So it's best just to turn it off? I would have thought R* would have fixed the HDR by now.HDR is broken on all consoles.
When you have Dynamic HDR, HDR, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Display HDR 400, Display HDR 500, 600, 1000, Display HDR True Black 400 and 500 then you know it's a fucking shitshow.HDR is broken on all consoles.
Horizon had really good HDR. Detroit's HDR was really good for me as well. HDR is a shitshow at the moment. And when I see shitty HDR you always hear "Well it was our artistic choice on how we think HDR should be implemented." when it just looks shit. When you have Dynamic HDR, HDR, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Display HDR 400, Display HDR 500, 600, 1000, Display HDR True Black 400 and 500 then you know it's a fucking shitshow.
I'd say looking at the above list and perhaps some more missing that the corporate fucks are too eager to push their own standard instead of settling on 1 or maybe 2.
Didn't Horizon and some other games have good HDR or can we pick the good ones on one hand?
These are more ratings and specs than standards. You don't need to "support" all of those, you just need to use the right extended color gamut/range, and RDR2 does not while many other games do a better job at it.When you have Dynamic HDR, HDR, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Display HDR 400, Display HDR 500, 600, 1000, Display HDR True Black 400 and 500 then you know it's a fucking shitshow.

Good post and yes we got the professional grade monitor in the mix as well that's part of the problem.the game content needs to be authored in an HDR pipeline

I've never understood the deal with HDR at all.
If you have a good HDR TV then believe me you'll change your opinion.I've never understood the deal with HDR at all.
Rockstar will probably never fix that. Which is really sad since
RDR2 would have been even more beautiful with proper HDR support.
Because you have not seen a good HDR Implementation on a
really good HDR device (like the Sony ZD9/Z9D).
Especially the HDR device is important in order to experience a good quality. Unfortunately most Low Budget TVs <1500€/$ won't give you an "awesome" experience. HDR with static meta data is another problem that causes problems in some cases.

Maybe so, I have a Sony 65XD9305 and honestly cannot tell what HDR even is.
That's a edge-lit VA panel with faked/baked HDR.
You need a proper HDR10 supporting TV with either OLED or full-array back lighting.
See post above. I do have one.
No you don’t... literally impossible for an edge lit to be good at HDR.
So all the reviews saying it has decent to good HDR capability is just BS? Does make sense since I barely can see any difference with HDR.
Thanks! Then I'll be playing with HDR off.Yes, on PS4 it is a menu option, on the XB you have to disable HDR on the console for all games.
Are you one of those guys who says that they can't see the difference between DVD and Blu-Ray?See post above. I do have one.

Ok. Guess I'll take any review in the future with a huge grain of salt.
If you can't see the difference between SDR and HDR on a good display then there might be something wrong with your eyes mateNo, I am not. Did you have a point?
Or at least understand the technology and what you are buying. And edge lit doing HDR is like a HD ready SDTV, yes it can decode and show a picture, but that picture is not representational of the actual source. True HDR requires zone brightness control (FALD systems) or per-pixel luminous response values (OLED/MicroLED). Your tv can not do this, so you lose the most obvious (and my favorite) part of HDR, the ability for scenes to basically blow you away with their true dynamic range.

What in the world is wrong with you two? Get over it.Nah, they're completely fine but thanks for worrying.
This isn't true, I have a KS8000 which is edge lit and its HDR is quite excellent. No you don’t... literally impossible for an edge lit to be good at HDR.

This is 100% bullshit and ignorant. While Edge lit is not usually found with high end TVs it’s every bit as capable if done right and can offer every bit the experience of FALD.No you don’t... literally impossible for an edge lit to be good at HDR.

The Sony 930E (2017 model) is an edgelit TV and to this day has one of the best contrast ratios of any LED and has excellent HDR.

Like Nintendo, R* seems to get a pass on many things.I still can't believe Rockstar was given a pass on this. Only a couple of websites even really touched on it, Eurogamer the most probably.
To me it's just as fucking egregious as the whole Fallout nylon bag scam. Sticking HDR on the box when in fact it's actually nothing should be cause for a public apology and a promise to do better. Saying that the PS4 version is 4K AND HDR should be cause for a recall.
Maybe so, I have a Sony 65XD9305 and honestly cannot tell what HDR even is.
That's odd because I've seen AC Odyssey in 4K HDR (Xbox One X) on a Sony 55XD9305 (so the same TV as you except in 55 inches) and the results for an edge-lit TV are spectacular (and I'm saying that as an owner of a Sony 65ZD9) so I'm guessing there must be some issues with your TV settings because your TV can output a great HDR presentation.
I had an edge lit 4K set (Samsung JS8500) and while HDR wasn't as good as in a new QLED or OLED it still looked really nice. In games that made good use of it (like FFXV) there was a very obvious and very clear difference when turning it on.So all the reviews saying it has decent to good HDR capability is just BS? Does make sense since I barely can see any difference with HDR.

Thanks Cranberrys! Yeah I find it odd too. I guess I will check all the settings one last time when I get the chance but cannot understand what I might have missed.
Have you tried any of the Ubisoft games on HDR on your TV ? So far, from all the games I've played in HDR on my set, I found that AC Origins, AC Odyssey and Far Cry 5 were the most spectacular, while others not so much. I'm currently playing RE2 Remake and while the game is awesome, the HDR (at least on my set) is pretty dull.
I can ask my friend about his settings if you like, since he's got the same set as you (except in 55) but whatever the problem is, it's certainly not your TV.
You can also try some 4k HDR Blu-ray like Interstellar which also looks awesome in HDR on my friend's 9305 (especially all the Imax sequences).
Thats great if you could! I only have Watch dogs 2 from ubi but i will try that this weekend when Im back home
AC Origins and Odyssey with HDR on on my KS8000. Sure, no difference. Tralalala...
It's huge.
Up to this day, nothing, no fix for the broken checkerboarding, no fix for the HDR, nothing......Rockstar could at least have given us 1620p or 1800p on the PRO instead of the 1920x2160, the latter will never scale nicely to 4K, that should have been fixed ages ago.......The best way to play RDR2 on a PS4 Pro is to turn off HDR and set the PS4's output to 1080p. The blur will be gone and it will run at a locked 30fps as well as minimize fan noise. 1080p actually looks sharper and clearer than the 4k setting because of that nasty blurring effect in 4k. As everyone has already said, the HDR is poorly implemented and causes it to look washed out.
