Will you be buying Fallout 76?

Don't think anyone will given the vitriol and general negativity I've read here and elsewhere. Me I'm intrigued and may well get it once Red Dead is over.

I'm hearing reports that the game has gone live on PC about 30mins ago. Seems like they either fucked up their launch times or just did a global release when NZ hit the 14th.

I really like Fallout and the aesthetics Bethesda has brought to the franchise. I have Fallout 76 preordered and I'm going to play it.

*I have a handful of Fallout mechandise. E.g.: bobble heads, mugs and t-shirts.

I'd love a traditional Fallout. I just want to see West Virginia and all its folklore.

The Bethesda version of that song butchered the John Denver classic.

They must have lost the rights to the song or something. Their YouTube version doesn't live up to John Denver's.

That John Denver is full of shit, man

I think they will have strong numbers the first couple of weeks.
People are starting to finish RDR2 and need a new fix.
But I think it will crater after that.
How will the game work if you start it a month after everyone else?
It will be griefing city.
I sure they have a GTAV online system of making money because they will need it.

I thought Fallout 4 was just kind of OK, not great but decent.... it looks like 76 takes most of what I did like right out of the game.

The explanation for caps being used in 76 is wack. The hotel was doing a promotion with Nuka Cola to launch Quantum and guests could exchange caps for services, so all the robots etc are still programmed to except caps.

🤣 biff tannen that shit bethesda, new timeline confirmed. This must be why the Hub and Shady Sands started using caps, gg.

At the moment no, I saw a list of currency transactions on the store along with a 60-70 pound offering of the game, it's rediculous.

I'm interested if the price dropped right down to try but I'll never pay for currency.

You should never use Metacritic user scores as an actual indication of game quality, but they're often useful when games are broken, buggy or incomplete, and Jesus tittyfucking Christ:

For context, the other games to get review bombed this hard were the likes of Battlefront 2 and Metal Gear Survive and Ghostbusters.

Nah. Even to explore the game’s contents it needs to be up and running. Any day one reviews would be complete horse shit to begin with

Game seems to have gotten a steep price drop here in South Africa also. But even if it’s free I still wouldn’t take it

No, and it really sucks. I'm a huge Fallout fan, and even from the most optimistic and positive videos I've seen regarding 76, it just sounds sad...

"If you wanted Fallout 5, this isn't it."
"If you expected a Fallout sequel or prequel, this isn't it."
"This experience is for those fans that want to enjoy more Fallout, but are able to do it without a strong story, memorable quests, or even characters."

I want to give it a chance because it's Fallout. But at the same time, nothing about it has sounded appealing other than the name and brand. I'll certainly keep an eye on it to see how it does. But my plans are to keep playing RDR2.

I bought it, and regret it. Fallout 76 just isn't fun, for me at least.

The story is a mess in both content and context. There's so many holotapes, that you can't listen to one entirely without finding two more that you'll then need to remember so you can find them in your inventory and listen to them. That's also assuming there's no one making noise around you. There are a lot of quests that send you to a person, but in every case that person is dead.

The gameplay loop is also incredibly frustrating. The inventory weight count is so low that you'll always either be right at the cap, or over-encumbered. You need to carry extra weapons around, due to ammo limitations, but you're penalized for that. So you're always fighting the AP bar. It sucks. Exploration is the only thing to do in this game and you're penalized for every step you take, and item you pick up.

I'm not having any fun, and now I'm stuck with my purchase.

oh man that is bad. One of the most irritating things in gaming is low weight and low inventory slot counts. I will straight up quit games because of it. (no mans sky... i think they fixed it later, but as soon as my inventory was full in 5 minutes, that was the end of my enjoyment)

Well deserved, next time you won't blindly pruchase a product... Everything you said have been hammered everywhere on the internet since 2 weeks.

Meh I feel it will get some initial pop, but anything that is multiplayer needs to snappy and polished. The reason I could never jump into PubG, and with Fallout's history, I see similar circumstances.

I enjoyed all of Bethesda Game Studio's past games. I even played a few hours of the beta. Obviously, I was wrong about the quality of Fallout 76. I thought the game would "open up" with it's systems and story after the first couple hours. I didn't expect it to be such a chore to play. I know it was my choice to purchase the game, but I honestly thought it would at least be competent.

