Not all continents have the same resources. Its easier to survive in europe because of more access to water and the wildlife is less predatory. The winters were worser but the land was more suited for agriculture.

Not much has changed although I've dropped nearly all socialist leanings in favor of a more free-market/pro-capitalist stance. I also no longer support welfare and believe immigrants should integrate in society (but I don't want border walls or any extreme Trump style BS).

I'd say I'm small-government and left-leaning, but still decently close to center. I don't think the government should be involved in determining who you marry, what drugs you take, and what you do with your own body (as in abortion).

I also think our tax system is entirely too complex and allows for people to duck paying their fair share. Ideally you should have 3 lines on your tax forms: total income, multiplier, taxes owed. I believe that the consolidation of wealth in the 1% is dangerous for the future of our country. I don't believe in trickle down economics because if it was real we wouldn't have the disparity we have today.

I want the government's power to be scaled back out of our personal lives.

I'm open to the concept of universal basic income however. It would be a fixed amount, and would never change. So even if the economy tanks, tough luck, you're still on your 10k UI salary.

I believe in a hard working society that rewards hardwork and punishes incompetence. If people want more in life, they need to work for it or give back to society. But someone who stays indoors 24 hours and demands government cheques while doing nothing, does not deserve the taxation that comes off my paycheck.

How in the world do people think Clinton was “leftist”? She was the epitome of a pragmatic centrist.

I feel like you live in a completely different reality than I do. My town voted 87% Clinton. We are one of the safest cities in the United States. We are prosperous and educated.... we invest in our infrastructure and end up saving money in the long term because we smartly put our taxes towards things like early intervention programs so we don’t have to hire more cops and make more prisons. We have the best public education system in the United States. We were the first state to legalize gay marriage.

What do you think it’s like living here? Like..... What are outsiders views of our lives?

Welcome. I am a Latin-mass Trad myself. I tried to get Catholic threads going a few times in the past, but are always dominated by anti-Catholic rhetoric or Cafeteria "Catholics" coming in and listing all the things they disagree with. Modern catechization is pure shit.

I don't want to sound heartless and not want people who for a fact cannot work be left behind, but I really don't want a system in a place that rewards people for staying at home and do nothing.

If society empowers the individual to work for themselves, they become less dependent on others to subsidize their life for them. It also means we could have more millionaires who create services or develop strategies that benefits everyone, disabled people included.

"Enlightened lustre"? Are you fucking kidding me? There was nothing particularly enlightening about the previous circle jerking that was every political discussion here. A main difference is that people are feeling a little bit more open to discuss things, there's nothing intellectually stimulating about having to dress up your opinion in case someone somewhere takes exception to what you say causing you to be expelled. Potentially extreme opinions are still getting banned, the colonization of Africa guy was banned, but I honestly find it very refreshing that someone was able to post "I voted for Trump" and not get banned for it.
