Apex Legends has been out for about a month now. How do you feel about it?

Apex Legends really made a big impression when it launched, but I'm curious how everyone feels about it now that the honeymoon period is over.
Aside from general 'more content', what are you hoping to see in the first major update?
For those that enjoy the genre, are you still playing or have you gone back to your original favorite?
Captain Kuro was still meh IMO. It starts to get good with Arlong and gets really great with the start into the grand line. Just endure it for the meantime. I almost missed a great Anime called Hitman reborn because the first 25 psodes were probably the worst Anime I have ever seen but after that it got really good.

Last Jojo chapter was great but I have to say, after years of memes and people online talking about King Crimson..... his ability doesn't seem that confusing or hard to understand.
Giornos Gold Experience is way more confusing

They explained it much better in the anime and the fact that you see the characters moving makes it clearer. There were also some really bad translations back when the chapters released which is what @Whataburger is referring to

Eh, King Crimson erases time, while Epitaph predicts his death (or the future for about 5-10 seconds simplified).

Stark comparison of what will air that season compared to all the death and edge of this season.
"I almost work myself to death everyday but come home to a grandma that takes care of me the anime." Based Doga Kobo.

They are also doing adapting this manga sometime in 2019.

The new JoJo ending is freaking cool and very unique (as All JoJo endings are). I wasn't expecting that famous song to pop up in the middle.

I love the idea of giving stands this almost "mythological figures" vibe. They look like they are part of some fresco or something. I wish Araki cared enough about worldbuilding to explore whether the existence of stands would become known among normal people. Like ancient people making statues out of stands, and urban legends forming around bizarre occurrences.

I didn't expect something this new. But then again look at 4s ED. Finally I can finish a JoJo ED again without it being super gay though.

Synopsis
When the level of Labor accidents begin to escalate around Tokyo Bay, police detectives Kusumi and Hata are assigned to investigate. What they discover leads to a series of government cover-ups, conspiracy concerning a new biological weapon entitled WXIII-Wasted Thirteen and a tragic, personal connection to Hata. The only hope to stop this threat is to cooperate with the military and lead WXIII into a showdown with the Labors of Special Vehicle Division 2.

Just finished watching the third movie from this franchise and have to say it's actually a good movie for what it's (in a way, have some similar feel from the 1st movie I have watch). Now, I think those who are a fans of this franchise will know this already but I think it's better to post it for those who never watch any of the Patlabor show/OVA/Movie. This isn't a patlabor movie as all the characters you love from the series have a very limited time in the movie (and I mean very limited time). Hell, the SV2 group won't be shown till 3/4 of the way of the movie and even then, they're either background characters or have a very limited screen time. Even the Ingram from the SV2 are only there for the major climax battle and even that isn't very long (just few minutes). Only Gotou have the longest time in the movie and that's only around 5-7 minutes. Not saying this make the movie bad. In the contrary, the movie itself is actually pretty good. A well written and paced story, beautiful animation and soundtrack which fit well for the visual. It might not be as good as the 1st movie but it stand well for it's own.

The story takes place around Tokyo Bay where a huge sea creature terrorize the water and causing damage of labors and killing people around the area. You follow detectives Kusumi and his junior partner, Hata, trying to found out what is causing this incident and (when found out) where this sea creature come from. Eventually, they manage to trace this to the character Misaki, a scientist and Hata's love interest which he met her near the beginning of the movie. Her backstory leads to some great revelations which adds layers to the plot and help push it to the climatic tragic ending. Like in Patlabor series, themes of inter bureaucratic political strife and tampering with natural life are at play in this movie but very subtle. Like the 1st movie, pacing is slow but it reveals the necessary detail when it need to push the story and leave very little loose plot threads hanging in the movie.

