Did the Destiny 2 Forsaken reveal do anything for you?

Admittedly this is a hype video without a ton of the little nitty gritty details as to how this is all going to work, what everything is going to look like...etc... but to me it shows that Bungie is seriously making changes to this game in a dramatic way to try and recapture what a lot of us really love about Destiny.

We're getting:
  • Hunt Down the 8 Barons and their Crew (new unique story concept and new enemy races)
  • Two New Destinations: The Tangled Shore and The Dreaming City
  • A Brand-New Raid
  • Introducing Gambit, a 4v4 Competitive PvE Mode
  • Wield New Powers with Nine Additional Supers
  • Collect New Exotic Weapons, Armor, and Gear (also introduced weapon stat randomization again and weapon slot freedom)
  • All-New Weapon Archetype, Legendary Bow
  • New Story Missions, Adventures, Destination Activities, and more
...

Between the new powers and supers, the weapon changes and the collections I'm really sold that Bungie is starting to really show that they meant what they said that they were listening to the community.

Changes of this scale have to take a long time to implement, and it's great to see they're well on their way to giving us something really new and exciting.

Curious if this attracted the attention of any fence-sitters or brightened the day of any existing Guardians out there.

Nah. I've learned my lesson when it comes to Destiny: wait for a steep sale. They are woefully slow at updating the game (it seriously took almost a year to add TEXT CHAT to PC?) so it feels like there's no reason to buy at launch, because they likely made some boneheaded decisions as usual that will take time to fix. Might as well skip all the headaches and pick it up for $10 sometime next year.

I just felt so burned by destiny that I have no desire to go back. Gambit sounds neat, though it greatly reminds me of warzone from halo 5. Maybe on a deep discount, but not at launch.

I actually felt like it sounded like they were getting the power fantasy back and then the random rolls for the weapons will bring the Skinner box back and the less restrictive weapon slots were cool too. It sounded like they were kind of starting to get it, a persistent online game really needs variation and a Borderlands style gun game is a good start. The dlc looks fun and worth it Loved the design of the new race. On the other hand though it’s the content amounts that worry me. I usually buy all the dlc at once because I can easily traverse it in a day or two. Regardless I would say Destiny 2’s dlc seems to have been greater than Destiny 1’s it’s just that he whole genre has been shaken up I mean CoD is no longer even a major twitch staple PubG and Fortnight dominate the charts and Rainbow Six Seige keeps growing even as it ages. Bungee has done well I think with Destiny as a whole, I mean really it’s like the only old school Halo style online FPS that is even relevant today, but if the new mode will really change things competively is another question. I think they are going the right direction, but the new supers look like moves from Warframe, and the later game has really dominated the persistent new mmo space.

First I'm seeing this. Is this included in the season pass if you were tricked into buying it at launch, or the "comet" expansion that they're going to charge more for? I'm guessing the second, because why would they include things people want in things they already paid for.

I'm soured on Bungie and Destiny after D2, so they can kiss my ass if they think I'll be spending any more money on this franchise.

Sounds good enough but waaay after a big discount for the complete package. I hope Borderlands 3, Division 2 and Anthem light a fire under Bungie's ass. Maybe we'll get one new class in the next game guys!

Glad they moved on to the idea of an "Annual" pass, as that indicates you are paying for DLC for a year.

Personally, I think it looks good. I really enjoyed D2, it was everything I wanted D1 to be (devoid of its horrendous lack of content and shitty loot systems).

Gambit and a new raid have my curiosity piqued, but real talk: Bungie has very little goodwill from me for failing in many of the same ways dad they did during Destiny 1.

With the annual pass, you're paying for seasonal updates in fact. The DLC is forsaken and has its own cost.

I guess I'll just wait for a discounted package if they've fixed most of the technical issues and if the DLC part is worth those $30.
I wonder if the quantity of seasonal content will ever be worth $40 knowing Bungie...

I actually started watching it and it actually did the opposite for me. I was thinking about getting back into it but the comments on the weapons really turned me off as now it seems like you can make any weapon the best weapon in the game. That IMO seems to take all the sense of accomplishment out of the game and turned it into a hollow shell of a game.

I have not counted it out yet though. I like others am simply waiting for the best version of the game......if it ever comes.

