Two weeks ago my friend brought a plug in twin arcade stick with arcade games in it. We wanted to play a co-op game and we found a game called Cadillac and Dinosaurs. I was surprised by the weird name and I also was surprised that it was made by CAPCOM and I never heard about it before. The game is a beat em up where the protagnists drive a classic Cadillac at the begining of the stage and then fight enemies including dinosaurs. This 1993 game is a typical CAPCOM beat em up released in that era. It was never ported or rereleasd on any console.

After that I did a little research and found out that the game is based on a cartoon show that is based on a comic called Xenozoic Tales.

I have few questions:
- Have you heard about this game or cartoon before?
- Do we have other examples of games with brand/company name in the title?

Here is episode 1 of the cartoon:

I've played the game, it's a great beat'em up. Not as good as The Punisher and Alien VS Predator though, they're the kings of beat'em ups!

Amazing game, first played it on an arcade machine on a ship travelling. Every other time was on mame, i don't believe Capcom ever released this on a console.

Definitely played it (I'm 40) and I use to love it. Capcom and Konami back in the days were top tier.

It's widely considered the best arcade beat'em up ever. It's an amazing game. 90's beat'em ups by capcom are all great. They were the kings of the genre.

Great game. Played it a lot in the arcades back in the day. That and final fight.
They took a big chunk of the money I earned, on my newspaper rout.. :)

It was very popular in Brazil back in the day. Maybe the best Capcom beat'em up here.

Fun trivia: we say quotes wrong on purpose with this game, like when you get the meat, here we say "quer queijo". Sounds kinda the same, so it's funny

I loved the TV show. Didn't know there was a game :D

Not as good as Alien VS Predator though, they're the kings of beat'em ups!

I played that recently and it was ok. Not even close to being as good as either Golden Axe or Dragon's Crown.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
It's a classic, how could you not have heard of it

Took me and a cousin like 20 credits to finally clear. So much spent.

Glad you got to play it at least. Check out their other stuff from that era.

Battle Circuit is the pinnacle, Armored Warriors, The Punisher and tons of other stuff are good fun too though.

Also this thing's setting needs to become a genre. Dinocalypse?

Play the dungeon and dragons beat-em-ups. Shadows over Mystara and Tower of Doom.....both great as well, both by Capcom.

Also while you are at it play the X-men, Turtles, and Avengers games are all worth a play through (and all have cartoon/comic origins)

I remember I was so stoked when I saw Cadillacs and Dinosaurs for the Sega CD. I was so disappointed. No Capcom logo on the box should have clued me in but I was young and naive.

The game is fairly average. Even if you have a fondness for the genre there are DOZENS of titles that did the same formula better.

Isn't it awesome?! I LOVED the cartoon growing up and saw that the cabinet existed, but I never saw it ANYWHERE. That was until I went to visit my family in Spain. I played it in a bar in Barcelona, haha. That was the ONLY time I EVER saw it.

Now that I think about it, I had weird situations like that with a few arcade cabinets that just happened to be beat-em-ups and based on a series.

Another was Captain Bucky O Hare, and I played it at a Fuddrucker's when I was younger, never saw it ever again. Same went with Battletoads, played it at a Cici's when I was in my teens, and then never saw it again.

Pretty strange, lmao.

One of best arcade games ever made imo.

In my country this was played like by almost everybody. One of the most popular arcades, alongside Mortal Kombat, Metal Slug X and King of Fighters.

Not sure I can answer your question though.

The most interesting thing about this game was being able to pick up guns in a beat-em-up.

Then running out of ammo in two seconds :messenger_loudly_crying:

Danny Dudekisser

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I consider this to be the best beat-em-up of all time. I love it.

2nd place goes to The Punisher.

Anyway, wouldn't concern yourself with cartoon, but the comic it was based on is supposed to be great... but ends on a cliffhanger, guess. I've always meant to check it out.

I played this once, should probably play it again sometime. Not necessarily my favorite of theirs (that'd be Battle Circuit), but it's a pretty fun game. Probably helps the enjoyment factor if you know the source material though.

Played it all the time when I was young. Used to go with my Dad when he worked in the next town, and we'd sit at the arcade across the way.

Yeah, it was one of the most popular Capcom beat'em ups, here in Spain it was everywhere.

There was also a more obscure on-rails Sega CD title, but it was really short (under one hour).

... Name a few?
Konami's Vendetta.
King of Dragons.
Alien Vs Predator, The Punisher and basically the entire other line-up of Capcom brawlers that played exactly like this one (except better).

Really, C&D is more or less at the bottom tier of the genre.

Cadillacs & Dinosaurs is better than Vendetta and King of Dragons but that is subjective at best.

If we are talking god tier then it’s hard to beat arcade Final Fight. Sure it might look a lot more archaic than later titles but the tight control and enemy AI more than make up for it.

Yeah, I guess fame is short lived. This is a pretty popular 90s arcade beat'em-up. Far from one of the best in the genre but still pretty solid.

First played the arcade game, then I watched the show on TV and few years ago I read the short comic that was never finished.
It is one of the easy beatemups too if you run, jump and kick with hannah or mustafa.

That's the only part we can agree on.
Vendetta plays way better than C&D, with a lot more nuance and more interesting balance. It's a bit rougher on the art side (then again, it has more personality and it's way less formulaic).

That’s a fair enough assessment, not everyone likes the same things. Vendetta probably has more going for it than later Konami beat ‘em up’s but I still prefer Capcom’s approach to the genre.

“The subjection is strong in this one”

Because it was everywhere.

I never seen AVP arcade but C&D was in every arcade in Poland, next to Final Fight and Punisher.

Best beat'em up together with Punisher.
Yeah, they were amazing.

I loved those type of arcades back then.

PLayed this in the arcade a lot as a kid. Everyone picked Mustafa cos of his running kicks. They just spammed that, Getting through the butcher without losing a life was a true achievement.

Obviously! Cadillacs and Dinossaurs is a top tier arcade beat em up and very famous among brawler enthusiasts. It is very well know. When I was a kid I dreamed of playing it in my home.

A tip for experience these arcade beat em ups at the fullest: try to limit your continues. Not having to pay atention to enemies patterns can make them feel like a musou and its gameplay becomes trivial and repetitive.

I remember playing this with my dad at an arcade. Probably the only time my dad played a video game with me. I finished this at an arcade near my house once i turned 16, told him and he just brushed it off like he didn't remember oh well. Good times.....

We'll have to agree to disagree then. If you'd told me guardians or battle circuit, then yeah those games have a lot more moves and combo options, but vendetta?

this was great fun, but i never saw the game when i was a kid. played plenty of TMNT and The Simpsons but none of this until emulators. i remember the TV show. felt like there were a lot of TMNT knockoffs around during the time...

since the i've checked out the cartoon and looked at the comic. the comic is pretty sweet, classic sci fi fantasy. wouldn't mind a reboot tbh.
