LTTP : Uncharted 4 what the hell happened (SINGLE PLAYER)

The game really was boring as shit. Felt like an absolute chore that I couldn’t wait to finish and move on to other things.

And this is coming from someone who usually enjoys what most consider boring...such as the modern day Assassin’s Creed content of the franchise’s early iterations. I loved that shit.

I genuinely believe that if you removed the “Naughty Dog” and “Only on Play Station” tags, this would drop down to a 79 Metacritic.

I get what you mean but it's the finale of the Uncharted series. It couldn't be a standalone game even if it wanted to.

So much revolves around it being Drake's final outing. All the story is built on the back of players having played - and maybe enjoyed - the series up until that point.

I thought I deleted that proof part but it's true

You didnt like the game and that's fine but the game is great

I probably wouldn't like Breath of The Wild but I understand that it's a great game

I did like the game its a 5/10 - bang on average =- i like to eat macdonalds does not mean i dont prefer fine dining.
This game has not evolved as a game - only the graphics engine - im not sure if you don't like games that reward the players intelligence - or those that insult them.If you think this game is great what do you call HL2/MGS5/Deus Ex???? This shit is basic as gameplay - if u dont like GAMEPLAY then fine and you like GRPXS they AMZXIG WOOOOO, then good on you.
I play rimworld, football manager and dota games with zero fucking graphics but at least 500 hours min im playing.
Show me the mofo that has played UC4 for more time than F2P Dota - so how can it be GOTY?

The gameplay is a joke, really. I'm playing The Last of Us now and I'm having much more fun! A much better game!

I still have to play lost legacy, i'm really burned of the uncharted formula...
Uncharted 4 burned me but Lost Legacy kind of save the series.
I’m clearly not buying the next Uncharted day 1, but I might not completely ignore it.

I personally enjoyed Uncharted but I definitely agree Last of Us is much better game, I had more fun playing Last of Us in survival/Grounded difficulty more than Uncharted in Crushing.

Games like Half Life 2, Deux Ex, MG5 were great too. Like I said it's fine that you didn't enjoy it but the general consensus is that Uncharted 4 is a great game. The melee combat is the best in a shooter and the rope really added to combat encounters, the story was good and so were the set pieces

I agree that it would be impossible to make It a multi-platform standalone game. My post is partly a response to the “you guys are wrong, look at metacritic, its over 9000!!” replies.

Just look at the Mass Effect series. No one batted an eye to call out its decline in quality starting with the Mass Effect 3 ending and culminating with the entire Andromeda entry.

I wouldn't call it a 5/10 but I didn't think it was as good as 2 or 3.

but how can it be on a next gen box from ps3 and be worse ? I dont not like it 5/10 for me is average - perfectly fine if u a fan of the series.
How can anyone recommend it over UC2 a lasty gen game from a 1st party studio that is meant to be pushing the bar.
Fuck i can make the next uncharted if its meant to be like 4

why cant we have UC4 with HL2 phyiscs and MGS5 stealth - 8 years after UC2?????

What you think GAF. Another overrated game that has the super polish but is basically a 5/10 game.
I think 8 or 9/10 (I would give it a solid 7) would more fair, but it does start slow and boring... somehow the gaming press loved it.
Clonning U2/U3 formula would have been an overkill for U4 and ppl would be complaning that it's just same shit over and over again aka "You played one, you played them all."

They already reproced the recepy, but they put salt instead of sugar.

how do you rate MGS5 / Horizon / GoW if UC4 is a solid 7?? Give me a fucking break!

Well for one, I personally didn’t like Horizon at all, I enjoyed UC4 much more. In the end it comes down to personal taste, you might not enjoyed UC4 but others did, simple as that.

omg I say in the OP I give UC2 10/10!!! I love it...but as a game UC4 is 5/10 for me, could have been DCL for UC2 and no one would have given a fuck - nothing in it could not have been done on ps3 with less fidelity.

MGS4 to 5 is the leap I am thinking is the minimum acceptable for 8+.

That could be said about most games this gen.

The problem of the pacing me is that it tries to ground the story too much. There is way too much exposition in the first half.
It's like like a slow burn when it should be an action Rollercoaster to fulfill expectations.
I appreciate the more organic setpieces tho, there are several setpieces that are similar to the chopper from 2 but longer an bigger which I apricciate bit the pacing kinda kills it at times.
For me the game should have started like in Scott land and the normalife and prison should ve been short flashbacks.
When the drama hits tho, I think it is the best of the series, like Drake and Helena figuring their relationship out while you play or the ending with Raffe getting comepletly salty at Drake and finishing him off with a one liner. All the second half of the game felt better and more action blockbuster movie than ever to me. Very late 80's movie like.
The combat is better than ever too, I feel they made a disservice to themselves by not showcasing it earlier in full, you don't get to use everything until Scott land which is a couple of hours in already.

There was a ton of sections in the game where you're just walking around, but the shootouts and scripted sequences are the best in any mainline Uncharted.

I loved it, personally.

Shit is fucking boring as hell. Like 80% exploring and listening to cutscenes. Made an LTTP of it a while back.
Nice analysis my fren.

Well, that's a serious problem, games and movies should be able to stand on their own merits, even if they are part of a series.

If the character wasn't Drake I would never have played past the first hour or so, or I would certainly have dropped the controller at the cheesy love scene - seriously, that belongs in a dating sim/girlfriend simulation - given how the game ends there should have been a qte about the creation of young Drakette.

Anyways, I think that this is wishful thinking that some guy like that would stop adventuring because he has a daughter, he would just be absent, sending in a jewel from time to time so that the family remains afloat financially, if they are lucky.

