I think Microsoft had the best conference, but I think Sony made the case for buying their console better. So ultimately I think Sony won.

None. Too much CG,too many cinematics, too much scripted gameplay, too many easy words and promises for a very distant future.
The only new games that really interested me were RE2, Daemon X Machina and Sea of Solitude. And maybe Sekiro although i expected more from FS.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
I think over all it was a great E3
We got
Devil May Cry V
Resident Evil 2 Remake
The Last of Us 2
Death Stranding
Kingdom Hearts 3
Spider Man
Halo
Gear 5
Nioh 2
Ghost of Tsushima
Hitman 2
Dead or Alive 6
Doom Eternal
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
And I'm missing a few and yes some of those was previously announced but just look at that list
Gamers won E3

This year I think Micrososft clearly won. Sony is in the zone so they didn't need to impress. It was do or die for Xbox so the entire division had no choice but to pull out everything they had. Luckily they delivered. With that said tho Sony has some amazing exclusive content on the way that looks gorgeous.

I'm a Sony guy, but Microsoft won by far, followed by Ubisoft (which is a company that I hate)...

Their presentation format was useless, clunky and wack and only reveals a lack of vision and content. In fact the games they showcased were huge, but the gameplay videos somewhat disappointing: the overscripted Last of Us II, the clunky/off Tsuhushima, the walking simulator of Death Stranding, Spider-Man was meh in cinematrographic and immersion...

I'm also surprised that since they're only third parties, Microsoft manage to snatch all the announcement like DMCV or KHIII from Sony's Hand. But again, I blame the completely stupid PS4 Slim and Pro fragmentation for having broken the platform's momentum and acceleration.

Seems like a not that great rip of Doc on the ROQ's recordings of Francis E. Dec's rants.

You can hear them here https://archive.org/details/CYC-009 .. there are mutliple places you can read about him - but this one has a lot of text .. https://hatch.kookscience.com/wiki/Francis_E._Dec
While there may be parallels, I don't think that's the case at all. This was a continuation from previous year, when... I can't be arsed to spoiler tag stuff so I'll be intentionally vague, but the one person that appears at the end of the presentation, was a continuity from the previous year. At the end of the presentation, we see a Robocop-esque scene, so I'm guessing the story will continue next year.

The reason why I loved that presentation so much is that it basically takes the piss out of the gaming industry as a whole. Which (while gaming is a dear hobby of mine, wouldn't have it any other way) totally deserves it. E3 isn't quite as self-congratulatory as the Game Awards (which is akin to the Oscars, and I don't mean that in any positive way), but still, it's a matter of "which company spent the most $$$ to make the latest CGI trailer look the nicest". And that is not, at all, what gaming should be about. So for a publisher to come up with a presentation that basically amounts to "fuck you!!!" to the whole establishment - gotta respect that.

And seriously, "lootboxcoin". Ingenious, my hat's off to Devolver for that.

[edit beat me to it] ok I made it to the end of the video now.. (sorry about the hot take) it changed it up a bit in the second half.

I'll give it a B- (thumbs up)

Also MGS:Rising was incredibly influenced by Metal Wolf Rising or wtf ??? (eg I saw something like https://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Metal_Gear_EXCELSUS in the trailer .. why did nobody mention this at the time..)

A Short intermission between a banjo player
This I take an issue with. That was Gustavo-fucking-Santaolalla, the one behind the soundtrack of TLoU (2) (among so many other soundtracks), and the man is an absolute genius. The soundtrack of original TLoU still remains one of my favourites ever, in any medium. If you've played the original game (and not before, as it spoils pretty much everything), check out "Grounded", the making-of documentary about TLoU. It's available on YouTube, comes also with the remastered version. What he does with detuned guitars, PVC pipes and whatnot is just amazing. A true artist.

Had they brought a generic guy to play the banjo for a bit, agreed it would have been "meh" (as was the bamboo pipe). But having the actual composer play his composition for a while, I appreciated it so much.

I was expecting Ashley Johnson to be the one playing, but I predicted that someone would be playing the TLOU theme at least.

The fuck I had no idea - I literally thought it was some random banjo guy they had hired in to do a cover of the LOU song..

Was the bamboo flute guy someone too (same guy? couldn't see face well??)

I think the bamboo flute guy was just some "NPC", so to speak (and while it is hard to judge ethnicities according to short clips, didn't seem Asian either). So there some criticism was warranted (I didn't hate it though, I thought it was alright).

The Bamboo Flute guy was Jack Tretton.

If we're going by conference only MS had the best, but most the stuff was multiplats and "console launch exclusive" indies, so hard to call something a win when it didn't actually make me want to own a XBOX. Sony's started off almost as bad as Bethesda, but then got going and even though they didn't show off as many games but at the same time the actual exclusives were more interesting, and unlike MS they didn't even show off all the exclusives (like Days Gone) they had they could show. And Nintendo.....Nintendo SMASH....byyyyyeeeee!.