Most of the character development from this movie are coming down to the two major character, Kusumi and Hata. Kusumi is the old veteran cop who have experience knowledge and detective instincts which work well with Hata's observational skills and quick thinking. Also, Hata manage to draws out more of Misaki's motivations and thoughts. What she did was wrong and selfish but once you understand her reason of why she did it, you start to understand her reason (even if it's wrong in so many way). This eventually reach the tragic point at the end when all of her work is destroy while she have to watch her own creation destruction. Her reason and purpose to go on crease to exist after that which make the scene much sadder and even more for Hata.

Animation for the most part is consistently pleasant throughout the film and the artstyle is realistic. As this isn't direct by Oshii, it don't have the touch you see in his movie and you start to notice this in the movie like slow panning shots, symbolism, etc. Still, it's still good to watch. You can say the same with the music soundtrack in the movie. Kenji compose this film's soundtrack as with the other movie and even though it work well, you feel like they is a lack of punch.

Overall, this movie is actually good but don't have the touch like the other movie from Patlabor. You can blame a bit as this isn't direct by Oshii or a very limited characters present from the Patlabor franchise which we love. But by itself, the movie done well with a well written story, beautiful animation and soundtrack. Would recommend it and might be a good movie if you never saw any of the Patlabor series and just want a movie with a serious tone drama and which consist of monster attacking Japan.

Great writeup, I really should get into the Patlabor movies. I remember buying a dvd of this one back in the mid-2000s but never watched it (lol).

The Patlabor movie (and the Early Days) are more in the serious tone over the TV series which is more of the comedic based on people impression. I need to go watch the 2nd movie to finish this timeline so I can check the TV series.

As for this movie, go watch it. As I say in my impression, the slow pacing to build up the story and limited action scene might not be for everyone and would recommend to adjust your expectations or have a lot of downtime with nothing to see when going to watch this movie. After finishing this movie, I wonder if something happened when making this movie where it wasn't attempt to be a Patlabor movie but a new series or franchise but for some reason this movie have to have Patlabor stuff. Would be interested to gather the behind the scenes and for this movie. Either way, if you like some good characters development with a story pacing which development quite well but in slow pace, I would look into it. Just remember this isn't a Patlabor movie with action.

Yeah, I heard about the difference in tone; I don't mind it honestly. I should rewatch the series as well, it was a lot of fun when I watched it as a kid.

I think I still have the dvd somewhere. A couple of months ago I found a copy of Soul Calibur 3 from the same era (2005/2006).

Well, if you have the chance, go watch it. Still, a good movie minus Patlabor stuff.

Having a hard time to try to go back watching Phantom Memory Kurau. It's kinda an on and off watch right now and I am just on middle of Ep 09 from the show. Don't know if I hate the show but it isn't catching me as much as I hope for. Storyline is interesting but not clicking me a bit. Still want to get it done but have a feeling that might be those show I will watch 1-2 episode and stop and come back in few weeks to get though another 1-2 episodes.

Oof, that PV for OPM season 2 is looking rough. Most of the still shots look decent but the fight animation is straight cheeks. So basically standard J.C. Staff.

Been on a major retro anime kick over the last few weeks. Just finished re-watching all of Megazone 23. It's an interesting set of OVAs with some decent art (especially the second one). Now I'm bouncing between Martian Successor Nadesico and You're Under Arrest. Fun rides both of those. Once I get through them, I'm kinda tempted to re-watch Airbats for the first time in eons.

Man...those You're Under Arrest series are great watch but it will kill you if you try to watch it back to back (all three TV series, movie, and the OVA). Pace it with other show you're watching and you're okay.

I am also going through my anime backlogged right now going through the entire Patlabor series while watching Phantom Memory Kurau, Wagnaria!!, and The Gokusen once I need to stop watching one of the those show.

It seems the cute girls doing cute things genre is expanding into areas that are kinda out there. I'm not sure how you can make a series out of this premise but consider me intrigued.

Also I was wondering why there's no anime about bodybuilding (and chess), and this kind of fits the bill.

Isn't they one for the Manga side for the bodybuilding? Don't know if it's character do exercise to get the muscle or just someone who look like that and become a typical slice of life show. Can't say about Chess.

Manga is comfy.

