way to mask the loading behind interactive sequences or something. Shooters often use cutscenes as loading breaks for "story" development but not every game has that luxury.

The most recent culprit of this was ReCore. I legit couldn't get through the game because of the amount of loading I had to sit through so I dropped it. I thought MGS4 was bad, but holy crap, ReCore's loading screens drove me nuts.

What would you guys like to see improved on the technical side of things?

Putting the ridiculous amount of available processing power towards something like game systems, simulations, etc. For example, Shadow of War looks really awesome with the huge battles as you storm keeps with an army of allies at your side. So many game worlds are beautiful to look at but are mostly static environments. There's a sort of temporary nature to the way a lot of games feel, e.g. bullet casings disappear, bullet hole / blood decals fade out, ragdoll'd bodies dissolve or the physics are turned off. I understand the technical reasons for these things, but it's still a bummer.

I always love it when I find a game that lets you permanently (or semi-permanently) affect or modify the environments in a way that feels like it's a place you are actually changing.

UI support for arbitrary resolution in all games.
It's downright annoying how you can't really downsample many of PS360 generation games, because the UI/Subtitles are unreadable at anything higher than 1080p (or, shudder, 720p).

Better AI. Halo, Half Life, and Fear had some of AI in the FPS genre. The AI in Halo isn't as good as it used to be and the other two franchises no longer exist. I'd like to see more games pick up where these left off.

I think I've had enough of graphics..as far as trying to push the bar of realism and whatnot. I like good graphics as much as the next person but they are subjective. (My favorite graphic style is 2D, anyway) I wanna see more strides in like physics and such.

Unfortunately, it probably won't be some ages until we get what I'm looking for. Completely DYNAMIC destructable environments without it being "staged" and limited to the amount of damage and area on screen

Dynamic water animation

Better clothing physics and animation, instead of guys wearing suits looking like they are bulky

Visuals today (at least in AAA gaming) are really really fucking good, it's time for the devs to care about AI again, It's been far too long since anyone gave a fuck.

Powerful CPU

60 FPS

Better AI

More enemies and less empty worlds

Console CPU upgrades to Zen will help PC games as well

Perfecting Wii's pointer style aiming. I'd love to have a more accurate version of that which doesn't use the sensor bar or require constant readjustment.

Asset streaming/draw distance improvements

I hate riding a horse/car through Skyrim/GTA and stuff looks Amazing, but then objects still pop in, or the LoD pop is noticeable. Seems like there could be a better way

Water? Your answer is better looking water?

Water? Your answer is better looking water?

Well more like better water physics that arent scripted. Pretty much the main thing I want to see PERIOD is better physics for everything but water is definitely one major standout

A cloud based animation/inverse kinematics/collision system to simulate crowd behavior so MMO town stop looking like shit.

No more clipping >_>
Wow, that's a big one.

Generalised cross-game reusable personnalisation systems. Semi-standardised as some games will still want to have their own "flavor" parameters.

Semi-automated robot voice-acting. Voice intonation given by the writer or one single actor interchangeably, but final voiceover done by machine. Or a mix of pre-recorded and generated voice acting. The goal is for characters to have custom speech (player input?) in addition to allowing writers to change dialog later into development.

All preferably open-source.

Better AI. And not just to make the game challenging (like an adaptive AI that learns how to counter you as you play) but to make NPCs more believable.

Better battery life
More immersive sound design
Gyro aiming as optional feature in every game with dual-analog aiming
More proficiently directed scenes in games where cinematic storytelling matters (this requires technical expertise, so I count it)
Less exposition/dialogue-driven stories and more focus on interactive elements of video game craft that do their own storytelling (likewise, requires good use of available tech)
Fewer games where you're in a modestly sized urban environment but there are almost no people and/or you can't enter 99% of the buildings

Every game playable natively on both my TV and my portable device

More environmental destruction and persistence. By persistence I mean stuff like shell casings, bullet holes, blood and guts, rubble, etc doesn't magically disappear after 30 seconds. Oh yeah and better AI.

A more realistic world and I don't mean graphics.

Think about the destiny world. Looks nice but you can't open doors, you can't go explore areas. I found a door that is open, you can see stuff in there, and in real life you could pry it open with how open it was in have, but nope, you need to go all the way around.

I want a game world to act like what we expect it to or it's jarring and takes you out it.

Controllers that make use of more than just the thumbs and index finger and occasionally the middle finger.

A gamepad control scheme for First person shooters pretty much makes you choose between the thumb controlling an anolugue stick or the 4 face buttons. What if your pinkie and ring finger could also be if use? Maybe some paddle buttons underneath?

More stuff like Left 4 Dead's AI Director in single-player games to add replayability.

One of my greatest gaming wishes is for a GM/DM style AI. The objective of the developers would then shift from creating a 'main story' to creating a world with 'living' NPCs that the AI uses to craft campaigns from and respond to the players appropriately to how they interact.

I'd like to see a way for the workload of games to be more streamlined, especially for animations. Being able to quickly and easily have an engine that you can get to pump out fluid/life-like animation work without a ton of work needed by animators to do it. So smaller dev teams could make use of better all around animations without having to have a huge animation team or budget to do it.

Imagine say, if we could get Uncharted level of animation detail into most games, even indie games.

As far as something else, better AI. Basically take Middle Earth's "Nemesis" system and be able to place it on all npc's, not just specific ones, where enemies can remember you, learn how you fight, change tactics accordingly and grow throughout a game as the AI adapts.

Physics wise, I'd love to see a full blown physics system that doesn't eat up a ton of power to do it. Being able to simulate everything from a characters hair, to their clothing, to gameplay elements, etc.

Even if it's just one thing I wish more games would simulate cloth better and more often. Watching the RDR 2 trailer and seeing how the clothing just unnaturally "bends" and moves made me wish for this even more.

I mean Fight Night did this better then most new games and that was over a decade ago...

In game gfx to look like this https://youtu.be/DYUUAz3ycQ0

A technology that allows us players to be the voice actors in some first person games (Non VR or VR.) Also a dialogue system that makes AI characters respond to it super naturally. You can actually trigger “game over” if you don’t try pushing the story forward based on your attitude.

Charging software embedded in new systems that charges controllers if you game close enough to it. Cable cords no longer necessary, but still available if people want to use them.

New game rental over PSN with the option to buy at a cheaper price after completion.

Selling games to friends over PSN. A 50/50 resell split between the developer and the owner of game.

Crowdfunding over game networks. If a developer announces he’s bringing their name to whatever platform. Gamers can use PSN / XBL cards fund projects and receive special rewards. With a digital receipt, If there is any problems with the project donators can ask for a one time refund. One refund per game.

This is just some ideas of popped in my head.
