Is there a price gap of the launch consoles that would cause you to switch platform?

No chance. £50 is nothing when we're talking about something that's going to be played for years. No doubt it would have a huge impact for the more mainstream demographic though.
Mostly mothers, I always hear Gamestop employees trying to sell moms a second hand Xbox one. 'Oh yes, it has a Gamestop warranty for a year'.....

Never will I ever switch to Xbox, unless Microsoft somehow buys Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Guerilla, Sucker Punch, Insomniac and Polyphony.

Edit: Or if somehow, those studios starts making shit games and Microsoft’s studios starts making amazing story driven single player experiences.

Polyphony, with their Gran Turismo Titles, apparently amazing story driven single player experiences. lol.

I think things are going to be different next gen, everyones changing how they operate and I think a lot of the familiarity people have with Xbox and PS now will change next gen. I think the types of games we are going to play, for better or worse, will be different and this will be the last generation of games being designed the traditional way.

Next gen may be the best gen or the worst gen due to this, but it's likely the last traditional console gen before always online stream boxes under a TV with games on demand.

I would be willing to change from Microsoft to Sony if the price difference is large enough to make up for the extra cost to get a good controller (i.e. one where the left analog stick is properly placed) and Rare would indicate that it plans to make online garbage next gen, too.

3DS teached me to not get new consoles at launch anymore, usually wait a bit for either a decent sale\pricedrop or buy preowned which i did with the switch. Sonys console i usually get if there is a interesting enough game released and good enough pricing, and lol at the tvtvtv subscription non exclusive(except shooters) console.

I can't "switch platforms" because I tend to support them all, but if I had to choose between the next gen Xbox or PS, I would go with the one that has the most games I want to play at launch, or in a perfect world where all things are equal, the one that is lowest price, even though I eventually plan on getting them both, probably won't get both at launch, but we will see. If they both have multiple exclusives I'm interested in at launch then I just might, but that is unlikely.

Naaaah.
At the worst I'll wait a price drop, a flash sale or whatever.
The output of Sony first party devs, the ongoing support across all the life of their (home) console is something I can't, better, I don't want to renounce.

Exactly I dont care about games I just care about being a fanboy AMIRITE.
Well done with that great insight retard!
Lmao imagine being this salty about one decision to not buy one piece of hardware. Almost noone in my country plays on xbox so why would I buy one?

nice edit mods, he can call me a retard and I can't call him back a faggot? the fuck D: whatever

It's a hard one that, since both PS5 and Xbox4 are gonna offer backwards compatibility and enhanced performance. You'd probably stick with the same ecosystem if you're an existing customer.

No, I just wouldn't get it until I had the money. Didn't get a One until like 2-3 years after it launched cuz I couldn't afford it. Not about to start over with a new friends list, achievements, etc because its cheaper than the one I want.

No.

PC/Sony/Ninty and you can really play everything. Nothing against Xbox and some of its games - although Halo/Gears are completely uninteresting to me personally, but you can play them elsewhere. I don't get the reasoning behind buying an Xbox. Maybe there are some that I am unaware of, or don't apply to me though.

Also, my days of being an early adopter with consoles ended with the PS2. I bought both the PS1 and PS2 at launch, but these days with ever-expanding backlogs of awesome games just sitting there - both physically and digitally - there is really no reason for me to jump in and pay a premium when waiting a bit will save tons of cash on both hardware and software. And while I wait, it's not like I'll feel deprived of great gaming.

No. The launch titles will. The features will as well

Like the rumor that GTA 6 will be Exclusive to Sony? If that comes true I'm sorry but Xbox is gonna have to wait a few months. I like Halo, but I tire of the multiplayer fairly quickly.

On the other hand, GamePass makes a difference as well. If I can buy a more expensive xbox but get 3-4 solid games at launch without forking over an extra $240 dollars then Xbox wins.

Doesn’t really matter though. Most games will be crossplay next gen anyway. So who cares?

Yeah some of these mods take sides so be careful. Too many times I've seen ppl become caustic and offend someone based off a comment not directed to them and when you respond in kind back thy ban the defender. It's favoritism.

No. It's a one time purchase, so 50-100$ is not a significant difference when you compare things like services, 1st party offerings, potential VR or other accessories, community/what consoles your friends have (talking in general).

Nope - dont really look at the prices much. I just pick the more intriguing console for my needs. If its too much ill just wait. It wont make me switch my want of console

No, though I won't spend over $400 for any console. My backlog is already irresponsibly large, so I'd just wait for a price drop.

Not in any way console warring, but if the Xbox was £1 and the PS5 was £1000, I’d still buy the PS5!

Until the Xbox gets some decent exclusives that aren’t Forza/Gears/Halo then I’m not interested. And if I was, I’d play them on PC anyway!

Both you and Panda1 were warned for your needless aggression. Your post in particular was edited due to the severity of the insult used. "Faggot" has not and will never be a term to use around here. Let's try to improve the discussion around here and not stoop to "he insulted me so I can insult him!" mindsets.

Lately, personal insults are ok if you're an xbox fanboy.

If you see personal insults, please report them. We cannot see everything.

