I haven't been reading gaming websites as those are a waste of my time with articles that emphasize more about politics than gameplay. So Game Infromer demise means nothing to me. I hope the same will happen to websites pretending to be about games when its really about them pushing agendas.
Youtube creators already doing much better review while cutting out the political correctness bullshit and that is all that matter.

I stuck with Game Informer for as long as I could, though I stopped being a regular reader in 2015, would then only grab an issue if the cover story interested me, most recently the Outer Worlds issue earlier this year.
But then my Gamestop membership ran out, I decided Gamestop isn't really something I want to give my business to anymore and that was that.
It sucks to think of gaming magazines going extinct, but come on, it's a literally archaic medium by this point.

GME would’ve just shut down the entire Game Informer operation yesterday if it was unionized, as it’s not critical to sales or keeping the chain afloat. Fuck, GI is fortunate that GME didn’t shut the magazine down years ago.
Sure, a union might have prevented a few staffers from getting the axe, but it would’ve invited a bulldozer into the building to tear that shit down because GameStop can’t afford to run an additional business with no future when its investors have already decided that the core business is a business with no future.

With what appears to be the industry consolidating recently, and all the up to the minute news on forums aggregated from twitter and youtube, I just have no interest in reading short narrative briefs in a magazine that arrived yesterday regarding games I already had the same info on back in May.
They may have more success in doing deeper dives into games and the industry with items not readily available to everyone and that may take more than one or two pages to gloss over. There are so many quality games with histories that I would enjoy reading about their creation and transformations over the year, sort of like some of the youtube documentaries but in a written form.
I hope they all can obtain work moving forward, and maybe after the sting settles, some of them may find it is a plus that this happened and they moved on to better opportunities.

Influencers are getting review and preview copies and their passion and knowledge is much more comprehensive than most of the writers they have on their site. The days of gatekeeping by access are over.

I wish, but they have been like this for the past few years.
this is a result of the industry changing, not consumers refusing to buy due to political hamfisting.
Anyone working at Game Informer should understand that their career there is ticking down to a close very soon and frankly, you should have seen this coming. Gamestop is going to fold and there is very little that can save it and both magazines and retail chains are dying out.

They might have one ace in the sleeve. I've been hearing rumblings that they're trying to implement a new game rental subscription system(similar to the used game rental they tried except for new games with different tiers to get a used one free per month, etc). The main draw for it's marketing is it's game pass except for multiple platforms.
It has potential but there's some hurdles in the way of implementing it.
