SNES Mini Classic Hacking | More games, more borders, more gooder.

Is there an easy way to sort game by system? Or do I need to FTP into the console to do that?

What about adding scanlines to any games (fba, snes) running through retroarch?

Anyone have trouble installing the drivers? I can't get mine to sync anymore to add games. And how do you turn off the Konami code? Since I put retroarch on mine, I suddenly have this Konami code password (when I connect to TV and turn on), it's fucking annoying.

Is the dump file unique to each console somehow? (ie somebody else's file wouldn't work on your snes classic).

Or is it just that it's not legal to get the file from somebody else? That seems kind of strange seeing that you own the device. It's not like it's illegal to borrow somebody else's software installation CDs if you're going to register the software with a key you own. But maybe not the best analogy...

What did you do? Works great for me and others at reddit and Github.

If you haven't done much of this yet, read the OP first so you have an idea of how everything works. You need to overmount the file /usr/bin/clover-canoe-shvc. Make a copy of it onto your computer, then make a text file named something like p0202_filter with two lines--
Code:
overmount /usr/bin/clover-canoe-shvc
and a blank line underneath. Put the file you created in /var/lib/hakchi/rootfs/etc/preinit.d/

Now, edit your copy of clover-canoe-shvc based on how you want your filters to behave. There are three relevant lines here.
Code:
keep-aspect-ratio) options="$options -filter 1 -magfilter X" ;; //4:3 mode
pixel-perfect) options="$options -filter 1 --pixel-perfect" ;;
crt-filter) options="$options -filter 2 -magfilter X" ;;

-magfilter is what controls the display filter. Set it to 3 to disable the bilinear filter, or set it to 2 to enable the horizontal-only linear filter.

-filter controls the scanline filter. You can turn it on by setting it to 2, for example if you want to use scanlines in pixel perfect mode as well. Or you can set it to 1 to get the blur filter without any scanlines.

After you set it up how you like, copy that file to /var/lib/hakchi/rootfs/usr/bin/. After you copy it, you may need to adjust the permissions for the file-- if you're using WinSCP (you probably should), right click on the file on the SNES, click properties, and checkmark all of the permissions.

That. It didn't do anything. At all.

Yeah this, I added this to my SNES Mini earlier and played through the prologue. Seemed to be fine.

You need to use Retroarch for it to work though. Doesn't boot otherwise as far as I'm aware.

I have FE Mystery of the Emblem, Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia all patched in English working natively on the SNES Mini emulator, not Retroarch.

I played all of them until the first battle and all conversations, menus and commands were in English. The last two had some in-graphics in Japanese like the title screen but nothing major.

Maybe look for another ROM?

when installing the driver, is it normal for the DOS window to say it is installing the NES mini driver? Selected the SNES classic during setup and dumped/updated/synced fine.

didn't put many roms on in the end. Just went through my box in the loft and there were only about 10 that weren't already on the console.

Gonna ask again since I really want it and am no good at photoshop.

Can anyone make this border for Chrono Trigger?

Maybe in black/white and a little blurred as the Giantbomb guys had for their endurance run? See here:

Maturity, bitches.
So, as a result of slowly making PAL box art of each of the built-in games, I've learnt that pretty much all the scans found online are bad.

As a result, I've basically found it easier to remake most of them from scratch. Although this basically means I've been redoing the ones I've already done.

I don’t think it’s uniquely unique, but there are a bunch of different ones, so that you can’t just install any dump file and call it a day.

Distribution of copyrighted material is illegal, so just keep to your own kernel :p

You could just put the platform name in front of the title. That way, games will be sorted by system when you sort the menu by title.

Alright, finished with mine. Not gonna mess with it any further. I hand-sized each of the boxes, color-corrected everything, and tested every single game. It's organized, clean, and I love it.

what the??

nes, gameboy advance and sega games?

and can someone linkthe video again?

and maybe put it in the OT!?
thanks

The image you supply and the GiantBomb ones don't quite match. I had a quick look, but note the position of Lucca in the GB one and where she is in the image. In the colour image she's much closer to that machine to her right, and lower down. I could maybe knock something similar up, but it might not have Lucca in the frame due to aspect ratio.. or we could ignore aspect ratio.. It's tricky. I'll have a look.

Edit: Okay, I can definitely do something here.

I think it would look nice if you just deleted the selection boxes altogether. You can do that by editing /usr/share/ui/sprites/packed.png. I did it anyway, because I think they are rather ugly to begin with.

Gotta ask, how did you change the arrow in the thumbnails? I'm looking to do something similar to what you've done and that's the only thing I'm missing! :D

If you just want scanlines without the blur filter, add the following in the global command line box:

-filter 2 -magfilter 0

Works great.

I can confirm that the command line works as intended. It's a thing of beauty!

Wait.. can you use GBA/NES/Mega Drive etc roms in the default SNES mini shell or do you have a themed version of retroarch?

Yeah I see some weird aspect ratio issues, but it would be awesome if you are able to get it right. Id love to play with such a border thats similar to the GB one.

Thanks so much for all the effort!

What is the correct value for magfilter? I read this enables the bilinear filter, which is better than the standard CRT blur. However on reddit and here i seeing conflicting values to enable it. Is it 0,1,2 or 3?

Reddit user PlayingKarrde has created a gallery of square boxes that fill the whole selection area, instead of leaving empty space above and below it.

They look really good! They are a compromise between the Switch-like icons that were posted earlier in this thread and the traditional rectangular boxes :) There's a template PNG included in the download, so you can create your own boxes. I think this is the route I'm going to go once I get to customizing my icons ;)

Thats a cool background.. i will follow your tutorial from the op tonight when I get home.. the only reason is i want that awesome chrono trigger border you made :D.

I think the USA boxart for Prince of Persia is atrocious....

So I remade a version using the PAL/JPN coverart for the game. Sorry about the limited source material but use if you so desire...

so if a game does not run properly, I just have to drag the retroarch mod to to the hackchi window first, then, for the said game, simply type --retroarch (without the ") in the "argument de ligne de commande " section? Am I right? I'm sorry I'm a layman

does the retroarch mod sort the issues encountered by secret of mana 2, treasure of the rodras and terranigma?

and does the retroarch mod kill the rewind feature for all the games or just for those using it?

I have a quick question for you guys. Hakchi is still hanging for me at the "waiting for your nes/snes.." part when trying to put games on the machine.

Are you guys using the stock USB/Mini-USB cable the comes with the Classic to connect to your PC, or are you using a different cable?

Same cable that comes with the console.

How are you turning on your SNES Mini? After you've haxed the console and are at the Sync games stage you don't need to turn it on holding the reset button, turn it on normally (red light) and hakchi should kick in automatically.

After updating to 2.2, I seem to be getting a long delay after resetting and going back to the menu. The music starts instantly, but the screen is frozen for about 5 seconds. Didn't get that on rc4 - any ideas what might be causing it?

Yeah, it's on as normal. Red light is on, and it's playing on the TV. It shows up in the device manager for Windows. But, it doesn't show a green light in hakchi.
