"JK Rowling has defended the casting of a Korean actress as Voldemort's snake Nagini in the Fantastic Beasts sequel. The latest trailer has revealed Claudia Kim as Nagini and sees her transform into a snake. Some have criticised the fact the only Asian actor in the cast plays a reptile that is a villain's slave. But JK Rowling tweeted that Nagini is based on 'the Naga', which are 'snake-like mythical creatures of Indonesian mythology.' She added: 'They are sometimes depicted as winged, sometimes as half-human, half-snake. Indonesia comprises a few hundred ethnic groups, including Javanese, Chinese and Betawi.' Rowling has been criticised in the past for the lack of diversity in her Harry Potter books and one fan accused her of the casting of Nagini as an Asian woman as an afterthought to try and increase representation. Why do public figures even entertain these morons anymore? If they don't include "enough" minorities, they get shit... if they include more minorities, they get shit... just stop pandering and the sense of self entitlement will eventually diminish...

Where is that video with that one chick who looks like Boxxie pointing out that it's never enough for SJWs. No matter what you do, how much diversity you insert, it's never enough (I like the video because it uses a clip of someone complaining about a fat woman being casted but she is skinny fat and not fat fat. I like fat women and have no idea what the fuck she's talking about).

Remember, Potter fans are the same shitheads who want to retroactively penalize Rowling for not having the magical foreknowledge to add gay characters even though that would have been too envelope pushing for a children's series from 1997-2007 and the books were controversial enough.

Plus ya know, she probably didn't even think about it because tokenism wasn't a thing back then like it is today.

I just find it funny how they expect books from 20 years ago to somehow magically live up to the standards of today, as if Rowling could see the future.

People always take things too far and are impossible to please these days.

The argument that media could be a little more diverse was fair, but people got what they asked for and they're still whining because it's not about actually wanting to see more diversity in the media, it's just online attention whoring and "look how virtuous I am" back patting.

It's got to nothing to do with anything but Twitter circle jerks and the sooner content creators realize this and just ignore it the better.

I don't care about all this crap (I don't watch the movies anyway) but if she was, why would she cast a Korean instead of an Indonesian then? I'm surprised she doesn't get any flak for that. But hey, apparently only "skin color" matters. Bunch of hypocrites.

Her reasoning makes sense to have an Asian to play as a naga. I feel like people always have some dumb agenda to push and are angry because everyone else aren’t. Most don’t really give a fuck, they just want to watch the movie in peace.

The point that seems to be overlooked here is that people asked for diversity and the response was to cast a minority as a villain.

Choosing to respond to criticism about a lack of diversity in your movies and responding by making the villain the diverse character just looks bad given the context. There is a long history of making minorities the villains in films and its something that alot of people are tired of seeing. They want minority actors in major starring roles not just as side characters or villains.

So why not have a minority come up with a movie, then? For all the crap Tyler Perry gets, he makes a lot of movies. Why isn't there an Asian version of him?

If you want something done, instead of complaining about white people not being diverse enough, make your own movies

And for that matter, why is Hollywood (or England) obligated to make movies starting Asians, when you have movies being made in Asian countries? Hong Kong produces a lot of them. So does India (Bollywood). Do people there harass producers to cast white people? I don't think so.

Well, that's the first and foremost mistake that was made. Artists should not respond to criticism at all. You either like it or move on.

To be fair I bet there are quite a few people thinking exactly this. Like Kate Morgan who wants to kill all white males ad even suggesting pregnant women to take a trip to an abortion clinic if they are pregnant with a white boy.
