NFL owners to meet, anthem rules "significant part of discussion"

This according to Charles Robinson, Senior NFL reporter for Yahoo.

Y’all might want to strike the bit about being “the land of the free” from your anthem while you’re at it.

If they say that clubs cannot sanction players - effectively codifying the protest it as entirely legitimate - won't that rob the action of much of its potency?

Free speech is not without consequences. That being said, I thought Goodell had issued something along the lines of no discipline and "freedom to exercise constitutional rights?"

They should roll things back to pre-9/11 and leave the teams in the locker rooms for the anthem. Can't protest the anthem if you're not there for the anthem.

Ha! Watch what happens when you attempt to stop players from expressing themselves.

It has been said a million times already. This isn't about the flag/troops/anthem. I hope the players continue to kneel, fuck the owners and all of the suits who have a problem with it.

I can't imagine what it feels like to be a player in the spotlight every week having to deal with this shit. Unbelievable.

I need to do some research on the player's association. Who is in charge? I wonder, if they try to implement a rule for this, if a strike would be possible.

This will at least take a little longer to completely erase the sport.

CTE will only diminish the NFL, and it will take a long time for the effects to be felt. It only started being widely talked about what, 3, 4 years ago?

CTE's damage will be in terms of fewer families allowing their children to play football, but the more salient issue here is that there's likely to be a strike by 2020 when the next NFL/PA contract runs out.

If they force players to stand we may see the biggest mass walk off in NFL history and that would be even greater to see conservatives lose their shit

I'd say just go back to the way it was. Players just stay inside for the anthem.

This.

But I doubt this will happen now, apparently the military pays the NFL for it so the players look more patriotic... but them protesting injustice IS patriotic...

The problem here for the NFL is that any action that's not "know your place Black athletes" is gonna be seen as weak and submissive to the idiots that are getting angry about this in the first place.

Not a chance this happens.
Idk, I think it might.

League just wants this story to go away. But enforcing players to stand or going about it that way I think is just going to cause a huge mess and drag the controversy on even longer.

They’ll probably try disciplining the players first but if it keeps the story going they might just stop doing it all together so there’s nothing to protest

They ban the knee, burn a flag on the field. This has never been about the fucking anthem, the flag, veterans, etc. This has been about the injustice of black lives being unjustly taken by law enforcement with zero repercussions. But if these fuckers really want to change the narrative that badly, burn their fucking idolatry right in their faces.

I love how the irony of forcing players to stand and respect an anthem that preaches "freedom" is completely lost on those racist old fucks and the dipshits that support them.

What are they gonna do

people at large have the ability to do lots of things. like focus on the fact that football is turning players (e.g. aaron hernandez) into actual, literal killers instead of players not paying tribute to the flag

but i guess that's not the narrative that trump is spoonfeeding them

"Should we get punish these people for not correctly participating in the ceremony where 70,000 people are required to stand, turn to look at a large piece of cloth, put their hands on their hearts and sing a song?"

That's some goofy ass North Korea shit.

They try and force players to stand and the next collective bargaining agreement will just have one more issue that will cause a stoppage. It's like these owners don't think the players are about to demand some ish for once. They see the other leagues and how they getting paid...whew.

Yeah, I imagine all the dudes who aren't sure whether they'll be able to walk or function mentally when they retire in their early 30s are feeling a certain way when they look at Westbrook's contract.

The people who are upset about the protest would be exponentially more upset if the anthem was done away with entirely.

That wouldn't solve the problem, it would create a worse one.

Sponsors, ticket holders, and the owners relationship with their Tax Cut in chief is gonna make the owners come down hard on the players.

The problem with that line of thinking is that the NFLPA is one of the worst sports unions out there.
