Why do some Switch owners, act like only Nintendo games matter?

For third party games, I’d rather play those games on PC or PS4. Better controller and better performance.

Did you see the direct last night? Loads of new games are coming to the Switch, with a minimal amount of them being ports.
Let them release those titles, first. Nintendo needs it's time to deliver. Wouldn't be surprised if most games get delayed over and over again. Just like for the Wii U "no one knew it is so hard to create a game in HD" ….

PC is my main platform but I'd say the Switch Pro Controller is very high up on the list of best controllers available, personally!

Nintendo has the most rabid fan base. They will defend Nintendo and all the bad deciaions they make more than any other platform.

This is a common occurrence in any place where fans of something congregate.

It is a novel phenomenon we like to refer to as... FANaticism.

It has been around since the days of the Amstrad, C64 and Spectrum. It isn't a new thing, and it definitely isn't exclusive to the Switch. Every console has their own kind of fanboys, and they will fanatically support anything the company does or creates, whether its good or bad.

Can’t say I have that mentality, I’ll shot on pubs and games if they screw up or if I feel justified to believe they have. I for one am not a fan of ports with minimal effort being sold for full price ala DKC:TF and nSMBU.

As for cross-plat, unless I feel double dipping I’ll usually buy those specifically for other, hardware superior systems such as my X.

As for your question, some people dedicate their time to a single or just a few consoles at a time so obviously some people just grow attached. There are people who act as though only Xbox matters, or PlayStation, or Sega, etc. it’s just a matter of preference. But of course that won’t stop people from trolling one side or another (anyone remember that killer12-whatever guy?)

Because I don't particularly care for portability (except for a handful of games) so if a game is not exclusive I'll get it on PS4 or PC where it's pretty much always going to look and run better (probably notoriously so), and it's often going to be cheaper too.

Op even brings up games like Wolfenstein and Doom. Why would I pay $60 for a 30fps sub Hd version when I can get the HD, 60Fps version on every other platform for under $20 ?

So the only third party games on Swith that matter to me are the exclusive ones (Like SMTV or octopath)

I think it all comes to the same as always.
"What I like is better than everything else and you should agree with me or you are wrong."

Also, the feeling of being part of a certain group of people and the need to show the world how cool that is.

Because most hardcore gaming fans buy Nintendo consoles for their exclusives and nothing else.
Also not everyone might care about low budget niche Japanese games and indie games.

?

Negative just for the sake of being negative. Why don´t your sell your fucking console and get some outdoor air, seems like a more healthier approach.

Its because it says "Nintendo" on it. Dont get me wrong, i love my Switch, but some folks needs to get their head out of the sand. Remember when Breath of the Wild was released? DDOS'ing Jim Sterlings site becase he dared to give it 7/10? BoTW was a really great game, but it wasnt the second coming of christ, like LOTS of nintendo-fans said it was. If it had been released by, say, Ubisoft, it woul.d have been called good or mediocre even. People who complain about "drought" is the people who only want games produced by nintendo, because everything else is a "poor mans breath of the wild." And in their "loyalty" they forget that nintendo makes bad games aswell. but since its nintendo it must be good.

anyway. there are lots and LOTS of great indies on the Switch atm. like really great ones. Dead Cells, undertale, war groove, hollow knight, just to name a few. If you only want to play nintendogames on your switch, wait 10-20 years and buy the switch mini, with all the best nintendogames released for it included. Let the rest of us enjoy the myriad of games for it in peace.

I am interested in third party games, but most of the ones coming to switch are old, expensive and don't run as well as I would like. If I didn't get the game before on another platform, I probably would not get it for switch either.

In addition, I bought my switch specifically to play Nintendo exclusives, so that's what I'll focus on when it comes to announcements in directs and stuff.

i've already played rocket league/fortnite/doom/fifa/diablo etc on PC. the experience on switch isn't terrible but why would i want to pay more money for a game i've already played just so i can play it again with crappier graphics/performance?????

the only games i'm interested in on Switch are the games I can't play anywhere else: zelda, mario, pokemon, animal crossing, etc.

THAT'S WHY NINTENDO OWNERS ACT LIKE ONLY NINTENDO GAMES MATTER.

Lets be honest here, it's only the same situation with PlayStation owners too.

Everyone who loves a console is going to act in a similar way.

1st party exclusives have been raved about for the past 5 years or whatever it is that the ps4 and Xbox one has been out, now the switch is out and doing really well in sales, while pumping out 1st party exclusives like people demand from the other 2, people suddenly dislike 1st party exclusives and say it doesn't matter. It is a little confusing.

Personally I love the switch and I'm happy to see anything come to the system and I applaud a developer willing to put in the time to optimise a game for the system.

