This is insane to me..... And I regret buying this game now...

edit: Removed the picture of the vase since this was obviously wrong. Apologize for that.

WTF Ubisoft. Hiding these sort of things is not helping anyone. Especially when you want it to use in schools in history classes.

MOD EDIT

The vase was not altered, here it is on the British Museum website.
The text next to that picture is about the related tour station, where female students were included in a class.

Surely we don't need to explain what you're doing wrong here.
its stuff like this that makes me wish Hitler had won the war..i dont even care if i get banned its the truth.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
This is no different than what they do in textbooks and I assume that's what they are emulating here. Many schools (in the US at least) wouldn't use this as a teaching tool if they left all the naughty bits in. You can probably thank our Puritan ancestry for that.

Please don't throw around accusations of this type unless you have information to back up those accusations.
What did you expect from a company that feels the need to indicate that their game is “a work of fiction crated by a team of various races, religious beliefs and gender identities” on every startup?

Edit: But generally a few censored boobies and some wierd vase shouldn’t bother anyone too much.
I certainly am not shocked about it.

This is super ridiculous. Boobs and dicks, gotta hide 'em or they'll eat your kids! :/

Gonna wait until I can get the game for 10 Euro used. Ubisoft of all publishers who always prouds itself about its historical games now censors classical art. Because think of what could happen if someone saw a statue with a dick or boob.

Meanwhile murdering 1000s of people in the same game in various gruesome ways.

This industry is so effed up. It has no moral backbone left.

I don't understand this censorship. Isn't the game rated M for Mature?

Why is Ubisoft having issues with the nipples and genitalia of statues but had no problem showing off assassination?

The fuck? How is it indecent when Ubisoft does it but when it's in a museum then it's good?

I mean it's funny the way they did it clearly they didn't want it to be done either.

Eh it's kinda fucking obvious it's ESRB pushing this and not Ubi. They want to lose the 18+rating if they want this to be a real educational tool for schools. And ESRB with their stupid rules don't care if they're statues och not. A nipple is a nipple.

Interesting that they went with shells. Would ancient Egyptians have ready access to seashells, living along the Nile? Seems unlikely.

Isnt this standard now with everything coming from America? (the continent not the USA per-se) Movies, games and other types of media show us murder, guns, violence, blood and so on without hesitation, but god forbid there is a boobie somewhere, or worse, some vague depiction of a slit or a flacid penis, THE HORROR!

Traditional leaves would be worse though.

But the regular game wasn't censored. Is this for discovery tour only?
Because i recall seeing tits and dicks on statues and some women walking topless.

I think this is meant for discovery tour only and you guys are overreacting.

Large companies have to tip toe around everything in today’s social climate. You never know when you’ll become the next target on Twitter.

It's one of my favorite games ever (I'm an AC fan anyway), but this is quite sad, especially that vase, although I can understand the hiding of genitals in a way. This is ridiculous that everyone has to fear the insane, delusional far-leftists, those people who should be the main advocates of freedom of expression in theory, but in reality just a bunch of demented people. Oh yeah, they advocate freedom of expression as long as it expresses what they want...

How were women treated in Egypt back then?
This seems like sugar coating the ugly aspect of the history... unless this is a more accurate depiction of its time.

The statue censoring is SOMEWHAT understandable because Ubi's desire is for Discovery Tour to be available in schools and libraries.
But I'm struggling to understand how pottery art relates to inclusive gameplay, particularly in the context of this game mode.

Please don't do this blame imagined groups of people unless you have evidence to back it up.
Also the first comment on this thread is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever read on my tenure here.

That ... makes it worse?

Schools and libraries of all places shouldn't censor history and art. For Christ's sake, what would happen if students saw dick and boob? Just WHAT? The Apocalypse coming over us? :/

Who the heck cares what they did to some statues in game that no one probably even bothers looking at? The clam shells are hilarious though.

Are you from the US? Do you have school-aged children? Are you familiar with our school systems here? I'm going to assume your question was rhetorical but I'll answer it truthfully anyway.

