Nintendo Direct Feb 13 Announced 2 PM PT

jshackles

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
This Direct was fantastic!!!

Games, games, games. I had low expectations going in, but these announcements mostly blew me away. Made my RPG-loving heart warm.

Why choose one of the worst AC title to port?
Why end on a 20 something year old port? Nintendo.

I always try to keep expectations in check but as not an RPG fan I didnt love this direct.
Mario Maker finally coming and a Yoshi date were fine enough for me at least. A lot of co-op love too so thats cool.

No Metroid at all :messenger_loudly_crying:

My first real - I paid, beat the game - journey into Zelda was BOTW so I'm hurt too, The Switch has been the perfect console to introduce me to new experiences I missed out on as a primary XBOX shooter lover. I'd buy a Prime trilogy remake day one.

shame that we still don't know anything about animal crossing but this was still a very awesome direct. Astral Chain looked fucking nuts.

I’m hyped for Link’s awakening and Astral Chain. I can’t wait to see more of those.
And there is a lot of demo to test today.

Wow, great direct. Astral Chain Nr. 1 for me, but FE looked great and Link's Awakening as well and a lot more. Gonna be a good Switch year.

Was hoping for some Luigi's Mansion 3 news but still a great direct. Looking to try the yoshi demo and the DxM demo.

Awesome direct

Links Awakening looked like 3D DOT GAME HEROES!

Lots of games coming sooner than I expected

but anyone expecting Metroid this early is crazy lol thats late 2020 at the earliest

Link's Awakening looks awesome, FE looks good, and Astral Chain out of nowhere and looks like a lot of fun. Both unexpected and both loo great!

Link's Awakening being a crazy toy-like dreamworld actually fits the game well...
since the whole game is a dream[/spoiler}

Not really a lot of news for Daemon X Machina, but as soon as giant robots were shown I was going to buy it. The Switch really is turning into a great place to go for RPGs too.

GODDAMN, NINTENDO. I am far too excited to sleep right now. Holy shit. Astral Chain, Link's Awakening, Super Mario Maker 2 and demos for Daemon X Machina and Yoshi. And Fire Emblem looks cool as well (Who put Harry Potter in my Fire Emblem? Haha). This direct was fucking lit.

THIS is how you do a gaming show! Strictly games and filled with them. God damnit cringy MS.

It really is? Only 3 games were new/interesting the rest were years old ports and a 26 years old remake. That's not why I got this console.

Astral Chain directly on my Day 1 List. At least will have something new to play in my switch this year.

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
Oh please. This kind of complaint is so silly. Just because there was nothing to your liking does not mean there was nothing.

I do find it funny that the less likely game (Hellblade) gets announced, but a game that's practically done (Metroid Prime Trilogy), isnt. Its becoming a similar scenario as Waluigi not in Smash.

AC3 and Liberation to Switch is an interesting one though, DF will have a field day here.

All in all good direct, but a lot of emphasis on RPG and adventures with bright colors, one surprise announcement (Hellblade) but no Overwatch (expected) but also no Prime Trilogy. Hmm.

Well, that was certainly something and I mean that in a good way. Normally things like this have at least one or two games that I see and know I will buy, but this one? Geez, quite a few and the best part is how soon so many of them are, I love it.

Edit: The Rune Factory 4 announcement was a big surprise too, but was not prepared for there to actually be a Rune Factory 5. My wife and my daughter both LOVE those games.

Link's Awakening art direction was undermining. Why bother changing the Between World's character design (for 3d models).

"Wow, look, nothing!"

It was pretty good. I don't care much for Mario Maker 2 and 2D Zelda has never been my cup of tea, so those two games are more of a disappointment to me. Those were the two big announcements, and they're just kinda ehh. Still, pretty decent line-up otherwise. I liked Fire Emblem, looks great, Astral Chain is interesting, Battle Royale Tetris certainly appeals to me. I think it'll be a decent Switch year for me, probably a bit better than last year.

decent amount of new games and a version of links awakening that will actually play well makes this the best general direct in a long time.

