It appears so, yes. And the randoms aren't that many in count as far as I could tell.
Wow that sucks. I was never too clear on that leading up to release, during the betas and all. And Rare had such a good character creator in Kinect Sports Rivals.

"an “endgame boss” kraken that has already been turned into a meme by players, as the thing is just tentacles with no actual body lurking under the water. Perhaps a metaphor for the entire game."

Ouch... haha

First as a disclaimer, not trying to start any platform wars on be a fanboy of any sorts - while I've been firmly in the PS4 (and later Switch too) camp this gen, competition is always healthy. Microsoft needs a hit, so all the best for Sea of Thieves. Having said that...

Yeah. If you check out the new Eurogamer design and the front page there, you'll not only notice that it's hideous (and truly it is - how much white can you fit on a web page?), but there's a separate section for Sea of Thieves. What the actual fuck, that's not being a gaming news site, that's just very blatant sponsored content. I've nothing against it as such, but it most definitely should be labeled as such.

Yes, eurogamer is really pushing it too much. It is even doing the game a disservice because it has exhaustively shown pratically everything about the game. I am led to believe eurogamer owes MS for the exclusive of the XOX. Rare is also british and there is the national pride at play. I am not saying they will give the game a higher score than it deserves, but they are pumping and pumping the hype baloon.

There was this running pre-defense of Sea of Thieves by Xbox fans that secret depths were lurking under the surface, that we were only seeing the tip of the iceberg but that simply is not the case.

Was there? I saw a whole bunch of trepidation about what SoT is and how much content it would have.

it seems very clear that this is a totally unfinished game, and yes, my earlier, much-derided predictions about Sea of Thieves having No Man’s Sky’s strengths and weaknesses were warranted.

Why is SoT constantly compared to NMS? Rare never said anything about NMS nor did they say their game would be anything like it. They also never promised a Destiny style narrative or any amount of content...They have always only shown a great co-op experience where most of the fun is had at sea against other players...non-scripted, emergent gameplay is their tagline it seems.

Even many of the Twitch streamers I’ve seen seemingly having a blast with this in front of tens of thousands of viewers eventually admit it’s hard to know just how long they’ll play because of the limited content, and that clearly the game needs a lot more added to it.

Twitch streamers are having a blast. People are having a great time playing this game with friends. Is that not a successful game? Rare has said that they have a DLC roadmap and that free content will be added regularily. GAAS this is.

Sea of Thieves
requires you to have entertaining friends, or else it is incredibly difficult to have fun at all.

Xbox Live and PC have some very entertaining people playing...Maybe try and make some "entertaining friends" instead of writing clickbait, coat-tailing articles?

Rare has delivered what I expected and what they have been talking about for a couple years. A pirate game where the players make the narrative and create the fun and chaos. Like I said earlier, people have over inflated this game with comparisons and their imaginations.

Fixed...but thanks for the spoiler ...

I wouldnt listen to any of the nonsense that comes out of WaterAstro's mouth. Literally every single post. And for whatever reason it has been like his life goal/dream to make sure everyone knows how horrible of a game Sea of Thieves is. Look up his post history. Its quite comical and sad.

It's fine if he has reasons to quit a game. Other people have reasons to keep playing it. It doesn't make one more right than the other, it just means different people have different tastes.
Yeah, except Lirik has hundreds of thousands of followers, and 50 thousand people were watching him quit. His opinion, as a top streamer, is already having far reaching affect on any potential customers. People watch twitch instead of reading reviews because it's the actual game being played, and it's not scripted like Let's Play on youtube. It's also only the first week, so you don't even have proof that people will keep playing it.
Haven't played the game and will not play the game (since I really only play on PS4) but that seemed like completely shameless click-bait.
I don't think the game would be for me, since I am more of a Dark Souls guy, but whatever floats your boat.

That said, I really hope that this game will be a commercial success. For Rare's sake. No one benefits from a studio struggling, regarding of platform.
Rare needs this, and maybe they will release something for PS4 too in the future?
First, I'm not Lirik, so what reason do I have to bait you into clicking someone's Twitch vod? Second, it really shows your lack of knowledge on the issue surrounding Rare when you don't even know that Rare is a Microsoft 1st party studio.
The only thing I'm not really overjoyed about so far is the length of day, granted I've only played a couple of hours, but that's one thing I hope gets patched.
Given that they spent 3 years to make this little, don't hope for anything to be done quickly. They really took their time.

lol, now real players' opinion don't even matter. Okay then.

Enjoy your selective quoted reviews of journalist who probably only put in a few hours and haven't played the beta.
You are unfuckingbelievable man. Seriously, what do you get out of shitting all over this game in this thread? I mean really? Does it make you feel better about yourself?

I've seen quite a few "real" players playing the shit out of this game on Youtube and I've dropped in on a few of their channels and they have nothing but praise for this game. Are their opinions not valid because they like it?

And it's not just you. What does anyone get out of shitting on a game they clearly aren't going to and haven't played?

I thought that was just a glitch on my end lol! I jumped down there and saw nothing.

I'm writing a review for this game and I need to rest on it first. My review is already so brutal, it feels like bullying.

This bit from the Forbes article made me laugh out loud:
"My last three quests in a row, I went to turn in a chest and came back to find that someone had stolen my empty ship for literally no reason other than to be irritating. The last time, someone called me a “c***” on their mic as I tried to swim after my departing ship, and then shot me in the head. Good times."

What the fuck were the doing with all of that development time? Just making sure the water looked fucking awesome?
I mean, it does look really fucking awesome.