Nope, unless it was a ridiculous price gap of $1000 or something. I only buy consoles for exclusives

No. I anticipate Scarlett will be around $500, but if it's significantly more I'll just wait for the 1st price drop. I wouldn't be willing to pay over $50 for a PS5. I'm not personally a fan of Sony exclusives except for HZD. I hated the cheesy PS4 console and it's stupid controller I had before I traded it on OneX.

Playstation and Xbox exclusives? I don't know what to choose!
Uncharted (shooter) and Gran Turismo (racing) versus Gears (shooter) and Forza (racing).

brb going to the grocery store to complain I can't find catsup.

It would take a lot more than price to make me switch from Sony... simply due to the fact that 90% of my gaming library is on either Steam or PSN

Price doesn’t bother me. I buy Playstation because my game catalog is mostly made up of their exclusives. Nintendo also has great exclusives. Xbox is a bit too online for my tastes.

Seeing how Xbox One fare this generation with its exclusives, I'll stick to Playstation 5 even if it cost $100 more.

If I was still on console, probably not. Unless it was something absurd like $1,000. At the time, I was more into trophy hunting and would not have liked to start over from scratch on a different platform.

Depends on the price and how I'm willing to hold out on buying a nextgen console. I never limit myself into buying just one system. Always buy an Xbox first then my favorite 1st party gaming machine a Playstation.

In a way, game pass has already made the choice for me. If I get one Scarlett game a month I would definitely go with that console first whatever the entry price.

I'd be much more likely to buy in to Nintendo again if their next console was priced $50+ more than Sony's or Microsoft's, does that count? It means they'd likely be competitive on the tech side again. Maybe.

Xbox currently has nothing worth paying less for. Now if the new Xbox has some pretty interesting launch games and they launch at a $100 cheaper price tag than MAYBE people will go. It’s hard because the games has to be there, for now I’m looking more on the PS5, but you never know. I don’t really pick sides so it’s gonna be whoever got a good variety of games at launch/launch window.

I thought about this. I'm now on ps4 (pro), after my Xbox360 last-gen. There are certainly a couple of exclusives I would like to play on Xbox, like the next Fable, next Obsidian game. But.. I'm so invested in the PS ecosystem right now, I don;'t see myself changing it up again.

- I have PSVR and I love it, which is backward compatible with PS5 (and might come with a slew of improvements)
- I have a huge backlog of (digital) games, also because of PS Plus
- I have my trophies, I love the metagame

So no, I won't be switching because of a price-differential. And chances are, I'm gonna play the Xbox exclusives on my pc (which might need an upgrade).

Sticking with Sony next gen, what with most of my purchases digital, but plan to upgrade my Xbox One to an X and ride out that wave with gamepass for the next two years.

With Most upcoming exclusive Microsoft games probably coming to the X I see no need for a next gen Xbox in the foreseeable future for me (at least for my taste) On the other hand I know that I'll have great exclusives and Japanese games on the PS5.

I don't know about outright changing platforms but a price difference of say 100 bucks would probably encourage me to hold off getting a new console until I see what games are available on each console after year one (and what games are coming up).

I am thinking for next gen that subscription services might be a big selling point for me, personally.

I've learned from the current generation that once we get into year 2 or 3 there are already more games than I reasonably have time to play.
So it's really going to come down to the games. Specifically it's going to come down to single player experiences.

I absolutely HATE the idea of having a backlog and there's really no need for it in the current environment since most games hare quite heavily discounted about 6 months after release. So I don't feel the need to jump in on the next gen when there are probably still top tier PS4 games I have yet to play and they will probably be available at decent prices.

I could honestly see myself sticking with PS4 and Switch until it's clear what each of the new consoles are going to offer.

Here's one thing that always bothered me:

Consoles are so damn price cheap in the US. Why don't you have more than one?

Probably for most people it comes down to not having the time to play all the games.

Why would I pay 400 bucks on an Xbox One X when I won't have time to play it?

Even if you take console exclusives out of the equation, there is so much content that appears on both platforms.
There's really no need to ever get both unless you are actually sitting at home saying "OK, I've played every single worthwhile hour of gaming on Platform A so I need to buy Platform B now".

Or the exclusives are just so good that you feel they are unmissable. That would be a good reason to have both, I guess.

Yeah, 400 bucks isn't much but I'd still rather spend it on other stuff if my gaming needs are already met.

I was recently considering the idea of getting the digital xbox and using only the subscription service. It would have been super cheap but the main thing that put me off was that I already don't have enough time so why spend 220 bucks on the console and then pay that monthly amount only to end up never using the thing because I have no time?

The price make no difference to me. The only thing that effects my choice is exclusives. Since I mainly game on PC the Xbox has nothing I cannot get on PC. Playstation however does and I don't like PS Now so as long as PS5 lauches with exclusives I want the price does not matter. As it stands I don't really have any reason to even consider an Xbox.

At this particular point in time, I honestly do not expect a price difference to be a major factor in staying with Sony or going back to MS. After the MS debacle of selling less power for significantly more money when this generation kicked off, I really doubt either company jacks up the price with either VR or other pack ins. And with the publicly released details, I'm guessing both consoles are similarly priced.

Now, if one company offers significantly more processing power, storage, or other tangible performance features, all for less, the same, or only a little more money than the other company's cost, that would be a huge factor at launch. And would probably sway me.
