Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Vr sections for the win! Not only because I have one and it’s fun but because of the salt it brings that Sony wants to support a platform while we yell about the vita 😭

I'm expecting a solid but unspectacular show from PGW.

- God of War gameplay and perhaps release date
- Detroit release window
- Dreams re-reveal hopefully with a beta date
- Wild update... still no release window
- A reminder that GT Sport is out
- Sony London VR game announced
- Sony Manchester VR game announced
- Perhaps a new game or two from Xdev. No idea what they could be though. Maybe VR, maybe PlayLink, maybe AA.

Are the GoW predictions for PGX because of GoW having a history of under-performing in Europe, so they'd want to demo it at PGX for more interest?

Could happen, but they've barely shown off the game. I doubt we'll get anything

They had stuff like Horizon at PGW in 2015. I think they'll want to incorporate games like GoW and Spider-Man even if they are saving details for PSX.

And yeah, since they claim the change was partially because of Europe, it would make sense to have it there in some shape or form.

I hope there are more regular new games than that.
VR sections are terrible. If anything is pre-show material it's VR stuff imo. I won't get to watch PGW live because of work, so at least it's easy to skip.

Give PSVR the Vita treatment? May as well just kill it off at that point. I don't have a PSVR headset but I think it's important to include it in their shows.

I will say that they need to do a much better job showing it off than they did at E3 though. Grouping all the VR games into a solid block only drags the show down for people with no interest in VR, so they should spread the VR games out throughout the show instead.

There is Brazil Game Show this week.
Kojima wil be there.

yep!

Press day is tomorrow, and first party wise I'll be playing some Detroit and getting a Days Gone behind closed doors presentation (and maybe a Detroit one too). Was hoping for something God Of War but its not happening

I’d be fine with killing it. Spreading the vr section would be terrible because instead of skipping one big chunk I’d have to skip several small ones.

There are other people who watch the show just for VR portion, because they invested $400+ on the system. Asking Sony to kill off the VR portion is a slap to face of the fanbase. Like it or not, VR is here to stay. The whole point of the conference is to showcase games, not iust the ones that are catered to you.

I am fully convinced that PGW will have a big focus on PSVR and PlayLink games

Their European internal studios and partners are the ones pushing software for these platforms really heavily, so its natural that they will have a big presence there

Thats also why I think more traditional software announcements will be held for PSX

PSVR games should be sprinkled throughout. And treated less like a segment and more like, "isn't this a cool game you want to pick up?"

That was the issue with E3. Good idea to focus on VR. Just poorly executed.

Horizon is European made though. I know technically it means nothing because any studio can get a trailer together for an overseas conference but it was Guerrilla's most local event and they didn't go to PSX afterwards.

Sure, if you want to significantly hurt the company and brand. Selling over a million people a $400 peripheral and then killing it a year later would be a monumental fuck up.

Yet Uncharted 4 was shown at E3, PGW, TGS and PSX in 2015. While Horizon was shown at E3, PS Meeting, TGS and PSX in 2016.

I think Sony pretty obviously have different policies for showing games based on how far they're away from release. And since God of War and Spider-Man are meant to be out in the next 9 months, it makes sense for them to start ramping up their promotion.

Plus, as has been mentioned a few times, Sony really wants God of War to be a hit in Europe, so it makes sense to focus on it there.

Hm, that is true. My expectations are low but I'll be happy if I'm wrong. If God of War is March I do think a release date will be confirmed before December which would leave PGW or a blog post...

Yeah that might be too early for me. When I have to get up that early I never sleep well. I only end up getting like 3-4 hours of sleep and I'm unable to fall back to sleep. I'll be awake and watch the press conference live, but I'll feel like shit the entire day until I take my nightly medication that lets me fall asleep. Anything that starts between 5-9am (like Nintendo's E3 Directs) I just usually watch when I get up.

I'm going to be purchasing a PSVR this holiday season. I already have RE7 and will be purchasing The Inpatient (main reason I'm getting one) are there any other must have games I need to purchase?

If you haven't played Thumper, it's on a whole other level when played in VR.

Supermassive’s other title - Rush of Blood is also meant to be good, don’t have VR myself tho... yet.

Also tempted to pick it up for ‘The Inpatient’.

Expecting God of War and Detroit: Become Human gameplay videos and release dates at PGW. Also expecting a blowout for Dreams with an early 2018 release date for the Beta.

If they can/want to neatly space out the games: Detroit in February, GoW in March, Dreams in April, RDR2 in May, Spider-Man in June. That'd be one hell of a first half of the year!

SOTC is likely releasing in the first half based on what Shawn Layden said last year. No word on Detroit yet besides 2018 in general.

Hard to Kill
I seriously doubt that it'll be a dud, but you're right and I'll be buying the PSVR after the game launches anyways. If it sucks I'll skip it and consider waiting on the PSVR purchase.

Thanks for the recommendation. Will add it to my list.

I don't know what you guys were talking about but I personnally were reeally bored with Thumpert when playing without VRT whereas in VR it felt lika a LSD trip.
My advice ... try some weede or shrooms before but never alcohol you'll fly in another world.

Superhot

I also can confirm Rush of Blood is totally worth it.

REZ Infinite is good but it makes me nauseous.

Thumper is also good and a better experience than non-VR, but is not a crazy VR experience as RE7 and Superhot are.

There's a Neogaf thread that deals exclusively with VR games and you can get great recommendations there :)

Edit: Damn, I forgot Farpoint. Also totally worth it if you can get it with the Bundle

After watching the first season of Westworld, I'm more hyped for Detroit: Becoming Human!

I don't expect Detroit to be as intelligent and interwoven, but the themes are similar and now I can't wait to see what happens in that world!
