Did you watch the videos I posted? Guys making bets saying the Xbox was going to win Nov NPD, that's the reason why it was a big deal and people were making videos. Lets not forget that a few people within those videos were claiming it was not looking good for the PS4 because when they see that Xbox One X, they were not going to look at their PS4 Pro\PS4 the same way.

The narrative is that they were charging 100 more for a less powerful console. It wasn't "I want to get this because it's more powerful" it's "Why are you charging me 100 more dollars for a less powerful console?"

Your argument is that Power Narrative is what failed Xbox this generation when that has not proven to be true. It's just excuses people come up with as to why Sony has been successful this generation. You showed examples of Quantum Break and other games being 720p etc.

The same THING is happening right now with the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. PS4 Pro is losing all comparisons, worse than the PS4\XB1, YET the PS4 Pro is selling better because 1) is cheaper and 2) it's the more popular brand.

Go even further to show that the Spider-Man Pro bundle is more popular than the Xbox One S slim bundle. This means that attractive exclusives and the brand is what makes it more popular.


Either way, you argument is not supported, it's just some theory that has no support. If the power narrative made the Xbox One struggle early this generation, then it would work on the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X, but it's not.

I need a bit of what you are smoking. Console wars were literally power wars back then. No, one was saying where are the games back them. People love simple narratives like that(they always did), 'its cheaper but more powerful', 'it has more games'. Heck even now the PS5/Scarlet threads are about power.

Among people like us, not the general public. If what you are positing was correct, history would look drastically different.

EDIT: you do realize a vast swath of this market is comprised of players who don't have an income of their own and rely on parents to buy one for them, yes? Most of these narratives aren't even in the discussion regarding power, and if it were, little Dick or Jane's parents would say "fuck that" when they found out the toy (and that's what it is -- a toy) cost $500. Most of those kids don't have a say in the family upgrading to a 4k television, either. Back on topic, with buying IOI they would pretty much just be getting Hitman as far as IP goes but could you see IOI having a go at any of the other IP that MS owns?

I would like to see what they could do with Perfect Dark. Even prior to this rumour I thought that PD would work quite well as an episodic game in the vein of Hitman with a growing selection of maps where new missions could incorporate previous maps. A sand box style game not unlike DeusX where there are multiple ways to achieve an objective along with a persistent skill tree where you can make your character unique and specialised towards particular skills. I am sure they would be great at the world building and the espionage aspects but not entirely sure how IOI would get on with the faster paced gun play needed for a PD game though.

Well the OneX outsold the Ps4pro in the US, they can catch up to Ps4 but i don't think they can beat the Ps4 so lat in this gen, if they learn from the mistakes they've done, i'm sure xbox is gonna get a strong comeback on the top once the new gen is rolling out

Sunset Overdrive was the only genuine "flop" out of pretty much all of Microsoft's major exclusives this gen. At least as far as commercial success goes. Ironically, Sunset also happened to be the critical darling. Go figure.

Microsoft's exlcusive/sequel situation is a long and storied tale each with their own individual background. All that combined with not getting that "mindshare" Sony and Nintendo games were getting because they weren't caught up in the backlash the Xbox One had in the e4arlier part of the generation.

Killer Instinct was successful and got 3 seasons. Every chance it gets an Xbox 5 sequel
Ryse was successful. Problem is, Crytek didnt' want to give up the IP and didn't end up wanting to work with MS again after everything that happened with Ryse
Dead Rising 3, to this day, has sold more than Street Fighter 5 and got a sequel, it just wasn't a full exclusive
Titanfall was massively successful and got a sequel that wasn't exclusive due to EA owning both the IP and Studio behind it

There were many Xbox fans who believed the Xbox One was going to do great because the casuals wanted the best versions of multi-plats, a cheap 4K Blu-Ray player etc. and That didn't happen. Posting Rand wouldn't do anything because he didn't partake in this. It's not about being Anti-Xbox, it's about posting evidence that this narrative was pushed.

I do think sony need to make a move or two though. Sony should try to acquire insomniac games and/or kojima productions. I think a headline like that would go along ways to dissolving a lot of hype and good will Microsoft has got from these studio purchases. Blunting your biggest competitors momentum and building up your own house would be worth the cost id think.

They need to make sure their new stuff is successful next gen. They can't have another diverse first 2-3 years with a bunch of those games flopping or they'll have to keep retreating back to the big thee and maybe 2-3 exceptions.
