Following the recent firing of James Gunn over the resurfacing of old tweets, Star Wars: The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson deleted some 20,000 tweets of his own. Since Johnson is also a Disney employee, many assumed that this was done as the result of an order from on high, so the company could avoid any further embarrassment/PR nightmares, should any offensive remarks be lurking in the filmmaker's old Twitter history.
"No official directive at all, and I don’t think I’ve ever tweeted anything that bad," he wrote. "But it’s nine years of stuff written largely off the cuff as ephemera, if trolls scrutinizing it for ammunition is the new normal, this seems like a 'why not?' move."