Anyway, I voted Devolver. Lootboxcoin baby!

Sony had the best games and since they are exclusives they made a compelling point to buy a PS4.
Microsoft announced more stuff and had a better conference as a show but in the end it was mostly multiplatform stuff so the conference has no impact on their market situation.
Nintendo....emmmm....

Microsoft. They addressed the issues they needed. Five first party studios added (nobody saw that many coming....and holy shit, Ninja Theory!!! Huge get). Typical exclusives look good Gears 5, Halo and Crackdown nods. But excited for the other Tunic, Cuphead DLC, Ori 2...and Forza 4 looked amazing. Many significant 3rd party games that "play best" on xbox (Dying Light, Shadows Die Twice, Cyberpunk) were all shown on XBox.

As for Sony. Im not sold entirely on their format. Didnt overly hate it, but questioned some aspects of it. They wanted to focus on 4 games but each one only got about 8 to 9 minutes. By comparison Gears 5 got about 7 minutes of stage time. The phony interview format and hosts (Clements and Sid) was just odd. All that being said, the games shown looked great. TLOU2 looked ridiculously amazing.

I think it was a crappy E3 overall. But Sony was showing the best looking games, that I am most excited to play in the future over anything. (MS can only dream about having something with the quality of The Last of Us part 2 being on their exclusive games roster, let alone Spiderman, Ghosts, and Death Stranding along with it. And this coming after the recent massivie success of the recent God of War). So Sony wins. Even with bad Fortnite PR.

Nintendo showed the most characters you can put in a fighting game. lol

Capcom for me, REmake 2 with game play footage, and a gameplay demo. Devil May Cry 5 with game play shown. A Mega Man 11 demo on the show floor which got no coverage, but just about everyone who played it loved it.

Capcom is back baby.

Easy...Microsoft.

^^^this

The value of Gamepass is ridiculous. For $90 I preordered Forza 4, Gears 5, and any other exclusives releasing by Jan 2020 while having access to over 100 games. Loved the move to acquire Ninja Theory and can't wait to see what Undead Labs can do with more support.

Edit: Yeah, RE2 looks amazing. My favorite game of the show.

its not bad but almost all of what they revealed i can play elsewhere

*edit*

also they didn't even demo basically anything besides forza

Sony showed a fair few games that can be played elsewhere to but its not being pointed out. Resi Evil 2 remake and Call of duty stand out.

Resi Evil is getting serious hype and multiplat

yes Spiderman looks great as does last of us 2

I voted for Microsoft but I am kind of waffling between Microsoft and Bethesda. I went with with Microsoft for the volume of content.

I found the Bethesda studios conferences to have a bunch of developers that seemed pretty into what they were doing and delivered it in a pretty entertaining way. Andrew WK was unexpected but was crazy and fun as well.

Ubisoft has a consistent cringy aspect to their conferences which while endearing would make it impossible to be my favorite but I do love some of their games.

I felt Sony just really lacked any energy. I can never decide if I like Shawn Layden as a speaker or not. He’s quite odd but interesting, I can not tell whether he is into games or not unlike Phil Spencer.

EA and Square were pointless but at least EA put some effort in Square totally phoned it in.

For the console manufactures, Microsoft had the best overall conference in terms of the number of games shown and the production of the show itself. Sony showed the best/most interesting exclusives that would actually get people to buy their system. Nintendo brought another enhanced Wii-U port to the Switch.

The third party conferences were pretty lackluster this year for me. Ubisoft's was probably the best but also pretty by the book for them (that sound guy is probably fired though). Bethesda brought jokes but unless Todd or Pete were talking, it was kinda cringy (in general, I don't think developers make for the best public speakers). Also, I personally just don't care for Bethesda's games anymore. EA was pure cringe...which is par for the course for them. PC Gaming Show was respectable but boring and Square's was the most disappointing to me personally as they have the most games I would care about but I didn't see any point in them doing a separate video for what they had to show.

Devolver was the most entertaining, especially after watching the other conferences.

Phil Spencer talks way too much, and he does it while massaging his own ego. It's quite boring and repulsive.

You and i have a different view on the word repulsive. To me repulsive was that shitstain at ea saying "we care about the gamers" during an event that showed almost no games and mostly conceptart

I think Microsoft had the better conference so I voted for them. I thought Sony was underwhelming, but I can't act like we didn't know because they even made a statement before E3 about what they were going to show.

However, what made me enjoy Sony's conference the most was the fact that they gave us lot's of gameplay. Something I prefer over Microsoft's teaser after teaser. I personally can't get too excited about a game unless I see a working product, regardless of how polished it is or isn't yet.