Jojo intro is good, though it ranks in the lower tier of Jojo intros.

The outro is the real standout for me, I'm almost not salty we got no Gangsta's Paradise.

Synopsis
Unlike most shows the three episodes are not only totally unrelated to each other but really don't follow a plot as such and are more a light hearted jibe at both the Patlabor series (TV and films) and other "mecha" Anime. Episode 1 is a brief introduction to the weaponry carried by the Ingram and how it was designed and why it is the way it is. Episode 2 looks at the design and maintenance of the Ingram 98 AV in SVU2 and takes a swipe at the marketing forces behind them (as in merchandising for the series). Episode 3 is the only one to attempt to expand on a very minor point raised in the original TV show and just how SVU2 is actually funded.

As this don't follow any of the Patlabor timeline and basically a spin off, you won't miss much from this three short episodes and it's more for the fans who want more Patlabor goodies. Still, it's a fun watch. The story for each episodes are funny to hear if you can keep up the quick dialogue. They will be time, I need to stop and go back to certain scene to understand what each main characters of each short are talking about.

The big noticeable thing you notice when watching is the animation design. It have this chibli feel look. All the characters have this cardboard puppets style look which is cute to watch. A very interesting style to try on for this series and kinda want a proper OVA in this style if they ever produce a new show. Also, they're many anime reference which you notice as you're watching which is fun to catch.

Overall, a fun short. Would a watch if you like series but not really missing much if you don't want to watch it.

In honor of it's 10th anniversary I re-watched the comedy anime Maria Holic, a parody of the yuri and shojo genres.

Like any good parody though you don't have to have intimate familiarity with the source material to find it funny, it has plenty of funny humor on it's own.

The series follows Miyamae Kanako, a lesbian who enrolls in a Catholic all girls private school hoping for romance and is as pervy as any male anime character, on her first day she meets Mariya, who she thinks is a beautiful blond girl, only to quickly discover that he's a boy in disguise (for reasons that are later explained) and in order to ensure she keeps his secret he, along with his deadpan sarastic maid Matsurika, make Kanako's life a living hell in hilarious ways.

I also finally watched the 2011 second season for the first time and it's in some ways even funnier, only problem with Maria Holic as a whole is it hints at a wider story that is never fleshed out, yes it's a parody but it still manages to hint at some intriguing things.

Sadly the anime just kinda ends with a lot hanging, I don't know if that was in hopes of a third season that never came or if this is just a clear case of "read the manga for more"

The manga wraps up Mariya's story, but not so much Kanako.

Third time I am watching Nadesico. I dont know what they did to make it so addicting. Series self-cancells itself.

Also prior to the High Score Girl OVA, I watched Arcade Gamer Fubuki. Masterpiece. Surprised it even got an English dub featuring Veronica Taylor and Liza Ortiz. Today anime showing underage girls in panties and fanservice poses would be shunned by voice actors.

I've been reading Battle Angel Alita.
The first part was pretty fun though I wasn't too sold at first. Alita came across as an annoying mary sue, but towards the second half things improve and the character grew on me. Fun story with some interesting themes and an enjoyable cast of character.

Now I've moved on to Last Order. So far I'm liking it, it's definitely different and it was a bit disappointing to see it replace most of the side cast. But the new story and expanded scope are cool and I'm digging the new art style.

Made in Abyss getting a new movie coming January 2020. Hope it comes to the West so I can cry in public.

Is it going to continue with the story or is it some side thing?

They had a Fathom Events promo for its first movie before Jordan Peele's Us last night. Heard a guy a few rows in front of me go, "oh cool, it's like Pokemon." Yes, sir, totally like Pokemon, in fact bring your kids if you have any, I'm sure they'll have a WONDERFUL time.

(yes, I'm horrible)

Don't know why but I might be watching this show when it release here in North America. The English dub sound fine from the trailer.

It's the next chapter, so level 5 with white whistle who made bunny girl and the other mutants. Shit's gonna get even darker than what was on the tv show.