It bothers me that this is becoming “a thing.” Gameplay systems designed to push “simulation” are taking it a little too far imo. I don’t mind a little chore management here and there but when it drowns the fun element then we have a problem

Not likely. I have a hard time getting into Bethesda Fallout games in the first place and now it's an online survival game?
Quoting myself to admit that I'm a weak, weak person.

I'm actually really enjoying it fwiw. I thought they were just going to drop me in the world and to make my own fun like Sea of Thieves, but there's always a goal on my map to eventually make my way towards.

I guess about 10% of those people actually tried the game.

Is this our FO76 thread?

ok for some reason the C.A.M.P stuff confused me, so I looked into it, learned the basic and threw it into this video:

They couldn’t just add some in-game store when they make it F2P?

they could but i don't think it'd be very profitable. f2p games are based on moment to moment instant gratification

bulk of your time will be exploring, looting and crafing with on a server with 20 something odd people you'll rarely see. i won't put BGS above some of the nefarious MTX to be had there but it's pretty lame groundwork for full-on f2p (which even ESO never resorted to)

It was in a public beta for a while and while bugs may have been fixed, the fundamental gameplay mechanics haven't changed. There's a reason it's getting review bombed. Obviously the game is not a "1.6/10", it's just a way for users to demonstrate that something is wrong, like with Steam reviews. It may seem pithy, but the backlash has certainly steered me away for now. Same happened with Battlefront 2 and boy am I glad I didn't buy into that turd.

Not after watching DreamcastGuy's review on YT. It's a game that I think a lot of people are going to enjoy but, when watching someone else play it all I can think of is "why?".

Didn't think this thread would get this many responses so thanks guys :messenger_winking:

For those that did buy it Im eager to hear your impressions.

No. Last Fallout game I bought was 3. Still haven’t finished it. Last time I played I accidentally set off the UFO dlc and have been stuck in that garbage for an eternity. Killed any desire I have to play it.

I stand my point. ;)

Fair enough. It's completely baseless, but Metacritic users being Metacritic users, I can see why you'd guess that.

Hit level 45 last night. Was so tired and sleepy but I had to unload some stuff at the vendor, but unfortunately the vendor had no money. So I server swapped to hopefully get a vendor with money, and as I'm looking at the map I notice a red circle.... It was a nuclear blast zone! I missed the nuke falling but I was in prime position to get in on the fun. So I put on my power armor and link up with some people in the blast zone for what seemed like an hour, killing dozens of 60+ enemies. Great xp but sadly the loot was a little lacking, though I assume it was due to the blast location not being ideal (it was a low level area).
Long story short, ended up finishing the night at 50 and making friends to launch nukes with in the future :)
Also I'm in love with my stealth melee build. Nothing is quite as satisfying as beating the shit out of a Scorchbeast with a rocket-powered sledgehammer.

Me: "I guess about 10% of those people actually tried the game."
You: "I tried the game."

Mmmmmh...

I never said I tried the game. In fact, I said I had been steered away. My point is that it's unreasonable to assume that 90% of those people hadn't tried the game when it was readily available to try for free. But, I guess neither of us will know for sure.

I wasn't planning to get this, but I have some time off and drunk bought it.

Kind of surprised how much I like it. I've been mainlining Forsaken for 2+ months, and FO76 broke that addiction--at least for now.

It's buggy as shit and ugly as sin, but co-op Fallout is amazing and so much better than I ever expected.

Every purchase of this game is a contribution to the destruction of the Fallout series. I would never buy or play FO76...Bethesda needs to check its arrogance and get the franchise back on track.

the game was fun during the beta but it was borderline of being so, the game is way to janky there are way to many 'easy to fix problems', People doubt beth will fix those spite should be able to quicky.

The real concern is the more serious problems like online component, hackers are going to be so severe. They are going to make GTA online look tame.

Not yet but I was going to pick it up however I am now really worried about the Xbox one overheating and hard reset bugs the game has that I’ve heard about.

I'm curious how many of you are playing with friends. I'm level 34 and questing with friends is where i get my enjoyment from the game. I get where Bethesda was going with this. Sure, it's glitchy, the story is entirely skippable and the world is not the best looking graphically, but after last night, my overall feeling is that I had a blast. Will this last? I think it could as long as I have people to play with, otherwise I think it will sour once I hit lvl 50 and don't know what else to do.