What would happen is the child could tell their (overly-religious) parents or their friends about how "they played this cool Assassin's Creed game at school today and saw a statue with boobs!". The parent, upon finding out, would contact the school and demand that the teacher be reprimanded/fired. School administrators would bow to pressure and capitulate. No more Assassin's Creed virtual tour for that school district - word would get out quick and within a few months it wouldn't be allowed at any school in the US simply because the administration wouldn't want the headache or hassle over the potential liability.

Of course this is the worst case scenario, but Ubisoft are no fools and they know this is a possibility.

Stop blaming imagined groups if people for things that you have no evidence of. Don't generalise about groups of people.
First post mentions Hitler. Irony here being that Himmler manufactured archaeological findings to justify the historical existence and prominence of the 'Aryan' race.

I doubt it, considering the Sex Ed curriculum is now filled to the brim with degeneracy, it is something that they probably are already familiar with.

In what society would children be harmed by seeing the naked chest of a sculpture, it's not like they will see it anyway in Biology class. The game is about murdering people... Will they patch it to make the victims fall asleep/give up instead of dying, like what tends to happen to games in Germany?

Lol those seashells look ridiculous. Would make more sense to pixellate those parts if they really wanted to hide them. (and it would make even more sense to keep them untouched).
The vase is indeed both more subtle and worse; subtle because few people would have noticed it, worse because it's a complete forgery. Well at least they're open on it, but it would be better to have an option to disable stuff like that.

Is it irony that if Art Schools censored human anatomy the these statues wouldn't be correct in the game anyways?

It calling attention to something that gets giggles and stirs controversy, but should be respected and understood. I always hated when a friend would come over and see one of my classical anatomy books or nude drawings or sculptures and makes some dumbass sophomoric comment...I suppose Ubi is trying to avoid this type of thing.

They should make it pixelated, and when you approach the statue a hovering text says 'this content is blocked in the USA'.

Country of the free. Lol

Tag, you're it.
Really a bad thing imo. Just add the option for those who want it disabled and that's all

Ptolemy XIII and Cleopatra are black in the game so we already knew that historical accuracy wasn't their priority.

You used to see a lot of nudity on TV even in commercials in Europe like 20 years ago but today it's all gone.

Really? They do not seem black to me.

Her facial features are not sub-saharan black if that's what you're saying but her skin is very dark and she has dreadlocks. The Ptolemaic Dynasty put in place after Alexander the Great conquered Egypt were Macedonian Greeks who were white. They didn't really mingle much with the locals and often married sisters or cousins to keep the bloodline "pure" (they weren't really up to date on genetics back then); Cleopatra and husband Ptolemy XIII being siblings themselves.

Probably because someone can idle the camera zoomed in on the body parts all day long. I mean, it would be in schools with kids who could care less about history. All the jokes would be "oh there's boobies, hahaha"

I can't say that's all children, but their first association with games is still the "kill or be killed" menatility. "It's Assassin's Creed, omg lets assassinate someone!"

I wish games were taken more seriously and that they weren't always regarded as some youthful way to spend your free time. Censorship seems to be the only thing that matters to some people. Having a job at the ESRB would suck if you ask me.

Interesting that you are saying this; but certainly not in any german speaking or scandianvian country. Dont know of others.

If there's a problem with past human behavior, why we must lie to ourselves and change history when we tell it instead of telling it like it is with the added knowledge that now we know better? Like "this was bad back then and we know it now so that's why we'd like it to change" instead of this sad bullshit.

Suck my balls Ubisoft.

Not true in France either, some brands are actually quite famous for always showing boobs in their ads ("Tahiti" shower gel), and they still do.
Those talks of "islamisation of society" are just silly and plain wrong.

Calm down. XD

Anyway we all know that dicks and tits are way more dangerous then guns.

Emphasis on "SOMEWHAT". Hence, the capitalization. I guess I should have bolded it as well to make it clearer.

Regardless: I'm not defending it, I was just trying to understand the reasoning behind it.
