KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

Nothing noticeable yet, but haven't tried any HDR games recently.

As far as I'm aware there shouldn't be any difference in the HDR brightness effects as this is controlled by the Y value which is 4 on both YUV420 and YUV422, but theoretically there will be less room to send colour data. The content might not need the full range anyway and I'm not sure if YUV420 can effectively do the full range of colours anyway. Gets pretty complicated if you look into it.

I'm quite sure that it's so minuscule a difference that you shouldn't notice, and a quick easy fix for the black screen issue.

This did fix my black out screen issue thanks.

I don't think anyone has figured it out yet.

Hey Dr. Zoidberg you're one of the smartest people here when it comes to this stuff. Does YUV420 offer a worse picture for 4K and 4K + HDR content than YUV422? Would you notice the difference?

Does YUV420 offer a worse picture for 4K and 4K + HDR content than YUV422?

Technically yes, but in real-world eyeball testing, the difference is extremely minimal. Most people wouldn't notice though there is always someone that claims they can clearly detect any difference in picture quality.

You could think of it like this:

RGB - Raw, uncompressed color data
YUV422 - Compressed color data
YUV420 - Even more compressed color data

This compression is lossy so there is a price to pay in PQ but as I mentioned it's probably not noticeable to most people. I believe the reason why there are no drop outs with 420 is that there is simply less data being pushed through the various interfaces and cable.

Yeah I've started getting this recently, but only on the PS4 Pro never on apps, which suggests it's maybe a HDMI thing with me. Was okay for about the first 8 months of having the Pro and this TV. Just resorted to putting the Pro on YUV420 and not had any issues since

You know, after reading your guys posts about this, I had the same issue on my Sammy 1080p TV. Like, exactly the same. When I disconnected it from the internet the problem stopped. This was a while ago as I've gotten the new 4k but I remember how random it was. I've I pulled the ethernet and turned off wifi it stopped doing it.

Its now in my other room and doesn't do it anyone even with internet on. So, maybe the app installer is bugging out or something? It seemed to stop after a few patches came out.

So I have a KS8000 and love it. Cable hooked up to an Xbox one S. All the sudden within the last week or two when I watch certain channels it’s almost like it’s in some weird cinematic view. I’m not sure if the latest Xbox update caused or the the latest tv firmware. Has anyone else noticed this? It’s super annoying. I notice it mostly on live shows such as hockey, football, wrestling etc.

It’ll be one of the motion settings. Judder reduction or blue reduction.
I don’t like them being on as it causes strange effects on certain content.
Try lowering the value until you stop seeing it

Please explain in more detail what you mean by this.

Cinematic effect* not view, sorry.

I don’t even know how to explain it besides that. I’m sure that doesn’t help much but it’s like these channels have like a weird effect to them. Never ever had this before and I haven’t changed any of Xbox or tv settings in a while and this didn’t occur. Tried googling my issue but not sure what to even google...

Also, does running my cable through the Xbox degrade quality? Instead of directly to an hdmi port? I feel like the tv picture isn’t the greatest in general compared to other TVs I watch cable on. (Which are not as nice of tvs).

RGB - Raw, uncompressed color data
YUV422 - Compressed color data
It looks like half resolution in terms of color

So if you could care less about HDR, RGB is the go? I'm tired of messing with my settings and HDR is a pain in the ass to get right on this TV coupled with the PRO. Ugh.
HDR(due hdmi limitation) can't deliver true 4K resolution. 422 is half of color resolution. Same method is used to compress PNG to jpg. However I can't understand why TV cuts signal to 422 in case of SDR.
No real reason to cut SDR game mode to 422.

Does that happen now on the PS4 PRO?

Anybody had issues with the HBO GO app on this TV recently? It says there are new terms of service that have to be accepted to use the app but they are for my samsung account. I follow the prompts to the actual terms of service but there is nothing there to accept, only to close the window, then it just keeps repeating in a circle whenever you try to login.

All the other app I use work without issue (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Youtube, etc).

Anyone else experiencing Color Separation when using Game Mode with Samsung's 2016 4K TV models? I recently bought a KU6300 and it suffers from the Game Mode issue. When researching it, it seems to be firmware related. Also could not find anyone having the issue with the 2017 models.

If you set ps4 to 4k 444 RGB and set TV to game mode - TV only shows 422. Very stupid samsung's decision, because hdmi 2.0 can deliver 444 rgb 4k 60hz without problems.
Ks8000 converts rgb 444 signal to YCbCr(not good decision, cuz rgb has 0-255/ 16-235 range and YCbCr has 16-239) and then compresses YCbCr 444 to 422 YCbCr.
Yes, It's not big difference for ps4 pro games, cuz the games are a bit blurry. However that compression reduces quality, when we play in real 4K without blurry AA methods

How did you see that?

On my set, my PS4 Pro settings shows only 4k RGB. When it switches to HDR then it shows YUV422.

So, on your set it show that you are getting RGB 422?

Possibly to help reduce the input lag in game mode?

rgb 422 doesn't exist. The reason why we can't see all fonts sharply -is not rgb 422. The reason is rgb 444 to ycbcr 422 convertation.
You can open this image with ps4 photoviewer at fullscreen(only pixel in pixel)
https://linustechtips.com/main/uplo...t_4k.png.8fc940e703b15b869281af8c8d22f67e.png
With game mode you can't get extremely clear red/blue fonts. With pc mode you can, because pc mode uses RGB 444 without any convertations.

And I've noticed some DSR problem with ks8000. nvidia recognises 4096x2160 as native resolution. So DSR scaling is not right. Can live with that, because my pc barely can handle 4k native resolution. However it will be a problem in a few years.

