Medievil Remastered news coming "in the next week or two", Shawn Layden is "very excited, big update on Medievil".

Medievil is neat. I disliked the clunky controls when I tried the original (only sunk about 30m in, admittedly) but 3rd-person action-platformers are rare nowadays so I'll see how the remaster turns out.

Glad to hear this is still happening.

MediEvil 2 is one of my favorite games, I just love everything about it's artstyle, music, setting and general atmosphere.

Unfortunately I've never actually beaten the original MediEvil though I've certainly played it.

Hopefully this remaster will actually contain both games, which is the reason for the delay and that this might even lead to an all new game, it would be pretty crazy to think of a MediEvil 3 finally happening after like, 20 years.

Crash had his N. Sane trilogy, Spyro is Reignited... what does Sir Dan get? MediEvil: Exhumed? MediEvil: Unearthed?

I LOVED Med1! One of the few PS1 classics that can nail atmosphere like that, balance Seriousness and Comedy perfectly.

Med2 was mediocre. For everything it fixed, it created a new problem.
  • Health pools fill you Faster, but now they don't respawn.
  • The in-game cutscenes where much better, but there were much fewer FMVs
  • The zombies had more polygons, but now there was only one skin for them.
  • The stages where bigger, but also much fewer.
  • The chalices didn't give you crap like health and coins, but there where no hall of heroes.
  • It took place in Victorian London, but lacked the Victorian atmosphere.
  • Dan had a few partners in crime, that didn't do anything dump exposition and require saving.
  • The settings borrowed from a lot of spooky Victorian Literature, but the story was allover the place (especially after the boxing match)
  • The game was harder, and the enemies much more annoying.
  • Each level had it's own music, but half of the music was mediocre at best.
  • Dan had a love interest, that he barely spend a scene with that dumb damnsel.
  • The game had two endings, but getting all chalices gives you the bad ending. (people intentionally skip chalices here)
  • You where supposed to fight a godzila sized queen of England as a final boss, but it got changed mid development to fight a generic demon.
  • There was more geometry and verticality to the levels, but there was also unpredictable fall damage.
  • Dan could speak....

Med Rez on the PSP was a mess!
  • It went for comedy rather than the balance of the first.
  • The new voice acting was more cartoony, annoying and generally worse than the original.
  • The game now worked like a 3rd person shooter... with melee weapons.
  • The camera where never fixed to highlight special rooms.
  • Everyone was ugly as fuck.
  • It was full of annoying tutorials.
  • The best stages where missing.
  • Zarok turns into a Jafar snake at the end (oh, NOW you decided to cut the comedy!...)
I pray now for three things.
  1. They don't follow the steps of the crappy remake on the PSP.
  2. They fix the minor gripes the original had (unreplenishable lightning and no weapon swaping)
  3. They instead remake Med2 with better characters, story, the original planed final boss, and proper endings.

I strongly disagree with you on these points.

The game has a GREAT Victorian atmosphere, gave me a love of Victorian culture that continues to this day, I just don't understand what you mean.

The soundtrack is great.

The "bad ending" was a sequel hook, yeah, it confused me for years too but if you look into what the planned MediEvil 3 was going to be it makes a lot more sense, but because we never got 3 it was confusing.

It is a shame the Buckingham palace level was cut though.

The atmosphere didn't grab me because of the color palets they choose for the second level, They did a much better job with white chapel, but that was the only other level in the city, and I hated the docs.

The sequel hook ending was the text-book definition of a bad ending.
Returning to a bizarre past...
That was like waking from a nightmare in another nightmare. If it meant to hook me on a sequel, it failed, as it showed me something so bizarre that I had no interest of knowing, and suggested an environment that I already played on the first game. Think of the secret ending of Kingdom Hearts 1&2 for a proper sequel hook.

The Buckingham level would had given the game some proper climax. Lets face it. Palethorn was a weak villain compare to Zarok. He didn't have a castle, or proper minions, or put up a fight. He was a cockney jerk who botched his plan right at the beginning, and the only intimidating about him was that for some unknown reason he had an airship.

Is the voice actor of Sir Dan Fortesque. He was teasing he might work again in the character practicing with a cube in the head.

Modern graphics, especially lighting, can really bring life to a game like Medievil.

If they give this remake a Tim Burton stopmotion movie feel, it would be brilliant.

Hopefully they completely revamp controls, it was far too easy to miss a jump or even walk over the edge in the original game.

Trailer's up! Looks great to me, though I hope they aren't charging much considering it's one short remake.

Combat looks very unpolished
As in, compared to the original, or it always has? It's a remake, not a reimagining. They're going for the 1:1 feel like they did with Crash and Spyro.

Impressive. Day one but, where is Medievil 2?
Probably coming later based on how well this one does. I imagine at that point you can re-use a lot of the assets and get it out quite quickly. MediEvil 2 wasn't as commercially or critically successful, bear in mind.