I dont know if i’m the only one, but the trailer didnt really reveal much to me honestly. Some gameplay yes, but that looks like always, not enough facts regaridng all these changes and additions to make me understand how it is better and not just more of the same.

My dick didn’t even move.

I played about 2 missions in the most recent expansion that I don’t even know the name of then just stopped. I don’t think Bungie can bring the space magic back with another rehashed expansion.

Looks fucking awesome. I bought the expansion and pass already. Warmind has me by the balls right now anyway. The improvements to movement, weapon rebalance and exotic reworks and still after a month I’m not powerful enough to do the new endgame activity or raid lair; which is pretty awesome as I have a full plate still chasing exotics thru quests and catalysts to improve their performance.

Annual pass is a great move. There was zero content between taken king and rise of iron. A 10 month drought inbeteeen and now they’ve resolved that with 3 content drops at a lesser price than last year’s expansion.

9 new fuxking supers. That all looked awesome. The new loadoutnsystem looks like it’s gonna be fun as hell. Pretty much everything people bitched and moaned about is corrected and they delivered much more on top of that that no one expected.

The new enemies look great. Art direction for the two new zones, especially dreamin city looks more fantasy than anything they’ve done.

So in. Division sucked and always sucked despite its improvements. Warframe is also f2p pc jank that is the worst offender of time wasted and luring you to use real money than anything else I’ve played — also has poo for polish.

Still exited for anthem but no one can really compete with Bungie when it comes to shooting. And I still like bioware — I’m still the only person I know who finished mass effect andromeda and didn’t hate it.

Essentially D2 is following the same exact path as the first game but they’re overall promising more.

Comparatively, Forsaken looks much cooler and more hype than Taken King ever did

I'm interested. It seems like they are doing the right things with it but after being burned by vanilla Destiny 2 and the first expansion, I'm taking a wait and see approach.

I'm just going to wait for it to come out before deciding whether or not to spend money on pc and ps4. if my clan and friends are enjoying it then i may as well enjoy it with them.

I primarily played D1 for pvp, and i loved every second of it until the end of House of Wolves, then i just played it because it was the only game i had, once bloom was added, sbmm (or over reliance on mmr) i kinda lost my love for the game and for bungie. Ever since it's been a struggle to get into the sluggish D2 pvp. Pve doesn't even feel right to me most of the time, everything is all clunky.

Tiny rant over though, i'm just going to wait, hold out for release and see the whole expansion before i decide to drop 40 or even 70 dollars (twice... so 80-140 if i buy on pc / ps4).

With E3 around the corner Destiny 2 can be easily forgettable if new game showings are strong, or at least till a collectors edition drops or price drop.

The additional detail that came out with the reveal did something for me. It reminded me that the people making this game are shameless with their greed. After 9 months of promises to fix the game after raking in the season pass money without actually fixing it, now they promise they will fix it next time if you pay for both dlc and an annual pass. Unbelievable.

None of the “fixes” are paid updates. Only new content is paid for. Weapon load outs, sandbox changes and pvp does not cost anyone anything. If you’re still playing vanilla in a year you get those changes

The lies about D2 are entertaining

not really, what made me quit Destiny 2 early was how quick you can reach max level, the lack of unique exotics (Destiny 1 exotics was awesome, D2 were not), how easy it is to get everything in the game without even trying, the new fucked up Nightfall, the awful PvP (maybe due to OW because i enjoyed D1's PvP), Xur is useless, no new enemies

i don't hate D2 like most people, i love it, but once i got to max level and got most exotics easily, i felt like there is nothing i want to do anymore, in D1, it takes a lot to reach max level and a lot of luck, it took me like 4 months to reach max level in TTK even though i had 2 characters (both warlocks), but it took me like 2 months to reach max level in D2 with only 1 character, and i can't remember any unique D2 exotics, in D1 you got a lot of amazing exotics

eventually i'll get the DLC and hopefully i enjoy it just as much as i enjoyed the game at launch

Forgot about the game and haven't played the original DLCs yet either. But Forsaken is a killer name for this forgotten mediocre game.

Everything stated in your first paragraph was remedied before warmind even dropped or with it. Exotics being reworked was the biggest and best change as well.