Sony showed the best games.
Personal preference, and I mentioned this before, but Ori and the Will of the Wisps looks so much better to me. Beautiful side-scrolling platformer with very engaging mechanics. I loved the first one. That game alone has me more interested than anything Sony showed. And why wouldn't Ori draw interest to the xbox? Does it not count? The Last of Us 2 looks great, but I'm not interested in playing it. Spiderman also looks good, but i'm 50/50 on it. I understand my preferences are different, but the gaming community's preferences aren't all the same either. My favorite exclusive game from the Sony conference was Death Stranding. But for just having fun, screwing around and chilling out, both Crackdown 3 and Forza Horizon 4 look more entertaining. I think that Microsoft understands that a lot of people just want to sit down and screw around for a little bit at a time, and a lot of the games they show reflect that thinking, both Crackdown 3 and Forza Horizon 4 fit that bill to a tee. There is Tunic, a zelda knock-off, but super intriguing and I hope it delivers on its premise. For all the hate Microsoft gets for being a bro shooter console, they continue to come away with the most varied line-up of games imo. Last E3, Nintendo hyped everyone just by showing a title screen of Metroid Prime 4. I was pumped. This e3, Microsoft showed a title screen of Battletoads, which has been a long-time popular request from fans for the xbox one. Then there were games not shown at e3 - The Last Night and Ashen, both of which could be really good. Not sure why it wasn't shown, but I believe Ashen was playable on the floor at e3, The Last Night was completely absent.

Switching to multiplat games, Sea of Solitude and the new Tomb Raider game were probably my 2nd/3rd most interesting new games shown for me. Then there is Anthem and Cyberpunk 2077.

Microsoft is doing okay in my book. Even though it hasn't been announced exactly, we know a new Fable is being worked on. Halo Infinite could be the best Halo game we've had in a decade or more. Then who knows what will come of the new studios being bought up, but I think next gen is going to be much much kinder to the xbox lol.

There it is again. So unless a game is a single-player, cinematic experience, people just aren't interested in it?

If you mean by cinematic experience the latest hide in the long grass and move some objects around to reach higher grass of course that's all people are interested in now :ROFLMAO:

Last year Microsoft show lots of gameplay and got criticised for not showing enough games. Why has Sony got away with what Microsoft did last year?

I think it's pretty clear Microsoft had the better presentation and Sony's was a mess, but when you look at the exclusive games shown, that's where people are giving Sony props. Giving either company credit for lining up third party non-exclusive games into their show shouldn't mean you win E3 though.

I agree and the line up for me what Microsoft shown was pretty good. Forza horizon 4 looks amazing as did gears 5 and Ori. Halo was shown is some form and people criticised that it was no gameplay but if you remember last year people went mental for a CGI trailer of Shenmue.

What I seen off Sony Last of us 2 looks great as did Spiderman but that was it for me. Spiderman just looks a copy and paste of Batman Arkham games which aint a bad thing by no means because those games are awesome but I was expecting a bit more of it because of the hype the game has gotten on here

to me it seems on here no matter what Sony do they will always get praised and no matter what Microsoft do they get played down.

Yeah, because we're not exactly thrilled about the 11th Forza game or the 6th Gears of War. Sekiro, DMC5, Cyberpunk, sure, but only DMC5 was a surprise.

Of course we went crazy for Shenmue 3. We've been wanting it for 14 years, and it was something we thought would never happen because Sega would never make one again.

Sony just had amazing moments of gameplay and surprises. Microsoft didn't apart from DMC5. I'm not sure who is exactly thrilled about watching post-apocalyptic FPS one after the other, but this one moment made me feelsgoodman.gif.

And Sony's press conference was full of them.

I mean, sales speak for themselves. Sony exclusives, both first and third party, have always been pretty heavily single-player, cinematic focused and that has clearly worked out very well for them through the years.

As for Microsoft, they are leaning on Halo, Gears, and Forza as their big exclusives; the same exclusives they've been leaning on since the OG Xbox. Not to say they are bad games, but if those are franchises you are interested in, you bought an XBO year one.

Last year Microsoft show lots of gameplay and got criticised for not showing enough games. Why has Sony got away with what Microsoft did last year?
It's probably just a difference in the games that were shown. The past 2 (2016 & 2017) Nintendo directs focused largely on one game and people praised those to high heaven (This year's one seems to have finally hit a nerve though). I'm assuming people were just more interested in the games shown at Sony this year vs. Microsoft last year.

Microsoft had the conference I've expected from Sony for the past two years. Sony, just show me the goods. No need for the theatrics.

Looks like it's a wrap. Overwhelmingly MS. Congrats to them on a great year and really turning the tide on their image with gamers.
