An important statement from Naughty Dog

https://www.naughtydog.com/blog/an_important_statement_from_naughty_dog

We have recently read on social media that an ex-employee of Naughty Dog, Dave Ballard, claims he was sexually harassed when he worked at Naughty Dog. We have not found any evidence of having received allegations from Mr. Ballard that he was harassed in any way at Naughty Dog or Sony Interactive Entertainment. Harassment and inappropriate conduct have no place at Naughty Dog and Sony Interactive Entertainment. We have taken and always will take reports of sexual harassment and other workplace grievances very seriously. We value every single person who works at Naughty Dog and Sony interactive Entertainment. It is of utmost importance to us that we maintain a safe, productive workplace environment that allows us all to channel our shared passion for making games.

Riiiiiight. Yet multiple other people have said the same thing in response to David. They're lying, right?

So they don’t have any records of complaints?

Wtf is going on here? Did someone at hr sweep things under the rug?

So they're denying it because there are no evidence right now. Which put the ball back at the accuser court. I hope David has some evidence of all this. Then ND and Sony going to have to explain why they just lied.

You know, ND is a pretty big company, and Sony is even bigger.
It might be possible, for ND at least, that they really didn't had any clues.

Proving or disproving harrassment is something that is really hard, because most of the time, there just isn't any evidence.

Why would Ballard lie? And why would another claim they were also harassed at ND?

I choose to always trust the victim in cases like this, in which is one's word against another's.. Let's wait and see if either side comes with actual hard proof.

Surly the accuser could provide the evidence of his complaint? There must have been some sort of email correspondence he had saved.

I'm surprised they didn't wait until Monday

Well it's something you want to get out in front of fast.

But like I said in the other thread. Unless the person has proof and if he ever did I hope he kept it. Then it's going to be a bit tough. Who was notified? Did he go to ND first or did he just go to HR etc.

This isn't about there being no signs of sexual harassment. What they said is that they have no record of him making such allegations in the first place, which imo, is a more serious denial.

Did the allegations get sent to Sony instead of ND?

The statement they put out spoke clearly for both. So...

Ballard wrote those tweets in the other thread right? Did he disclaim them afterwards? Not sure what ND means about not receiving allegations.

The thing is most of the recent sexual assault accusations in the news don't include any evidence, just the accusers account of the violation.

Which seems to be enough to out people

So they've spoken.

If Ballard brings forth proof, they're toast. As of now, I'll continue to monitor for further developments.

didnt he say that sony fired him the day after he went to hr to file a complaint? so, if the complaint was never filed...there are no records.

Hopefully the accuser has more than just a story because this is the kind of stonewall PR statement you're going to get in these cases...basically implying that the accuser is a liar. Neither ND or Sony want to be liable for a sexual harassment scandal in this climate so they want to nip this immediately.

Maybe if we had actually effective journalists they could help out here.

Do companies actually expect us to believe the “we’ve investigated ourselves and have found nothing wrong” bit? We need more proof than that.

I am sure they totally put in the time, over the weekend noless, to really find out what happened and where quickly able to get to the bottom of it in less then 24 hours

Yeah, that's an issue. I didn't really understood that since I'm not that fluent in English, but I get it now. I'm pretty disappointed in ND.

I just want to say, I am not picking sides and I have NO facts whatsoever about the situation.

However, I have worked as an employment discrimination attorney for a while. And it's not at all uncommon for a disgruntled former employee to make up claims of sexual harassment.

I want to add this disclaimer in bold - sexual harassment does occur and it's, unfortunately, all too common in every industry.

However, none of us should draw any conclusions based on what little we know about the situation. It may have happened. But it may not have happened. Naughty Dog and Sony absolutely need to investigate the allegations if they have not already done so.

Was expecting something along the lines of "We're investigating into this" but a flat out denial is another thing entirely.

Assuming his recollection of events were accurate, he should still have some sort of paperwork or email or something regarding it I'd hope. I believe him fully, and I want this shitty PR of "Deny it hard" to blow back into their face. Jesus fucking Christ, how low can a company go.

They can both be telling the truth.

Whoever was in HR at both companies could very easily of decided not to document it. Both Sony and Naughty Dog need to continue the investigation and not leave this as the issue being settled. I hope Ballard kept the letter they presented him, although it's quite possible they only verbally informed them of their intent.

So, I also hope that if Ballard can't produce documentation, that people don't immediately discount his story.

I always recommend and tell my employees that if they want to document something, e-mail HR regarding it and forward it to yourself. It's still possible that the company won't create an official report on the incident, but then you'll have proof that the person responsible in the company DID actually receive your complaint, regardless if they did the right thing or not.
