Or perhaps those extra profits from PS Now subscriptions could go towards funding more & better PS5 exclusives...Too bad. Thats focus that could have gone to making future games better.
Theres a small small vocal minority who really cares about this.
Will I be able to play PS2, Ps3 and PS4 games directly from the disc and offline? Thank you.
You’re right in that regard, except if I recall that the PS4 can’t play the PS1 disc format, but that should easily be fixable if that’s the case I imagine? There is absolutely zero excuse why the PS4 couldn't at least run PS1 and PS2 games except for the fact that Sony wants to sell the emulated versions on the PS Store.
With is no surprise because as much people keeping console war about BC, they forget that the Xbox One use software emulation for Original Xbox and Xbox 360.
If you go to the Playstation 3 Store side, a bunch of PS1 games are there. Maybe Sony want to add that PS3 library to PS5.
Backwards compatibility with all past Sony consoles. Excluding Vita, because who cares.
M of money.Sure but why haven’t they made them available digitally on the PS4?
For the rest of us it’s called “buying your product”. Seriously, why have a digital future when you don’t even support your product with the next iteration?
Why not both though? Not many people have the old physical discs. Plus most people today I believe go for digital, so it wouldn't affect Sony much financially.I would LOVE backwards compatibility for PS2 and PS1 (have close to 700 older gen games in my collection), but I seriously doubt it when Sony seems happy to charge for digital downloads of said gen games (or a monthly sub to their PSnow service) and people are willing to pay for it.

I thought Sony gamers didn't care about BC? When MS tries to cram in old gen games, it's a waste of time. Move forward, not backwards.
Oh wait.

Damn Killzone in Vita was golden. Either way though bc in general doesn't move me to buy a console and I could care less about ps1, 2,3 bc in general.Backwards compatibility with all past Sony consoles. Excluding Vita, because who cares.
Preach!Damn Killzone in Vita was golden.
I don't think that will be enaugh to call it BC, there is that leak that said don't sell or throw your old Playstation Disc's.They will have a small number of PS1,2,3 games on the digital store. That will be it. I'm calling it.
There won't be any physical BC beyond PS4.

Its like 25% of 360 games and 4% of Xbox 1 games, but sure lets go with most.Damn seems Microsoft might be the only ones REALLY letting you have access to most of the Xbox library, I would’ve loved being able to at least put my old ps1-2 disc inside my ps5.
For something no one uses, backwards compatibility is getting a lot of attention with these next gen consoles.
They have a good amount of original PlayStation games digital on the store already. They can always go the Microsoft method and buy them and play on the PS5, or Insert a disk you own, and it downloads it.
Nobody knows in regards to PS2 and PS3.
PS4 you don’t play off of discs (it’s only a disc check), thus is would work as it does now on the PS4, insert, install, play.
I don't think theres any laws against it? I mean all of Sonys consoles except the PS4 have had this. Microsoft just choose to do BC like that. I mean obviously they can't sell BC games digitally without permission, but there's nothing stopping them from using an emulator that plays all the physical games.Would sony be allowed to just give out BC for all 4 generations? Wouldn't the same laws that stop microsoft from making everything BC, stop sony?
Also current gen systems cant read CD's. Would sony spend the money to add that back into ps5 just for BC?
How do PC digital storefronts tackle the licensing issue?I don't think theres any laws against it? I mean all of Sonys consoles except the PS4 have had this. Microsoft just choose to do BC like that.