How can it help, if all postprocessing is turned off and tv should recieve only input signal(input signal is RGB). As I understand -game mode is not so clear. It has some postprocessing features(like DC) and signal goes through TV's processor. So there are some reasons to convert rgb to 422(may be processor can't handle 444).
It's bad, because game mode doesn't need postprocessing and rgb convertation. ps 4 pro, PC and xbox send RGB signal. The second question: why is pc lag so high on 2016 models? Pc mode is the only mode without any postprocessing.

My claims to samsung engineeres - 1. pc lag is so high for no real reason. 2017 tvs have not that problem. 2. Pc hdr mode doesn't work right. It can oversharp image with no reason. It has dofferent gamma curve. 2017 damsung TV.s had same problems, however new updatees have fixed it
3. why can't I choose color space and gamma manually and why can't TV display notification of current color space(709 or dci-p3 or 2020)? 2017 models can show gamma setting(1886 srgb)

So this is a problem that really can't be fixed. Just wait for 2020 4K HDR TVs then right?

Try this[
HDMI AUTO DETECT TOGGLE

The HDMI Auto Detect feature can be turned off on Samsung 2016/2017 TVs using the remote control by pressing a certain key sequence (either IR or Bluetooth remote works).

1. Make sure TV is updated to latest firmware version
2. Switch TV to TV source – HDMI may not work with BT Smart remotes. TV source works with either remote
3. Using IR Remote: Mute + 7 + 2 + 9 + Exit
4. Using Smart Control: Mute + Vol Down + Ch Down + Mute

PLEASE NOTE: TV does not display any messages after you press the above key combination. This function is a toggle. So if you want to turn HDMI Auto Detect on again, press the same key sequence.

This information has already been shared with online Tech Support and the Call Centers.

This is driving me crazy, my Pc goes from Game mode to pc mode all the time. I want to do this but where is the mute button on my remote?

Anyone have current setting for PS4 pro/HDR?game mode settings on this TV?

Edit: Including how the pro is set up.
A quick search will render a bunch of results. Use those as a base and go from there because at the end of the day our eyes are all different and what works for me may not work for you. Keep backlight at 20 when playing games in HDR for starters and you have to do this manually until Sammy releases the fix.

It’s better to put the game mode for HDR playing ? Xbox One x and PS4 Pro.

For the moment is see not a bing difference with or without HDR :(

Thx

I'm going to be in the market for a 4K HDR TV and looking for the best deal. Anyone know of anything great going on right now? Or is anyone eyeing something for Black Friday or Cyber Monday? Any guidance would be great.

I think I've renamed my inputs a hundred times, but it keeps changing back to the original name. I want to keep the inputs name like "PS4, Switch, PC". How can I make the TV stop changing it by itself???

This happens all the time!! Like you, I have no answer for why this happens.

Question..whenever I play my Nintendo Switch and turn it off..on the source info instead of it saying "Nintendo" like I named it, it will rename itself HDMI 4..does it every single time..how do I prevent that from happening its very annoying having to keep on renaming it every time I play it

Does that for me on HDMI 4 as well. I have my PC hooked up on the 4th slot and that's the only one that seems to reset itself everytime as well.

Got a Xbox one x coming anything I need to change in the system settings to go with this tv?

Wondering this as well. Color depth was on 8 bit and I switched it to 12 bit, no idea what it does. Color space I left on standard but there's an option for PC RGB. I left my Pro on standard RGB so doing that for now too. Under advanced settings allow YCC 4:2:2 was not checked... leaving it unchecked for now but I don't really know.

I hate pitting consoles against each other, but so far HDR seems to work better for me on the Xbox than on PS4 Pro for some reason. On the X all my HDR games look "right" after bumping the backlight up to 20 (Gears4, H3, FH3) whereas on the PS4 Pro several of the HDR games look strangely dim/dull even with full backlight and I have to bump up other settings to compensate (HSG, ESO). The only PS4 HDR game that seems to look proper is Horizon, so I know it's not a hardware issue, but I wonder if there is something going on with some dev tools on the PS4 that results in this.

I picked up ESO on X1 last night so I'll try that today and do a direct AB comparison with the PS4 version with HDR and see if they both suffer from the dim issue.

For the X1/X1X, Color depth should be 10-bit. It controls how many colors the panel can display. The KS8000 has a 10-bit panel. Color Space Standard is fine, that's what I use. Just make sure your TV's HDMI Black Level is set to Auto or Low to match.

Yeah, Ive recently tested this with Horizon and i only notice a slightly richer picture between the two, but its hard to notice unless you are really looking for it. All my settings say that HDR is on..

After all the recent firmwares I can't figure out how to tell if it's detecting HDR and 4k.

It used to say when it switched HDR on, then a patch took this out but you could see it when you pressed info and now the info button doesn't do anything.

Is there a way if seeing this?

Bring up the inputs/app bar along the bottom and re-select the same input you are already using. The info banner will drop from the top of the screen after a second.

Had the TV for abit over half a year now. Liking it so far, got used to the backlight bloomimg over time. Just waiting for the HDR game mode update.

I'll probably be inclined to upgrade in 3-4 years when theres a large leap in tech or a bit sooner if i need a larger size (have 55 inch)

I haven't really been following the firmware updates, but the occasional color separation hiccup has been fixed in game mode, right? Played all of Super Mario Odyssey and never ran into that issue. Used to happen about once every hour.

I was really worried this would be the case. I always felt the HDR was to dim while gaming on the Pro in most cases. As HDR looks amazing with the built in TV apps. Here's to hoping the supposed new firmware update for the tv will correct all HDR gaming problems.

The latest firmware on my KU6300 seemed to have fixed the issue. Before the Xbox One X launched (and after latest firmware), it was very rare to see. Spotted it once in about a couple of days. Haven't seen the issue at all since getting the Xbox One X.
