All righty. I just want to talk about video games with people, so i’ll stay. I don’t see that as any endorsement of anything other than the fact that I enjoy reading OTs and occasionally posting here. I hope the community lives on because as of now there aren’t any better alternatives.

And I’m fine with the pause button on OT until things play out. There are plenty of other forums for political discourse.

Good call, it was getting ridiculous and out of hand. A focus on fun instead of fighting will be good for the site.

Here is the thing many of those political and social threads help people and save people's lives.

You get called out for sexual assault by a woman, and so all these people lose soenthing that helped them, saved them.

Just because you are mad a woman called you out for assaulting her.

Not even Harvey Weinstein would do that. That would be like him destroying all Miramax/Weinstien films.

Also I'm just going to add that its hard to appreciate the moderation team when they had for so long constantly displayed bias towards and against various users whilst stifling discussion on this website. Its even harder to respect you when you let it all happen, all the while banning and hiding from any and all posts made on the subject. Hiding it all and throwing it under a rug comes off as an admission of guilt, especially considering how long it took you to post something here and restore the site.

....Nonetheless, your decision to disallow politics and focus more on hobbies whilst intending to change your intended method of moderation is encouraging. I just hope you don't allow GAF to fall as low as you allowed it. While I understand why you'd want the moderation team to be anonymous, that means you're also making it to where moderators can't be held accountable for any potentially faulty moderation they may incur. What you should be doing is just setting base and strict rules with regards to what people are allowed and not allowed to post and have moderators strictly be guided by that. This would ensure that users couldn't be banned unfairly and would also know in advance exactly what they can and cannot do as well as prevent moderation abuse.

I consider myself a fairly active user. These recent developments have been handled horribly, but this is even worse. Limiting the off topic posts because your own users find you vile?

I'm sorry, but I'll probably be leaving when resetera launches. I can't stomach being around something like this.

The unwelcome changes to moderation were the increased use of modbot to work as an anonymous proxy, and the deletion of posts and threads, and bans where no visible breach of forum regulations occurred.

I don't see how having more secret police will improve that.

Someone openly saying why someone has been banned makes people adhere to the rules, and to see where someone has taken a step too far.
Being banned at an anonymous moderators whim not because of any rule breaking but because they're having a bad day / you said something bad about something they like / they can't be bothered to discuss an issue / don't like the cut of your jib is not "strong moderation".

Its a police state.

Yeah im not feeling this statement , it gives the community zero to no confidence. Blaming the political spectrum and off-topic in why things have gone the way they have is lousy. I wish neogaf the best but this doesn't look good im sorry .

I hope that some parts of the old OT can be salvaged. It seems like at least the community part, and the threads that revolve around movies / TV shows / podcasts / creative arts, are worth keeping.

I somewhat understand wanting to refocus it, but to do so this drastically and under these circumstances doesn't seem right.

Yeah, I don't think completely avoiding controversial topics is ever a great idea. Maybe there could be a separate OT section for political/religious/social threads? Though they often become heated, they're some of the most interesting and thought-provoking subjects.

I feel this is a terrible decision. But I guess time will tell. Heck, isolating political discussion in a single thread would be the best course, I think. Poor Poli-GAF. And yeah, this didn't kill GAF, BTW.