Besides that, there's nothing wrong with talking about 1 console, people go on and on about ps4 superior in first party titles, so why cant people do the same for the switch?

Sorry, but I have to object to this. Where is the proof that it was "Nintendo fans" doing this DDOS'ing?

How many people do you think it would even take to implement a DDOS'ing attack? By definition it should be at least 2 (distributed denial of service) but I'm pretty sure even one person could arrange for a DDoS if they were willing to pay.

Just it's like you are implying that there is some secret cabal of Nintendo fans who saw his 7/10 review and thought "right let's all get together and DDOS his site"?

Jim Sterling whining that "waaaa Nintendo fans DDoS'd my website cos of my review" isn't proof of anything.

How many people do you think would be involved? 2? 3? 100? 1000?
Did they plan it in advance? Set it all up together? Who was this group?
Or was it just random people all deciding to do a DDoS at the same time?
Or are you just talking shite?

I own a Switch. But I only have a handful of games. Breath of The Wild, Odyssey, Octopath, XBC2 and Monster Hunter. But in all honesty I have to say that Switch owners in general have become the most irritating group of people out there.

It's true. They seem to want everything to be ported to the Switch, even games that use 2 screens like 3DS games. They also whine and complain that Nintendo still supports the 3DS. They pretend like the Switch changed everything because it's portable but many of us have been playing portable games for years. Portable gaming has been a thing since atleast the Game Boy released in 1989. We have been playing console ports on handhelds since atleast the Game Boy Advance.

The Switch is a tablet with controllers. It's fine but it's not revolutionary like so many seem to believe.

I enjoy first party Nintendo games a lot but my biggest reason I got Switch was for its third party exclusives like....

Astral Chain
Daemon X Machina
Shin Megami Tensei V
Bayonetta 1 - 3
Octopath Traveler

Don't forget Dragon Marked for Death and Rune Factory 5!

Is that Lapis game one as well?

Other than that, games like Bomberman and Puyo Puyo are better on Switch over PS4 if you don't care about trophies too.

Same for Sonic Mania.

I think the OP is talking about fans only caring for Nintendo content rather than the exclusive Third Party content and perhaps third party games that are better on Switch over PS4 (Dragon Quest 11 S is debatable and will anger a few).

because when you own a ps4 or xbox one, the only thing that matters for a Switch is exclusives

not my mindset but:

because of the mantra people buy nintendo consoles to play nintendo games. so going in with that mindset makes all other games irrelevant.

also, the fact that the switch is typically a companion console, and many of the 3rd party games are multiplat (and typically better performing) elsewhere.

i mean, if you own a Nintendo system, it makes sense you would be hyped about Nintendo games. being it's the only place to play them.

nothing really wrong with that. so long as you aren't insisting other people share your worldview, and you aren't raining down judgement on others, think whatever you want.

Playing switch just for Nintendo games is a Mantra that really sucks and i don't support it at all. In the snes/nes days we had lots of third party support and I remember that times fondly. It's a good thing we have them back now on switch.

This is it, chief. The Switch is getting the worst version of games available on other platforms. I don't really care about playing it portable, so why would I play Doom at 720p30 when I can play it at 1080p60 with much better graphics? Why buy indie games for the Switch when I can buy them on Steam for less money?

It's hard for me to promote non-Nintendo games when something as basic as Dead Cells can't even run on Switch without slowdown.

You can almost always get the non-Nintendo games elsewhere, often earlier and with better graphics. Plus Nintendo games are why people buy the platforms. After this year I doubt many people will complain about the system’s lineup again.

console platform userbases be like that all the time whenever their platform has enough first party AAA spectacle games to justify that attitude.

ask anyone on NeoGAF or ResetERA why a Playstation 4 is worth buying.

Are you going to feign surprise when 90% of responders give you the ol'

"Bloodborne, God of War, Spider-Man, Horizon, Uncharted 4"

I would hope not

Isn't that the reason why people buy the switch in the first place?
I agree, I know I bought a PS4 for 3rd party games and a switch for Indy and Nintendo games, so when switch gets a port of a AAA game, I'm usually not too excited (unless it's a port in comparison to DQXI)

This doesn't mean that people with a switch don't care about 3rd party games. Look at how excited people are for Tetris 99 (which although published by Nintendo, is made by Arika) and the new Platinum game, or even smaller scale titles like Rune Factory 4-5.

It just comes down to owning multiple consoles and the reasons people buy a switch. Honestly, if by some grace of God, Doom Eternal came out for the Switch with graphical parity of the other guys, Id be super excited to own it on Switch. As it is, I'm excited for the new Doom on PS4 and Mario Maker 2 in the Switch.

