My biggest problem with it: a company I've supported and trusted in since I was in kindergarten lied to me and had no problem doing it

All while pimping out Pokemon to their new development teams to fondle for guaranteed money while their veterans work on their less than mediocre original title

Sometimes taking off "https://www.:" lets you direct link a url without the media formatting automatically changing it.

Edit: twitch.tv/sylzagoon2/clip/TolerantHyperCakeNotATK

Like that.

I am EXTREMELY reluctant to take the side of games journos and twitter checkmarks, especially when they are whining about "toxic gamers" and manbabies".

The completely over the top outrage over a Pokemon game just seems so ridiculous to me.

I love how "mediocre graphics" and "bad animations" is one of the main things that "wrong" with the game.

Don't even think about saying "meh, it looks like a standard Pokemon game to me, I'm sure most people will love it"!
YOU FUCKING APOLOGIST!

As if saying "well maybe there's a reason Game Freak did this or that" or saying "I am fine with it" is some kind of horrendous support of a dreadful regime.

How dare you defend Game Freak! Don't you know they cut some Pokemon and some moves and they game us bad animations and graphics!?

Fuckin hell.

Between this "outrage" and the insane levels of trolling because Death Stranding is *gasp* a bit different but also really good, I think I've seen it all this past week.

I think I'm turning SJW because I'm starting to think that videogame consumers are some of the most toxic most unforgiving and most entitled people on the planet.

Voting with your wallet is surely going to be better in the long run that throwing a tantrum online because the new Pokemon game has only 400 Pokemon instead of the 800 you wanted.

Graphics and animations seem fine to me, judging by the trailers, but I am sure some smug cunt will have a screenshot of some bad textures or something to "prove me wrong".

Nah, the graphics and animations seem pretty much in line with what I'd expect in a Pokemon game.

BUUUUUT EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AND MAINSTAY MOVES HAVE BEEN REMOVED! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Some of these people could suck the life out of anything with their shitty, non stop, over the top, negativity.

Yet, somehow, it's fuckin hilarious.

Noone would have complained about graphics or animations, were it not for Masuda's input.
We KNOW Pokemon was never a tchnical powerhouse.
EVERYONE was hyped at the reveal.

But then he tacidly admitted "not all" (read: aboout 60%) of our Pokemon would be returning to this first HD console iteration....because of high fidelity graphics an animations.

And then fidelity sucked and animations were the same as the 3DS games.
I could still live with that. I could get on board with each region having its own set of mons.

And then all the leaks came.

We would not have known about all the cuts they have made before launch.
GF deliberatly withheld that information, to be revealed when everyone had already bought their game.

It's scummy as fuck. If this was EA you would be cursing the designers unborn child right now.

It's more like 4 or 5 steps back actually...It's a shame.

I guess I'm part of the problem but I didn't expect anything but a pokmeon game but on switch. I only play one like every 3rd release so it feels more fresh.

Well, you're not part of a problem, first of all. If you like what you see, you just like it.
Don't let my negative opinion, or anyone else's hamper your enjoyment of the game.
I hope you have lots of fun with it.

I'm not sure what you guys want. Riots in the street?

Nah.

I'm pretty sure you are used to companies controversies.
But when it's pokemon, feels like they have all the defense force to cover up for their crappie attitude("its for children" being a prime example of burring the criticism). I know some people already said that, but what would be people reaction if EA lied this time? Or Ubisoft? Or Square Enix?

I honestly don't care about the cut Pokemon and I especially don't care about the cut moves (most were trash tier and should've been axed long ago imo) I even like how the game looks.

What I do care about, is that Game Freak lied (well and the lack of quality but let's ignore that for now). If they didn't use the obviously false excuse that they were redoing models and doing better animation and instead said "their are just to many Pokemon and we need to cut some for balancing purposes" I would be okay with that, but they decided to be shady about it and lie as if we're idiots and wouldn't see through it. Goddamn insulting.

I mean it's more I get it. If my favorite franchise was treated this way I'd be pretty pissed too.

2-3 of those steps weren't animated by Gamefreak.

They just stop time when you encounter them.

That would stand to reason, but arguably the biggest reason that there are so many age 18+ Pokémon fans is because they have nostalgia for the games from when they are kids. Game Freak's focus on always making them fun to play for kids, possibly as their first video game, but also having a lot of gameplay depth, allows them to create fans for life. Change that focus and you risk cutting off the entry point to the series and no longer gaining new players who go on to become lifelong fans.

What Pokemon was to the minds of children in the 90's it is not now, both of my nieces, 4 and 7, picked up and threw away Pokemon in a single month

I mean, I could counter your anecdote with hundreds of anecdotes of my own, but that would be pointless. Kids still love Pokémon, it turns out, but there is certainly a lot more stuff out there vying for their attention than there was in the 90s.

I have to admit that this is pretty amazing to see lol

When you notice the pokeballs froze mid toss :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Not jumping on the hate train, but it’s pretty crazy how often these games are a portal back to stuff you’d see literally twenty years ago. The NPCs rotating in circles to turn in Go is another thing.

You’d expect a lot more from a franchise that can regularly sell almost 20 million units in a year like it’s nothing. I’m surprised they haven’t made some hires or something.

Yup, all i hear my younger cousins talk about are fames like fortnite, cod and PvZ, but they chime in excitedly almost every time I mention the name pikachu.

Werent S/M mainly outsourced? I remember that being the case where they had a chinese development team come in (hence the original theories of it taking place in china before it was finally confirmed as Hawaii.)

On the flip side, if you ignore the core audience, you're losing half your income possibly more since these are the people who actually have (or will have) kids and they will influence what the younger generation will play.

I wonder how much of this is due to Japanese culture of life-time employement.

The shadowmap implementation quality in both LGPE and this game looks like pulled straight from NeHe OpenGL tutorials or something.

I doubt there are many parents out there who would try to prevent their kids from enjoying Pokémon simply because they somehow felt slighted by Game Freak over certain design decisions.

No clue there. I’m a casual with Pokémon, picking up a game now and then.

That would be fascinating, though.

Don't worry! That's still a thing.

They are just lining their pockets from the tens of millions of copies they sell every year and shitting out new entries out with the least amount of money possible.

If it is any indication of the fanbase, Game Freak not only lost a sale....bit two sales from the Double Dippers.

If 1 million diehard fans boycott the game, it is actially 2 million lost Unit Sales.

But even with children as an audience, even though the actual audience is largely adult, do children deserve a half cooked game? Should parents have to pay for something sloppily put together that the kid will drop for smoother running titles with the annoying freezing we're seeing illustrated in the thread? Should we support blind consumerism in children?

The argument that it's for kids doesn't excuse lies and lazy game development

If the game is fun, it's fun. Performance drops and technical issues have never stopped kids from enjoying games.

Didn't read the thread or most of the OP yet but just saying you shouldn't believe any pics that just show some wireframe. Anyone can fake them easily.

So, in who believe? Gamefreak who want your money or someone who can fake wireframe for the price of nothing?