Remember that long lost brother of Nathans he couldnt shut up about in uncharted 1, 2 and 3? No, us niether. However we are shoe horning a game actor who's 'in' in it; so you are getting a brother whether you like it or not.

It was disapointing to a very large degree for a meriad of reasons.

While the game has its moments (following the home life of the Drakes for example) I’ve felt since the first game that the series has suffered from sequelitus, becoming very bloated when what made the story in the first interesting was the tight narrative that followed genre conventions without becoming too self conscious about it.

Accounts of the development suggested they had many ideas about “traversal” that didn’t quite pan out and those levels were too long for their own good even if the gameplay did work but you can’t hate them for being ambitious. They finally figured the gameplay out in Uncharted The Lost Legacy but unfortunately the narrative there is even more dull.

Anyway, you could do much worse than the Uncharted series and the problems it has aren’t even exclusive to games. It was just too big for its own good and led to fallout within the studio. Also as much as I like to say positive things about Amy Hennig she bought into the idea that they have to make up the story as they go along with the set pieces they thought up which explains why 4 is so bloated narratively, 3 kind of goes nowhere, 2 is so disjointed, etc

Yes, the game's pacing is slow until chapter 11.

Chapter 11 is the first 2-4 hours of the game. Picks up after that.. from my experience playing the game.
And then it completely stops in chapter 16. An overly long chapter that could have been a short cutscene.
"But hey, look at this pretentious shit we're shoehorning in a 3rd person shooter! This is art. Gimme an academy award."

I loved the game. Played for like 10 hours straight (I was high on LSD too). My SO was sitting right next to me the whole time, it was entertaining for both of us.

Later I got the remasters compilation but couldn't get myself to play them. It might be a good time to do it while I wait for DS.

I don't understand how OP can love Uncharted 2 but say Uncharted 4 is shit, They basically play exactly the same, 4 is a step up from 2 in pretty much every aspect so to me it almost reads like a troll thread.

Because Uncharted 2 is a better game on the whole. Better levels, better set pieces, less walking around doing nothing and looking at this, and better villains. Uncharted 4 is basically the story of a rich manlet having a tantrum as Drake's deadbeat brother takes advantage of his kindness.

Uncharted 4 has better gameplay and graphics but it really doesnt do them justice. Lost Legacy is a MUCH better game.

Uh, the rest of the game has a lot more action compared to the first 3 hours of the game.

10/10 played 3 times. Awesome story.
I also like the PSVita one. lol
1 is meh (hate the zombie at the end).
2 the actions is very good but it felt off with monkey power at the end.
3 also good, i liked the writing , mainly the drug stuff explaining the hallucinations.

My boy was playing it for the 3rd time just the other day on the main 75”. Each time I walked past I took a double take just to gaze at the splendour of the environments. These environments are a leading character on their own, worth the price admission alone.

Not sure what's going on here but I was a non-believer, a hater, someone who thought how can a generic tomb raider type of game be any good and then I bought it and now it's in my top franchises of all time. It made me appreciate Uncle Noly even more. The only negative thing I can say is the ending was a bit disappointing. Being dragged around mud/car chase scene is one my favorite moments in gaming.

My least favourite PS4 exclusive along with The Order. Presentation was, of course, top notch.

The Scotland section was eexcruciatingly tiresome, I almost dropped the game then, but soldiered on, not realising that there was another 15 hours of dull platforming ahead of me.

The open areas were pointless; people gave these a pass while giving Gears 5 shit, at least there were purposeful things to do in the Gears open areas (upgrading Jack).

Combat was forgettable.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is actually a better game.

i had fun playing this game but I was definitely falling asleep during a lot of the climbing/traversal bits.... combination of it being obvious where to go / no fear of dying / no challenge to get there. if we get another game i hope they can make these sections more dynamic

I tend to look at the open sections of these games as something primarily there for the immersion factor. It doesn't aid gameplay much, but it helps give the game a feeling of adventure and discovery.

Yah we had often been asking for that sense of exploration, etc. The Lost Legacy did that better, although there's the tension in drawing it out that the banter and story beats that holds the experience together becomes less frequent. I think part of the problem with those segments is the dialogue between Nate and Sam was kinda dull and as they themselves observed in retrospect the sliding, grappling hook, etc didn't live up to to the concept. Again Lost Legacy did it better

edit: and in either case far more interesting than collecting Jak upgrades in Gears 5. All the copying they did of Uncharted highlights some of the flaws in Gears

About 4 hours into this game (chapter 8 of 20 odd)
My last Uncharted was 2, which was an amazing game ( 10/10) for me.

Playing this I was super hyped, I was going to get the remastered collection, then though fuck it get the ps4 one.

The start is what you would think but hell the pacing is sooooo odd. The first 5 chapters I played almost with one hand, it could have all been done with a 30 second cut scene, the 'traversal' elements are a joke just look for the clearly labelled hold/jump here sign and follow.
Yes it is gorgeous but all I do is follow a basically pre path down a super linear route. Then suddenly the 20-30mins of movement parts stops and you have to kill 20-30 people dead, then the next boring part. I forget the controls to the shooting part since it was like 30 mins since I shot something.

The characters are so boring, and nothing new, the plot so far is boring as fuck. I personally feel the graphics are good but while playing it hardly matters - the gameplay is soo slow and shit. I am unsure to finish this game, and just move onto TLOU.

The game is fucking boring.
I loved 2 and 3 and 1 was ok.

I didnt even finish 4 and laughed at buying that spinoff dlc game

This game is sony games at its worst.
And everything i hate.
Damn shame
