Assassin's Creed Odyssey leak.

From Software published a lot of them sure, but they only developed Shadow Assault: Tenchu, which was a shitty Bomberman clone with the Tenchu skin. Forgive me if I'm not kicking my heels for another FromSoft Tenchu.

Oh damn. I've been wrong on that one for nearly 20 years now.

In that case: 100% agreed.

Yeah the Dev who developed most of the Tenchu games FromSoft published was K2 LLC.

They don't exist anymore.

Trust me, as an old timey FromSoft fan, there's just some shit that the company should never, ever touch... ever... again...

Looking at you Steel Battalion..

I enjoyed origins for what it was but the map size was just too large. There was no reason to explore all of it

Glad we've got Ghost of Tsushima on the way.
We should all be thankful that someone with a true passion for fuedal Japan is making an open world game instead of Ubisoft, who would just slap their shitty rehashed gameplay ontop of a pretty setting, devoid of any narrative or compelling reason to slog through the game once the eye candy effect wears thin.

I disagree with everything stated here.

But I respect your opinion.

But really, what are they going to do that God of War hasn't already covered in Greek mythology?

Why? I mean I understand, you like these games, but being an yearly installment already led to diminishing returns and franchise burnout once, it's going to happen again.
Well you're implying I experienced franchise burnout with the AC series.

I did not.

I couldn't care less if it is the same shit every single time. Give me assassinating, give me gorgeous recreations of historical eras and places, give me hella good parkour and I'm happy. Diminishing returns does suck... but I can't pretend I'm not happy getting my next AC game sooner than later.

I'm an AC diehard. Ubi could give me an old worn out history book with "ASS CREED" written in perma marker on the front and I'd love it.

That's not unreasonable and I respect your opinion. I haven't played Origins yet but I think it looks gorgeous and I like how they changed somethings in the formula that makes it look really fresh. It got my attention back, I hope they avoid extreme repetition because the Egypt-Greece-Rome trilogy definitely sounds awesome.

But is that really good thing? If you really are diehard fan don't want to see you favourite series to be as best as it can be?

Well... In my opinion the series has never been less than such. I'd give 5/5's to every Ass Creed game ever made. Fuck even the DS games.

I havent played the origins yet, but I will, but I am already excited about this one.

If I was to name one thing I like about the series, it would be going back in time and watching the world, views, buildings. Even though I know it is a game and not made to be accurate.

I was so bored of AC:O because the narrative start was so poorly done, but it's really hard to emulate the greatness that was AC2.

They really need to realize that changing the location isn't going to help. They really need to start from a compelling character, then create the environment around the character.

I love the new setting but they need to let some more time pass between one episode and another. The yearly release did not bring anything good in the past.

Imo, I think someone getting burning out is if they play all the games in a short amount of time. Like trying to binge watch a really long tv series all at once.. Though I only played a little of the first game so I'm not as burned out as some people are. I got black flag on uplay for free, but I still haven't played it yet.

AC:O was insanely boring

the side quests are awful and you must play them so you can level up and play the main quests, so in a way the side quests are actually main quests, the combat was meh, i still miss the badass combat of AC3, i wonder when will we get a game with a combat as good as AC3's, the story sucks and so does the characters, hunting to upgrade gear is an awful addition and a horrible copy of Far Cry's upgrade system

i forced myself to finish it and it was a suffering, i even enjoyed AC:U much more than AC:O
Felt the same dude. Thought I was the only one that didn't enjoy Origins

I enjoyed it, too, but after I was through the main plot, I just "explored" the whole map (just for the achievement) and never played the game again.
This game is just to big and .. well there was really nothing that hold me there. And the DLCs also don't look like they were worth to buy the season pass.

What saved Origins was mainly related to the beautiful location, as it always was in almost every AC. The improvements to the combat system and the less linear main quest were a good improvement though. Some secondary quests were not that bad storywise, even if every one of them ended up in killing a bunch of enemies. I also liked a lot the enemy outposts and their different routines which were different during the day and the night.

Nope. Other than looking nice, the game doesn't have much more going for it. But then again, it's an Assassins Creed game so no surprise there. The ship combat was the last interesting thing the series has done and they have removed that to spin it off into its own game.

The Flavian Era? They couldn't pick the 5th Century BCE, or the early Hellenistic Period?

Isn't the Flavian Era shortly after the Origin's time frame? Origins took place between 49 BC to 30 BC, while Flavian Dynasty took place between 69 AD to 96 AD. While I would have liked to see the Julio-Claudian dynasty, their was far more interesting players during the Flavian period to flesh out the world and characters and it being farther removed from the Origins period to see substantial growth of the Assassin's/Templar Orders.