Immediate thoughts:

Positive:
* Mario Maker 2 looks cool.
* Bloodstained footage.
* Daemon X Machina’s getting a demo.
* Tetris 99 is an interesting-enough spin on the game.
* FE Three Houses seems like a departure from previous FEs, for better or for worse.

Negative:
* I already hate the art direction of the Link’s Awakening remake.
* Half of it was more ports. 🙄
* Mario Maker 2 was the biggest announcement of the direct.

That was a very good Direct with a variety of upcoming games that caught my attention like Astral Chain, ONINAKI, and Fire Emblem. Nintendo be like, "Who needs E3?"

i really like the art direction in LA. tbh it doesn't look all that different from ALBW to me, but i never played that game a whole lot.

top down Zelda always felt chibi to me, from the very first entry. it's my headcanon reason the overworld Link sprite is exactly the same as the one in the side scrolling parts of dungeons.

Please let us disable those shadows in MARIO Maker, it changes charming 2D levels into theatre sets :/... anyways, Seitch is perfect for it :).

Very excited for Fire Emblem as it looks to have an immensely engaging and varied experience.

Excited for anything Link’s Awakening related by default, but the chibi like 3D art style does not do it for me... super detailed, polished, and crafted... but can’t at least Nintendo try to make good HD 2D anymore?! :/...

Thank you for this!

Nintendo sure knows how to pick bad artstyles to remove your interest in a game, not to mention the weird perspective of shadows and the issue with seeing Y axis objects like telling what walls or objects are higher than others. In fact, the artstyle contradicts the original LA, since they already had art work in a style that's ALREADY been done before and all they had to do is remake the game in that style, now they have this chibi link and object dimensions reminiscent of Mega Man powered up.

I'm also certain they will make the Links Awakening remakes gameplay nowhere near as polished, quick and engaging. Looks like it's going to be slowed down.

For new games Link's Awakening,Astral Chain and Oninaki all seem VERY appealing to me. Rune Factory 4 is also a plus even if it is a port (although it was never released physically in Europe).

The new additions in DQXI are also cool although to be honest i'm not sure if i'd double dip just for them. I wish they ported the 3DS version instead (or as well). That i'd surely buy.

Link's Awakening is the best 2D Zelda and it deserves much better in my opinion.

That art style just doesn't fit this game, at all. The nasty colour from the DX version was bad enough.

If we get rid of the ports and updates we get:

  • Mario Maker 2
  • Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
  • Dragon Quest XIS
  • Dragon Quest Builders 2
  • Disney Tsum Tsum Festival
  • Rune Factory 4 remake + Rune Factory 5 teased
  • ONINAKI (I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear team)
  • Yoshi's Crafted World
  • Fire Emblem: Three Houses
  • Tetris 99
  • Unravel Two
  • Chocobo's Dungeon
  • Astral Chain from Platinum
  • Link's Awakening remake

And then we can get rid of the games that already had gameplay trailers and we’re left with:

  • Mario Maker 2
  • Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
  • Dragon Quest XIS
  • Dragon Quest Builders 2
  • Disney Tsum Tsum Festival
  • Rune Factory 4 remake + Rune Factory 5 teased
  • ONINAKI (I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear team)
  • Tetris 99
  • Unravel Two
  • Astral Chain from Platinum
  • Link's Awakening remake

None of those particularly interest me besides Mario Maker 2 (which is basically just a Mario Maker 1 expansion) and maybe Dragon Quest (never played DQ before).

That is what I meant by “Wow, it’s nothing”.

Celshading was invented to avoid situations like these. It's like Nintendo saw the "soul - soulless" pics on the internet and went "hold my beer".

Really really excited for Astral Chain. Mario Maker 2 is cool. Very happy DQXI Switch will be getting the 3DS stuff. Link's Awakening remake is cool, not digging the art direction though, as long as it plays as good as A Link Between Worlds.

I wouldn't be surprised if Links Awakening started development on the 3DS and switched platforms late development, especially with the level of bump mapping on those textures.
Well, whoever said Nintendo was holding back Metroid Prime Trilogy to pair it closer to Prime 4's release was right.
Which is super dumb. The fact Metroid Prime 4 had to restart development means giving it to us sooner than later is far more important now, since Metroid fans are already annoyed enough.