I’m really starting to think the Xbone has the worst exclusive software library of any major console like ever that I can remember in my 25 + years gaming. Be thankful for third parties. This game is an embarrassment

I have game pass, so I gave it a try. It’s really not for me and I wasn’t intrigued enough to keep playing. I’m glad people are enjoying it though, I have a buddy that is going nuts over it.

Serious question, what's wrong with the Windows 10 Store? I don't believe I used it before and I wouldn't mind playing Gears 4 at some point.
My biggest complaint is its download service. If your game stalls or your pc goes to sleep at all, it not only pauses a download but cancels it. Ive had to redownload gears 4 three times because of that shit and redownloading 80+ gigs with limited monthly internet is not exactly the ideal situation.

On top of that, the windows 10 games are a wallee garden with a seriously low population count. If it werent for crossplay with xbox, gears and halo wars 2 wouldve been dead for awhile now.

Yeah, that does sound annoying and rather obtuse. Thanks for the reply.

After having played it for 7 hours, I feel like this game is going to get absolutely shredded by reviewers.
Care to explain? (I dont mean in a pretentious manner. Im legit curious) The more i read this thread the more divided the outcomes are. Perhaps playstyle comes into account, i have a friends who is now addicted to it because shes been playing with her posse. But i have a few other friends who kinda tried solo-ing and it seemed frustrating to them.

Seems their ambitions were just a tad too high.

I'm just echoing what's already been said but theres just nothing to do after you run around for a few hours, 200 person studio over 4 years and we have 3 unique quest types (kill a group of skeletons, find a buried treasure, capture animals) as our gameplay loop. The combat is pretty atrocious, just a simple 3-hit slash or a charge up attack if you hold the button down, you can also block. There is no ADS sensitivity setting for guns (it's 2018, fellas). The only interactive objects in the environment are cannons, the only thing you can collect are bananas for health, wood planks for ship repairs and cannonballs. The extremely minimal dialogue available is pretty standard, nothing stood out there.

I highly recommend using the trial to play this because I can see the majority of players bailing soon.

So kind of like destiny 2 but worse.

*sigh*

I wouldve preferred they'd take this time to regrow their properties kinda like how we got KI3.

I have trouble getting too excited after how the gaming media hyped other online games making it sound like they'd each change gaming forever. Titanfall, Evolve, etc were talked about for months leading to release and then got completely quiet right after launch.

Did you miss it too? You clearly didn't read that the mod wanted posters to articulate their position, which I have, and I have actual player feedback to back up my positions. I didn't post a troll photoshop comic.

Posting a streamer's negative feedback on the game as he quits is as factual as it gets, and nobody has responded to his criticisms, rather, they attack the integrity of Lirik like his opinions doesn't matter.

I've been playing the game quite extensively including the closed beta, and the 3 stress test and final open beta and of course the main game. Stay tuned to our review at Gaming Instincts. We will have pro tips and tricks guides in both text and video format and of course a full fledged video review with the article. Just give us a few more days please. It will be ready on or before Friday this week. We have a lot to say.

Looks like a game that I'd wait for months until more contents are introduce, right now seems like a lot of complaints are usually that there's really nothing to do after playing for a while.

Man this game is getting shredded. OP jumped the gun a bit early with the in progress reviews.

This just might be the final nail in Rares coffin.

I’ve never seen people freak out about a game so friggin quickly about having nothing to do. That’s pretty bad.

Doesn’t help that melee and shooter mechanics are beyond weak.

The game as service line doesn’t work either since most GAAS titles launch with far more content than base Sea of Thieves and feature some semblance of progression or at their core have stellar competitive and cooperative gameplay elements and activities.

Not even Monster Hunter held strong for too long and that game features both masterclass gameplay, progression and compelling social gameplay whereas I don’t expect Sea of thieves to survive the week. It’s not fortnite or PUBG.

Yea, I’m starting to think it’s time Rare really does close up shop.

I won't be shocked if Rare is shuttered after this one given the entire studio was all hands on deck for this project for the last 4+ years. Sad times for this dev, they were my favorite at one point.

Forbes has been doing weekly slam pieces on Xbox this entire gen. It's like they know the PS4 fanbase is huge and has an insatiable appetite to pupu all things Xbox.
That piece actually pears to be from a contributor rather than being a full Forbes piece.

I'd be interested to know if you have any evidence that they're saying negative things about one brand rather than it just being that the authors of the particular articles you're talking about not being happy about whatever they weren't happy about? I haven't played the game yet so I can't really comment on it's quality but much of what is said in this article does seem to match up with what some other sites are saying that they think about the game.

GOLD!

Now we need one for: "Cool, time to buy an Xbox One... but it's on PC! Yay, another Xbox exclusive/killer app... but it's not exclusive, you can also get on the PC. Glad this turned out great, another Xbox game worth having.... Stop buying games for Xbox!!!"

Is Ubi still making this?

Yes they are, but if you want to play a good naval battle game now, Blackwake is really good. They just introduced several different ships and fort invasions in a recent update.
Yes... it's slated for later this year assuming there are no delays. Expect more at E3. But it's nothing like Sea of Thieves, its purely PvP based which is a complete shame and there is no land gameplay.
We don't know that yet. The game is not finished, and Ubisoft is usually good with updating. The game is based on Assassin's Creed engine, so they have the tools to make land gameplay happen. It would be more accurate to say that it probably won't be an open water free roaming game, at least from what we've seen.
