I don’t know what to think about this entire thing, but not talking about politics doesn’t seem like a viable long term solution.

Why? This is a gaming forum, first and foremost. Politics is what made it a toxic environment and an unenjoyable place to post. It was a never ending spiral of negativity and a lot of threads devolved into people just spamming "Fuck [current thing]" and then people getting hostile towards anyone that disagreed.