The 5th Century BCE would not take place over a long enough period (as AC games tend to take place over multiple years), and the Hellenistic Period would have to go back *further* in time, which would be before the assassins existed.

Really not happy about this. More greek/roman architecture/locations is yawn, and I don't find Bayek interesting. Origins was so bad :/

Here's settings I wanna see:

- Russia during Katharina the Great
- Present day
- During the ancients' high era
- During early discovery of South America, featuring Aztecs, Maya, Inca, what have you
- during the Ice Age, with Mammoths
- a cyberpunk AC set 500 years from now. Jetpaks, invisibilityy cloak, Eraser rifle, etc. Basically playing Boba Fett.
- WW2. Assassinating Hitler. It needs to happen eventually.
- India during Ghandi
- Japan during Sengoku Jidai
- Spain during Zorro

So many interesting settings left. Let's leave the mediterranean region ;/

Wait...did I miss something ? Why is everyone so sure this is a 2018 game ?

It's not unusual for Ubisoft to show games at E3 that are going to be released the next year.

Sub-$20 to avoid disappointment - like another person in this thread I didn't make it past Alexandria - which in terms of map uncovered is probably sub 10%. I just felt like I seen everything the game had to offer in terms of gameplay by then, and it was ok .. maybe if I wanted a time sink of a game more.

The changes they made sounded good on paper, but in practice the combat was very average hack and slash, and the parkour is so easy it basically flattens the entire map - 99% of stuff is climbable no problem, no puzzle or challenge.

In fairness I genuinely enjoyed the game to start off with .. then in the beginning area I encountered bandits that looked exactly the same as all the others I'd been fighting but now were "skull" enemies I couldn't even damage.

And it really needs to be mentioned the atrociously presented beginning that drops you in the game sort of in 'media res' - but you have no clue what's happening - yet if you go to the menu there's 5 assassinations already waiting for you, including names and descriptions - it's so bad many people thought/think the game has glitched and skipped a cutscene - but no.

It's not a game I hated at all, but really feels like Ubisoft needs some real game-design talent (that's probably unfair - but it needed much stronger direction) on board .. such a directionless start.

(whoa unloaded)

Damn, yeah that doesn't sound too exciting.

And how's the story? I could actually deal with the typical Ubisoft crap if at least they had good stories but I seriously think they have some of the worse writers and storytellers in the AAA industry.
The story in AC games always comes down to disjointed cutscenes to give context to the next mission instead of any attempt at having an interesting and coherent narrative.

Firstly I played it straight after GOW, which didn't help because of the pretty harsh cuts in the storytelling,.. and like I said I didn't even half finish the game,.. but based on what I saw :

  • They took some of the Witcher 3 style quest structure and copied/used it - that wasn't half bad - some interesting (and probably amusing) side quest stuff - finding lost kids, rescuing drunks, people having trouble with bandits - it was good/ok
  • The main character - basically Ezio's egyptian cousin - he was likeable, but a bit bland
  • The main quest - ew nope - apart from the difficult to understand plot framing issues straight out of the box there were some other issues - the main one was the two main characters that were simultaneously grieving the loss of their child/killing people to get revenge/having sex inbetween - I just couldn't get over the "my son is dead, just killed a man lets fuck" writing - I think it was plain bad

yeah

tldr -sidequests welcome addition, main quest - worse than any previous installment I've played.

Maybe someone who actually finished the game can give a more balanced view though..

Completed the game to 100% as well as the DLC. The writing is no where near as bad as AC3 for me, which I feel was the worst in the franchise. The characters were interesting, but much of it felt like a way to frame the setting. The side quests helped flesh out the towns and its struggles, alongside the "villains" who were manipulating/controlling the areas. Bayek was interesting, but his interactions with Aya were very... odd to say the least. Then there was Aya proper, who I really did not care for with her actions to Bayek and her ultimate goals throughout the game. The ending and its references to certain assassinations of high value targets of that era were super cool to see as well as the architecture.

Overall, I would give it a sold 8.5/10 - but there was some issues with the story and characters, alongside the overly large and empty world. While I know it IS a desert and there isn't much life in it - I feel like it could have had a bit more... interesting characters and environments to explore. The tombs were great and the combat was much improved.

Bayek was too bland and simple-minded. yes, your son was killed. Now stop reminding me in every cutscene. :/ Due to this, there was zero character development.

The AC with the best, most likeable and charismatic characters is still Black Flag. The best gameplay can be found in Unity.