The part about light level being the only (or main) chase is the part I just don't understand anymore. That draw was really played out for me before the last expansion in D1 to the point where light (or power) level was simply a number for me.

I guess the mentality is different for different people but the 'numbers going up' phenomenon just doesn't do much for me. What does is weapon randomization (read: GOOD randomization like the better D1 metas) and an ongoing and compelling list of unique rewards earned through guided activities.

Hopefully, they address both of these while adding more and varied terrain (the Mars location in Warmind that's littered with collectibles and some decent atmosphere is a good start).

The game's far from 'dead' like a ton of people (read: mostly casuals) on here and elsewhere love to exclaim but it could use a shot in the arm. This expansion could do that. Cautiously optimistic.

It was slow before warmind but now it’s hovering in the top 10 of Xbox live and doing very well, above state of decay of course (which is being trumpeted as being successful somehow). Destiny drive by bullshit has been a thing going 5 years now.

Warmind was a big turn around for the year 1 game and its end game This latest expansion is exciting because of how different it’s looking compared to anything Destiny before it. I actually think it’s in a better place than D1 Y1 with house of wolves due to exotic masterworks alone but also the more raid content and escalation protocol.

I don’t like leviathian much tho. Haven’t leveled enough to play spurs if stars yet but I generally prefer raids that are just bosses and playforming.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of taken king. That’s when they started neutering and the reverse direction they’re taking with warming and moving forward to make everything overpowered is cool.

OK. That's strange then. When I go to the PS store to pre order it says its unavailable because I already have the expansion pass.

My mistake then, but I fail to see how this makes things much better. So after paying for a year the fixes are free when the game is basically worthless unless you pay for new content? Seems like splitting hairs. And adding a new pass to go with paid content does not shed them in a good light. Period.

I'll always have a fondness for Destiny (I'm a sucker for the gunplay), and I started back up on Destiny 2 with the Warmind release...but that is fading fast, as per my usual experience with the game. My friends dropped the game almost immediately, and being that lots of the "end-game" content are not meant with the solo player in mind, it just becomes like "what's the point?" Admittedly, this could be alleviated by finding random people to play with, but I'm just not interested in that.

I also think allowing me to transfer my save over to PC from PS4 would breathe new life into the game for me, but alas, that's never going to happen.

That said, Forsaken looks kind of interesting, so I'll most likely be picking it up.

i heard that they fixed the Nightfall though which is awesome because D1 Year 1 Nightfall was the best

I liked what I saw and I’m looking forward to the changes. Although I had fun with warmind the game definitely needs a refresh. It’s too bad that all my raid buddies are gone though. I haven’t had the chance to play the raid lairs yet and probably won’t be able to play the new raid either.

Not much. After Destiny 2 imploded the franchise, I’ll wait for the word of mouth. And even then, with Destiny 3 next year, it’ll need to be amazing word of mouth to justify that ridiculous price tag.

Whoever thought that an expensive annual pass with zero story content, on top of the just-announced near-full priced expansion, on top of expensive and poorly received DLCs, on top of the egregious microtransactions, on top of the poorly received base game, all of which will be thrown out next year, was a good way to win players back shouldn’t be allowed to make decisions. This just screams milking their hardcore players to make up for their failed attempt to win mass casual numbers with the decisions they made with Destiny 2.

I think Bungie underestimate the damage they’ve done to their name and franchise.

It made me excited for the DLC to be honest. Gambit seems like an interesting take on PVE/PVP. I believe the new supers will add another branch to the current subclasses, so thats something to look forward to.

Current owners of D2 should also note that the random rolls, new weapon slots system, and the rework to the mod system is a free update for everyone and not just exclusive to the expansion. Maybe jump back in to see if the changes are enough to take you back in, and if not just drop the game again. I've been consistently playing D2 since launch, and I have to say the couple recent updates to the game have improved the base game.

I find your use of the word 'period' annoying and incorrect. Theyre giving stuff like access to all the pvp maps in matchmaking away for free. They didn't have to do that. Granted, it could be a calculated move to drive player interest and thus sales. But they didn't have to do it

According to Google we are rounding four years since Destiny 1's vanilla release I spent $99 on to play 1000+ hours....
After 6-12 months Destiny 1 really began to shine, after which it's multiplayer tweaks made it a whole new game every 3 months.

