Sadly I don't think it's just Twitter (although I understand what you mean about Twitter culture), it's people being too dense to realize that if they are wrong, they can change. People defend themselves too hard instead of allowing to see if they are wrong, react too violently to stuff they disagree and try to win perpetually an argument that pretty much has no prize.

I'm not a perfect example on anything and I say stupid shit all the time. But when I get called out saying something that's wrong, I allow myself to be wrong and see if that's something I'm willing to change. Nowadays people seem to be unable to deal with the possibility of not being the hero all the time.
