EVO Apologizes And Cuts Off 'Dead or Alive 6' Stream For Being Too Sexy

EVO-Japan-Dead-or-Alive-6.jpg
During the EVO Japan live-stream on Twitch, Team Ninja and SNK announced a partnership to bring Mai Shiranui and another character from King of Fighters XIV to Dead or Alive 6. However, during the demonstration of Dead or Alive 6, EVO president Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar had the stream shut down and apologized.
t featured the two Japanese models goofing around in between the rounds when Dead or Alive 6 producer and director Yohei Shimbori was setting up a match. The clip included the girls jiggling their butts and boobs to mimic the soft body physics in Dead or Alive 6.
Shortly after this Shimbori showcased the free-cam mode in the game, zooming in on the girls’ butts while they were wearing swimsuits, as well as showcasing Nyotengu in a rather compromising position.
However, the act of flirty femininity featured throughout the stream along with the free-cam shenanigans was enough to make Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar surly.
The EVO head honcho thoroughly condemned the segment and recoiled at the act while apologizing to Social Justice Warriors after he had the stream temporarily shut down. In a now deleted tweet, he claimed that the promotional segment to introduce Mai Shiranui and showcase the free-cam in Dead or Alive 6did not represent the FGC or EVO,
All of this clearly overshadowed the fact that the stream segment was supposed to announce Mai Shiranui in Dead or Alive 6, which eventually found its way into the news sphere when Famitsu tweeted it out after Cuellar undermined Team Ninja’s attempt to make the announcement.
One of the things that no one seems to be bringing up about this whole fiasco, though, is that Cuellar essentially sex-shamed the models for showing off their bodies and being coquettish.
I suppose Cuellar adheres to the new-wave of feminism where men get to condemn women for exerting their sexuality in ways that they don’t approve of.
Dead or Alive 6 probably didn’t need anymore controversy surrounding its release than it already has, but in some ways it appears Yohei Shimbori – even though he flip flops like a fresh fish out of water – was partially right when he said that sexual imagery in games is less acceptable today than it was in the yesteryears of gaming due to the people that control the industry.

This is a controversial subject so be sure to discuss this issue civilly throughout the thread. This specific topic seems to cause a lot of reactions.

Personally, I don't understand why this would be surprising nor do I understand why the stream was cut-off at Evo Japan. The Game, to be honest, the game SERIES that's being displayed is literally ALL about sexy women. Did you think that just wasn't going to happen during the stream? There's no way this guy could be that clueless, there's clearly another reason for this in the background. For all I know this was intentional.

I mean you can discuss other aspects of this but the actual action taken and the reason given just doesn't make sense in general imo.

Women are not allowed to have fun with their bodies either, apparently. Fuckin' hell Joey. You overly sensitive child.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
The same EVO organization that, in the US, held a Street Fighter V tournament on ESPN and wouldn't allow the contestants to pick Rainbow Mika? Those prudes?

Seriously though, what did they expect from a Dead or Alive 6 live-stream?

See this sensationalist news.

What better way to get attention in such a dumb way.

Shame the way to get attention.

Ha I got a kick out of this. With all the politically correct garbage that goes on now this had to be quite funny.

I mentioned this in related threads, but the Twitch & YouTube stream abruptly ended about 12 minutes early. What they cut was mostly a guy reading from a clipboard, while showing screens of Mouse computer products. The sexy bits all made the Twitch & YouTube videos.

The two gravure models, in their cleavage-revealing tops and booty shorts, were all over the DoA team's Twitter, and it's hard to imagine the EVO people didn't have some idea of the stream's content. If the EVO organization are now this prudish over a slightly pervy stream, broadcasting from 10-11pm PST & 1-2am EST, then they shouldn't have allowed it in the first place.

::::edit::::
For those asking, the whole stream is still available on Twitch. The segment in question starts around the 2:25:00 mark.

I read his tweet earlier, having no knowledge of what had happened. It read like someone had just pulled a Noel Brown and battered their opponent irl. I was not ready for it to be infinitely worse than assault. I was not ready for it to be...... Parts of boobs!

At the time I read it there were 111 comments, all of which, calling him on his shite.

I could almost assure you it was Twitch and YouTube and not Evo. Twitch bans accounts for way less than that for being "too sexy".

EVO wouldn't have felt the need to issue an apology about the broadcast's content, if their hands were tied by the streaming services. Also, to my original point, EVO must have had some idea of the stream's content, which they shouldn't have allowed in the first place, even if the concerns originated from the potential squeamishness of their service providers. As it stands, I fault EVO, until evidence proves, otherwise.

I do find it funny they didn't see this coming when you have Yuka Kuramochi and Saki Yoshida on stream and in Japan. Both are FG fans, well Yuka is for sure, and are pretty well known in the community for their pin-up/gravure work.

Both are really nice people when they're off the clock.

I guess I'll be the lone dissenter: they seem like cool ladies, but that behavior was a bit much for the particular context.

For me it's not about male gaze or anything. It's about what you'd expect to see when tuning into an EVO stream.

(I realize Japanese standards for this are almost certainly different; but the EVO organizers are Western.)

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy

Is that the same girl? Because that's just rather sad.

Ontopic:
This is literally about Dead and Feckin Alive. A game that has a reputation on bikini bodies, they even made their seperate series out of it.

Calling that sex-shaming is like announcing a racing game and then withdrawing it because playing it is not good for Mother Nature. Give. Me. A. Break.
