- Nintendo has a rather convincing lead at the moment
- Part of it has to do with the Xbox One and PS4 slowing down

Yep, Nintendo's attach rates are very high as well. They make consistent good quality titles that everyone can enjoy.Nintendo once again showing that it's the games that matter. Good show.
Clearly not, the Wii U had the games too but we all know how that panned out.Nintendo once again showing that it's the games that matter. Good show.
Nintendo doesn't really need to focus on the other two. Nintendo just need's to do their own thing, and the sales will come.It definitely feels like Nintendo have all the momentum right now while Sony and Microsoft spin their wheels preparing for next gen.
It's a long way off, but I'm curious as to how Nintendo will handle things in 2021 onwards.
I can't imagine the 'New Switchi Colour' will be enough to keep up with Xbox Two and PS5, so will they try and drag it out a few years to the midway point they had their do over system this gen find success in, and keep a standard system lifespan, risking a sales drop off and profit slump? Or instead risk bringing out their own next gen system earlier, which would compete more directly but could piss Switch owners off if it feels 'too soon'?
I've no idea, and I'm not bring out the Nintendoomed clock, just wonder how next gen is going to go down for the big N, since the WiiU being a total wankfest disrupted their release pattern so badly.
Regardless, glad the Switch is doing great. Love mine!
Yea, they really need to do something about their online. Now that Nintendo is rolling out some classics (Contra collection, Secret of Mana Collection, etc..) to go with their newer stuff, I’m pretty happy with the Switch. Well, the online still needs work..

Yea I understand the frustration about graphics and Nintendo, but Nintendo is not going for the 'graphics' race anymore. They just focus on gameplay and the rest falls into place. They will release a Switch Pro eventually, maybe next year? I haven't been following the news. They don't chase that dream anymore(high specs), and MS and Sony will just fight for the spec war stuff. If people really care about graphics, they should just build a high end PC, where you'll get all the bells and whistles. Like, it would be nice for Nintendo to make a powerful system, but I don't get my hopes up. Nintendo just makes fun games that I enjoy imo. And, I'm not defending the graphics in the picture of the Pokemon game, that's inexcusable. There are far better looking titles on the Switch than that.I made a comommentary about this on another forum.
It's going to get so bad next-gen... This...
is going to be against games that will be 60 FPS and 4K and look like this as an average... It's like they're two decades apart. There's only so far that good games can get people until they start to feel like they're being taken for a ride when the output is bordering on GameCube reminiscent graphics.
There's a point where Nintendo's "own thing" is just ridiculous, and taking advantage of people and we've just about reached that point.
But they keep falling further and further behind, when the next generation systems release there's going to basically be three generations of compute separating them.Yea I understand the frustration about graphics and Nintendo, but Nintendo is not going for the 'graphics' race anymore. Yea. I guess we'll see what Nintendo does in the near future. But, I'm not holding my breath. But they keep falling further and further behind, when the next generation systems release there's going to basically be three generations of compute separating them.
Nintendo should just go third party, they're delivering games in the most incompetent fashion possible just to sell people a gimmicky piece of hardware. It was fine when it was GC/Wii graphics against the 360/PS3, it was fine when it was the Wii U graphics against early 8th gen games but the Switch is basically producing Wii U level graphics again and we're at the end of the 8th gen where things have radically progressed and about to drop into the 9th generation.
They're hitting the boundaries of unacceptability. Release a handheld and put your games on it, release them on PC, Xbox and PlayStation for the home market in 4K or something. They charge $300 for this shit in 2019, it's absurd.
Image link is broken. It's going to get so bad next-gen...
Fixed.Image link is broken.
With this success and momentum, that's not going to happen. They see their IPs strength and worth, plus their portable stronghold. No reason to leave all that on the table. Just watch how many more they'll sell when they announce and release the mini. But they keep falling further and further behind, when the next generation systems release there's going to basically be three generations of compute separating them.

Which is fine as a handheld, but let that be what it is. Stop masquerading in the console market as if you still have a place in it, 720p TV's haven't been the standard for 12 years and we're still met with a system which is built around that standard. With this success and momentum, that's not going to happen. And the Switch didn't? The gap from Breath of the Wild to Super Mario Odyssey was 7 months and the games in the interim which were fueling its momentum were Wii U ports... I have to say I am very disappointed in the Nintendo community, it was never about the games.No. It didn't. Wii U had consistent droughts.
It didn't have Breath of the Wild at launch and didn't have Mario Odyssey a few months later.Clearly not, the Wii U had the games too but we all know how that panned out.
A few months later? 7 months later is considered a drought everywhere else. Also you're completely shirking my point. It didn't have Breath of the Wild at launch and didn't have Mario Odyssey a few months later.
WiiU was awful at launch and while it had great games it had very little system sellers and it certainly didn't have them in time.
The games which kept the Switch's momentum up were Wii U ports, it's poetic irony. And the Switch didn't? PS4 owners?Do they track digital? because honestly who is still buying physical unless you buy nintendo.