Destiny 2 I spent $300 on and played less than 50 hours.

After 1300 days I'm not really on board with "Bungie is starting to really show that they meant what they said that they were listening to the community. " They did that around day 200 then destroyed all the progress in the following days.

Enjoy what you enjoy - and no I won't stop being relentless on a game that had 2 years to become great then destroyed all of it with nonsense starting with but not only being the Neververse, a game I spent hundreds on and would have spent hundreds more - but I've been out a long time ago.

Separate. Warmind was the last DLC included in the season pass.

Will anyone please address how slimey it is that "Okay this is the game you finally want but you need to pay more than the $100 season pass price to play how you wanted from day one"? Seriously f****ing ridiculous.

Yes, you have to pay for new content. Games are not free. Such stupidity

All games should be free. We deserve them. Developers should pay US.

$99 Collectors Edition
$99 Collectors Edition for a friend
$50 food
$50 alcohol
$30 Funko Pops
$25 Eververse Cash
$20 TShirt

The hell are you on about? I didn't say I deserve a free game, I said I deserve the game I wanted to play which to most Destiny fans I've known meant Destiny 1 in it's late stage, not Destiny 2 at any point. That may be my personal experience but it's also nearly 4 years too late to make the game I wanted to play.

Edit : And as Jim Sterling points out : $60 is the /entry fee/. Destiny 2 in all respect was $99 and that doesn't include this DLC to finally make the game that we wanted to play, that's "Bungie listening to it's community" smh

You paid 100$ for a years worth of content. Now they’re charging 40$ for the next new piece of content. Especially when this September release has more content than most other kind of full priced releases.

That’s like asking why Black Ops 4 isn’t free when you bought last years ww2.

This is no different than the Taken King. You want free content... it’s not happening. MMOs cost monthly fees in addition to expansion costs.

What’s so difficult to understand?

Also, that’s how it is. If you’re there from day one it’s more expensive. No doubt there will be another packaged release that includes forsaken for 60$. Just like they have done every year, for every retail package for the game.

Played since day 1 of Destiny 1... As a Titan.

I have to say I am really incredibly disappointed with how they have treated the class, in D1 it was so fun with so many ways to play and people would actively look for Titans when raiding or doing hard activity.
They took away weapons of light,
Headstrong,
Juggernaut,
Shockwave,
Nerfed hammer,
Nerfed bubble so it lasts way less time,
Took away ability to titan skate,
Have still not addressed sentinel shield not killing in crucible when it makes contact,
Resilience is now titans stat specialization but it offers NO extra survivability... On top of this Wormhusk crown exotic for hunter means they last longer under fire than titan.
Warlock have rift and recovery specialization which is best in game.

Titan exotics have all been terrible and the armour consistently hideous.
The Titan wall ability is so slow, you could build a wall irl faster. You are constantly killed during animation and it is useless in pvp.

For me, the class needs a lot of love before I consider spending another penny on the series.

With Neolombaxs post I'll meet halfway and say this is kinda slimey, like a Christmas present covered in dog snot. I'll give some credit for that part being free but my mind is still puzzled how it took four years; The content we are getting for free is stuff we had year 2 of the first game, let's not pretend this is new stuff we get for free.

We also can't pretend like the free update won't still alienate people : Even if you paid $100 day one, you'll still have to pay more for the full experience of what you wanted from Destiny in order to play with friends, clans, run raids etc. Offering new content but core updates free isn't the same as having then at launch when everyone is playing the same game - "You can play what you wanted how it should have been but half the people who would play with you moved on" isn't the same.

That’s like asking why Black Ops 4 isn’t free when you bought last years ww2.
Horrible analogy : It's like Call of Duty having half the guns, taking back balance changes it made the last 18 months, and removing 1 person from PVP on each team, then charging for them after the $99 premium game DLC ends.

Content costs money, yes, I'm saying its ridiculous to expect more money from your hardcore demographic that put in the time and money just to play the game they wanted years ago.

This is nonsense and it may be worth your money but I cut ties over half a year ago, there's far too many other games worth your time and money.
(I'm over $50 in Fortnite, a game with far more interesting modes and weapons added constantly for f****ing free.)