I feel like we didn't read the same OP. The gist of what I read was about Nintendo fans complaining about not enough games for the Nintendo when third party support is hitting its stride. The argument is Nintendo owners seemingly ignoring third party games. Doesn't that sound like Nintendo fans taking the piss out of Nintendo for no good reason?

Additionally, I may need to have you ride along with me as I browse Nintendo forums and sub-reddits so you can see the intense amount of griping, pissing, and moaning about Nintendo prices, Nintendo substandard online, Nintendo inferior hardware, and Nintendo not releasing the obvious game I think everyone wants. I don't see many defenders. We all just keep buying the consoles because their games are generally better than the AAA titles found on other platforms. I say generally... there are remarkable titles on all platforms.

Why you people ignore third party games like Astral Chain, Daemon X Machina, Bayonetta, Dragon Quest XI S and Oninaki? Last time I checked they quality third party games.

I was just on era and they were talking about this year is gonna be so great for switch. Its all kids games and bad ports
dude you think Smash Ultimate is a port
don't know why you think anyone should be taking your opinion re:anything Nintendo seriously
your disdain for them is more 'rabid' than their fanbase is

Most first party titles are actually ports on switch so far. Good for those who hadn't played them, but from my perspective they are years old they they want full price ...

Wii U ports:
Mario Kart 8 DX
NSMBU
Pokken Tournament
Captain Toad
DKCTF
Hyrule Warriors

Total - 6

New games:
BotW (It released the same day as the Wii U version, and most people associate it with the Switch, so it's more a multiplatform release)
Mario Odyssey
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
ARMS
Splatoon 2
1-2 Switch
Nintendo Labo
Snipperclips
Mario Tennis Aces
Pokemon Let's Go!
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Kirby Star Allies
Super Mario Party
Sushi Striker (see BotW)
Yoshi's Crafted World
Tetris 99
Box Boy + Box Girl
Super Mario Maker 2
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Astral Chain
Link's Awakening (full on remake)

Total - 21

Majority? I don't think so.

I take this so called "kids game" over most of AAA western games.

It is a multiplatform release but it was designed as a Wii U game in the same way that Twilight Princess was designed as a Gamecube game.

I'm talking 3rd party games on the whole. Good games are good games, regardless of where they are. Sure Doom looks and runs better on the PS4, but that doesn't make the Switch version bad, plus you can take the Switch version with you, something you can't say about the other versions really. That's really what it comes down to. If you care about portability, then there should be plenty to play on Switch. If not, then that's fine, but don't try and pretend the games retroactively stop existing.

well mario and zelda series matter to me too when i just wanna escape from all those big serious and most times empty games. look at zelda BOTW what it can do on old WiiU system with all physics , destruction, randomones that even big boys on powerfull consoles cant achieve. amazing.

why do some pickup truck owners act like pickup trucks are the only cars that matter?

why do some sports fans act like their team are the only one that matters?

why do some consumers of x act like x is the only thing that matters?

are we not allowed to just like one thing? we have to be fully invested in the whole market, we have to buy all consoles and keep tally on sales figures for a zillion developers? seems like waste of time. i just wanna play games. i don't have the time or money for 3 full time consoles.

I didn't purchase my Switch to play multplatform games on the go. I purchased it for the exclusives, just like I did with my Pro. I also have a 1080ti that I use to play multiplatform games at ultra settings 4K/60fps.

The Switch version is usually inferior and a port, BUT it is portable. If I want the ability to play the game on the go, I'll get it on Switch, which is kind of the point. If I have no desire to play it on the go, I'll get the higher quality and/or cheaper version (price is usually a higher priority, but usually this is BOTH). Most of the games that come out, I already had anyway if I was interested in them. But for example when I went to buy DK: Tropical Freeze, I could either pay $60 for the Switch version or $20 for the Wii U version (digital, Walmart still had codes after Nindy took it down), and I wasn't planning on playing it on the go. I'm not an idiot, so the Wii U version was obvious.

Of course, exclusives are just that, and that is OK. I have no problem busting out my Pro Controller (or Gamecube controller in the case of SSBU). There are rare cases where the Switch version is on sale or something, as well.

This is really what it comes down to. If you don't care about playing games on the go, and aren't into ports, Japanese or niche titles, then the Switch probably isn't a console for you unless you like Nintendo games. That's fine. I think it's more a problem that some people still refuse to accept that the gaming industry isn't one-dimensional. Not every platform needs to be a 1:1 competitor with the two main systems, and that different companies can fill different market needs. And the Switch doesn't need to be a carbon clone of the PS4 to have decent third party support.

That's basically what I'm trying to say. People complained about Nintendo not getting third party games for years, and when they actually do, now they complain about not getting more Nintendo games, or that these games suddenly don't count for x, y, or z.