That's better but it's still in PS360U territory.Using Pokemon Sword/Shield as a comparison is not really fair. I liked the Xenoblade 2 environments. Personally, at a certain point the increased visual fidelity is lost to me. I've played a few games in 4k and once the action starts I stop noticing it.
Are you expecting PS4/XBO graphics from a tablet? That's better but it's still in PS360U territory.
Man, I always wished we would get to see a Zelda again with really top end graphics technology, like in the GC days.....Perhaps some studios would want to make some games in the vein of Eternal Darkness and RE4 styled graphics for a Nintendo system again...…...I made a commentary about this on another forum.

No, I'm expecting that if you're going to enter the console space make it competent enough to do so. The system is towing the graphical lines between a Wii U and the original Wii depending on games. Are you expecting PS4/XBO graphics from a tablet?

This is why I honestly think they should go third party but not entirely, release a portable only platform akin to the Switch and for the home console market bring the games to Xbox and PlayStation.Man, I always wished we would get to see a Zelda again with really top end graphics technology, like in the GC days.....Perhaps some studios would want to make some games in the vein of Eternal Darkness and RE4 styled graphics for a Nintendo system again...…...
Why not have the ability to do both?oh great a Nintendo thread let's all talk about graphics over and over and over and over and over and over..
i would rather play BOTW on Switch than play it 4k on a Xbox and be tethered to the living room and a huge ass controler
How funny it is to hear all this coming from someone with a Dreamcast game as their username. No thanks I'll keep my bad graphics if it means they don't end up like Sega. This is why I honestly think they should go third party but not entirely, release a portable only platform akin to the Switch and for the home console market bring the games to Xbox and PlayStation.
This would serve the games best on all fronts, they'd lose the home console hardware sales but they would gain significant software sales. Can you imagine Breath of the Wild at 4K on a console? I mean look at the CEMU stuff, the work being done there. They're the only one which should genuinely leave the home console market but refuse to and as a result the experience in that market suffers.
They don't have to end up like Sega, who else is captilizing and succeeding in the handheld market? How funny it is to hear all this coming from someone with a Dreamcast game as their username. No thanks I'll keep my bad graphics if it means they don't end up like Sega.
Well, I don't want them to go third party, but I wish Nintendo fans would ask a bit more of Nintendo on the hardware front...….I mean, I can appreciate that they don't go toe to toe with Sony and MS, but I'd wish their next console would be an 8TF Navi at least, like the RX 5700...As Cerny said, 8TF would manage 4k and with most of Nintendo's stylized games, they would be able to render all their Mario games, Zelda's at 1440p-4k 60fps with some nice AA and AF...…..Hey, I'd buy such hardware in a heartbeat as a second console.....This is why I honestly think they should go third party but not entirely, release a portable only platform akin to the Switch and for the home console market bring the games to Xbox and PlayStation.

If I could play Breath of the Wild on my Switch on the go or in bed etc, and then come home and continue it on my Xbox or PlayStation I would be a much happier person, anyone would be.
This is why I said it's never been about the games to you Nintendo zealots, you act like it is but it's never been that. You become illogically attached to their hardware when the reality is their games would be much better served elsewhere in the home market.
People do care, almost everyone cares if they're being honest. Only someone lying to themselves would claim to be fine when they could be given a substantially better experience in the same game elsewhere. They'll still buy whatever jank hardware Nintendo sells them though because that's how you can play their games.Lol yeah, not gonna happen.
People buying nintendo hardware clearly dont care and neither does nintendo. All that matters is money and install base. People should stop trying to push this whole model on others, just because microsoft is headed in that direction.
. A system getting like >5% of AAA/AA game releases from 3rd parties is a system which does not need to exist
Flat out the Switch is the single worst platform to own standalone, you've got Nintendo games and that's just about it. Nintendo has diversity of their own but the cost is too high, they've relegated themselves to side-system status because you miss too much from everyone else for it to be a lone viability.
What ever happened to the diversity of the game market, where each brand had a stable of unique IPs to help them stand out in the crowd?
Oh. This obsession with third-party "AAA" is what happened.
You're being hyperbolic or your mind's playing tricks on you when it comes to Wii games. Switch is more powerful than a Wii U. It's a Wii U Pro at worst. The system is towing the graphical lines between a Wii U and the original Wii depending on games.
The Switch while cool in concept was also a mistake, Nintendo can never release a traditional home console again which means they will perpetually be stuck generations behind. A system getting like >5% of AAA/AA game releases from 3rd parties is a system which does not need to exist, indies which are basically available everywhere else and Nintendo's games are the only driving force of their platform.
